Domestic Cleaning for Strelley homes

Estate semis on a fortnightly rota, most of them empty through the day and entered from a key safe. Then a handful of listed cottages over the carriageway where what goes on the floors gets settled before the first visit.

The estate round is what most regular work here looks like: postwar semis and short terraces where the layout barely changes from one door to the next, visited fortnightly, usually with nobody in. What does vary is the kitchen, because these houses have been improved at different times by different owners, so one still has the original narrow galley with a back door opening straight into it and the next has been knocked through into the dining room. The village is a separate conversation entirely. A listed cottage has unsealed floors, waxed joinery and rooms that do not take a general purpose spray, so we settle what goes on what before the first visit rather than working it out with a bottle in hand.

Strelley sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. Regular domestic rounds across the estate, tenancy turnarounds on the rented stock arriving singly through the year, and carpet extraction booked more often than in most places we cover, because the ground floors are solid concrete. The village produces a shorter, slower list: cottage deep cleans, and commercial work in the offices fitted into the hall.

What we run into on Strelley domestic cleaning jobs

Where the back door opens into the kitchen, the first metre of floor takes everything off the concrete path outside, and on the estate that path runs the length of the garden to a gate or a garage court. Grit collects in the joint between the floor covering and the kick board, which a mop rides straight over without lifting. That gets a crevice tool before anything wet goes down. In the cottages the equivalent spot is the threshold stone at the front door, which never fully dries and carries a green film on the shaded side from October onwards.

How a Strelley domestic cleaning job actually runs

Regular work here is planned around parking before it is planned around anything else. The estate roads are narrow, many of the houses were built with a garage court behind rather than a driveway in front, and those courts filled up with parked vehicles years ago. Mid morning is the easy window on almost every street; the school run is the one to avoid, and a slot either side of it is what most of our fortnightly customers settle on. Strelley Lane and the lanes on the village side are the opposite problem, with no pavement in places and nowhere sensible to leave a vehicle other than on the property itself, so we ask where you would like us to pull in before the first visit rather than guessing on the morning. Access on the estate is usually a rear gate, and that matters because it is where the equipment comes through. If the gate is bolted from the inside, or the side path is where the bins live and there is no room to pass them, tell us at the booking and the round gets planned differently.

Who books it here

On the practical side: The estate half is easy: wide roads, verges, garage courts behind the terraces and off-street space at many properties. The village half is the opposite, with narrow lanes, no footway in places, and nowhere to park outside a cottage without blocking a gateway.

We run Strelley on the same round as Bilborough, Aspley and Wollaton.

What we check on every Strelley job

The staircase is the part of these houses that shows a rushed clean fastest. Most of the semis have a straight flight with a turn at the top and a narrow tread, so a vacuum head only reaches the middle of each step and a darker band builds along both edges where the pile meets the string. That comes up with a hand tool worked across the step rather than down it. The spindles tell the same story: dust settles on the upper face of each one and along the top edge of the string board, both of them above eye level going up and below it coming down, which is why nobody sees them. Upstairs, a lot of these ceilings still carry the textured finish that went on in the seventies and eighties. Every peak on it holds dust, it cannot be wiped wet without going patchy, and it wants a soft brush head with extraction instead.

What the domestic cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Bedrooms and living areas: Vacuuming throughout
  • Kitchen: Bin emptied and relined
  • Bedrooms and living areas: Beds made, or changed if clean linen is left out
  • Kitchen: Hob and splashback exterior

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full domestic cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What domestic cleaning costs in Strelley

Regular domestic cleaning, per visit, at a typical company rate. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£50 to £70

Typical per visit in Strelley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per visit
1 bed flat£40 to £50
2 bed£50 to £70
3 bed£60 to £80
4 bed£80 to £100
5 bed£100 to £120

A fortnightly clean of a two bedroom home works out around £1,560 to £1,820 a year. Weekly is roughly double.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Regular domestic, per hour£17 to £25
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Can you quote a village cottage from a description over the phone?

Not usually, and it is fairer to say so. A room count does not tell us what the floors are made of, whether the joinery is painted or waxed, or how much of the ground floor is original. Those three answers decide the products and most of the time on site. A quarter of an hour looking at the property is what stops the figure changing once we are stood in it.

We are both out all day. How does entry work on the estate?

A key safe in almost every case, and it is the arrangement that goes wrong least often. Fit it somewhere out of sight from the pavement rather than beside the front door, give us the code once, and tell us if it changes. Everyone here has a front and a back door, so say which one the safe belongs to, because that is the detail people forget.

Can you work around a dog that is left in the house?

Usually yes, and it is much better if we know beforehand rather than opening a back gate to find out. Tell us the dog's name, where it will be and whether it minds a vacuum, because that decides the order we work in and whether one room stays shut. If the dog is anxious with strangers, keeping it in the kitchen while the rest of the house is done is the arrangement that works best. Cats mostly ignore us, but open doors are how they get out.

What happens if we need to move a booked visit?

Message us as far ahead as you can and we will move it rather than skip it. A fortnightly slot that gets cancelled instead of rescheduled means the next visit has a month of work in it and the same time to do it, which suits nobody. Notice on the day itself is harder, because the round is already routed street by street. The honest answer then is that we will try, and we will say straight away if the only free slot that week falls on a different day.

Do you cover the whole of Strelley?

Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does domestic cleaning cost in Strelley?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the bathroom count more than the bedroom count, how often we come, and whether there are pets. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start domestic cleaning in Strelley?

Usually within a week for a regular rota, and we will tell you the day rather than a window. The estate half is easy: wide roads, verges, garage courts behind the terraces and off-street space at many properties, and we group Strelley with Bilborough, Aspley and Wollaton on the rota.
