Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Strelley homes
Solid concrete ground floors on the estate, quarry tile and brick in the cottages, and both hold moisture at the base of a pile long after the surface feels dry. Lower moisture, air moving, and a look at the underlay before quoting.
Carpet work is booked here more often than in most of the areas we cover, and the reason is underneath rather than on top. Estate houses have solid concrete ground floors, which are cold and non-porous, so a carpet laid over one holds moisture at the base of the pile long after the surface feels dry to the hand. Clean it with too much water and it stays damp for a day and smells for a week afterwards. The village adds rugs laid straight onto quarry tile and brick, which have the same problem and slightly worse, because the floor under them is cold and often a little damp to begin with.
Strelley sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly postwar city estate semis and short terraces along Strelley Road and Flamsteed Road, newer housing around Princess Boulevard, and a small group of listed brick and clay tile cottages in the village itself, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Strelley carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs
Underlay is usually where the honest answer sits. On a solid floor the underlay is the layer that keeps smells, and where a pet has had an accident it reached the underlay within seconds and has been there ever since. Cleaning the pile improves that for a fortnight and no longer. We lift a corner and look before quoting, because telling you the underlay is the problem is worth more than selling you a second visit that will not fix it either. Upholstery splits the same way: modern synthetic covers on the estate take a wet clean well, older wool and linen in the cottages frequently do not.
How a Strelley carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs
A machine clean is a set up before it is a clean, and where the van can stand decides most of the rest. Hoses run from the vehicle into the property, so on the estate we want the front of the house rather than the garage court behind it, and a car moved off the drive for the morning saves more time than anything else you could do. Where a hose has to cross a hall or a doorway it gets protected, along with the door edges, rather than trusting somebody to lift it over the threshold every trip. Water comes from your kitchen tap and the waste water leaves with us, so the tap needs to be reachable and not buried behind a full sink. Furniture is worth discussing at booking. We move what two people can move safely, sofas, chairs and light tables, and put protective blocks under the feet before anything goes back onto damp pile. Wardrobes, beds with drawers underneath and loaded bookcases stay put, and we clean up to them.
Who books it here
Regular domestic rounds across the estate, tenancy turnarounds on the rented stock arriving singly through the year, and carpet extraction booked more often than in most places we cover, because the ground floors are solid concrete. The village produces a shorter, slower list: cottage deep cleans, and commercial work in the offices fitted into the hall.
We run Strelley on the same round as Bilborough, Aspley and Wollaton.
What we check on every Strelley job
The dark line along the skirting is the detail that surprises people most, because it looks like every previous cleaner has missed the edges and it is not dirt in the ordinary sense. Air is being drawn through the carpet at the edge of the room, usually through the gap under a door or from a draught coming up out of a floor void, and the pile is acting as a filter for everything in that air. Fine soot from candles, cooking and traffic gets caught in the fibre tips and bonds there. A vacuum will never lift it, and a straightforward wet clean barely touches it, because the soiling is oily rather than loose. It comes out with a solvent based pre spray worked in by hand along the edge and left to dwell before extraction, and it takes about as long as the whole middle of the room. The same line shows under internal doors and across the front of a stair riser.
What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Carpets: Hot water extraction at pressure
- Also covered: Rugs, on site or collected
- Carpets: Pile groomed, protective tabs under furniture legs
- Also covered: Pet urine, with enzymatic pre-treatment and extra dwell time
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Strelley
Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£35 to £60
Typical one-off in Strelley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical one-off |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Single room | £35 to £60 |
| Hallway, stairs and landing | £45 to £85 |
| 2 bed flat, throughout | £75 to £175 |
| 3 bed house, throughout | £140 to £260 |
| 4 bed house, throughout | £200 to £350 |
Stairs are priced separately from rooms because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Upholstery, 3 seat sofa | £45 to £90 |
| Mattress clean | £30 to £60 |
| Pet urine treatment, per spot | £15 to £40 |
| Rug, per square metre | £8 to £20 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

How long will a carpet take to dry on a concrete floor?
Longer than the same carpet over floorboards, which is exactly why we work at lower moisture here. Allow four to six hours with windows open and air moving, rather than the two or three you might get in a house with a suspended timber floor. If the weather makes opening the windows pointless, say so when you book and we will bring air movers instead of leaving the drying to luck.
Can you clean a rug that sits on a quarry tiled floor?
Yes, and it comes off the floor to be done. A cold solid floor gives a rug nowhere to dry downward, so cleaning it where it lies is how you end up with a damp underside and a mark on the tiles that outlasts the reason for it. We lift it, clean it, dry it raised with air moving underneath, and put it back once the rug and the floor are both dry.
Why did a stain come back a day after the carpet was cleaned?
Because it soaked through to the backing at the time it happened, and as the carpet dries the moisture carries it back up the fibre. That is called wicking, and it is a drying problem rather than a failure of the clean. We reduce it by controlling how much moisture goes in and by weighting an absorbent pad over the spot while it dries. If it does reappear on you, tell us and we come back and lift it rather than debating whose fault it was.
Can a fabric sofa be wet cleaned?
Sometimes, and the label under the cushion decides it. A code meaning water based cleaning is safe takes a wet extraction; one meaning solvent only does not, and putting water through that cover is how you get shrinkage or a watermark you cannot remove. If the label has gone, we test on a hidden panel round the back or under a seat before anything else happens. Feather filled cushions need much longer to dry than foam and go back only when they are dry through.
Do you cover the whole of Strelley?
Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Strelley?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Strelley?
Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. The estate half is easy: wide roads, verges, garage courts behind the terraces and off-street space at many properties, and we group Strelley with Bilborough, Aspley and Wollaton on the rota.
