Oven Cleaning for Hucknall homes

Two cooker types split the town. The older streets near the centre run to a freestanding cooker wedged between base units in a narrow galley, and the newer plots toward the bypass to a single oven at chest height in a tall housing.

Which half of the town you are in decides what actually comes apart. In the older streets near the centre the appliance is usually a freestanding cooker standing on the floor between base units, one cavity with a separate grill compartment above it, and the useful part of that is it pulls forward, so the sides, the plinth line and the wall behind get cleaned rather than described. On the newer plots toward the bypass it is a built in single oven set at chest height in a tall housing, sometimes above a warming drawer. That one stays where it is, the door is worked at standing height rather than kneeling, and on most current models the inner panes lift out once the trim at the top of the door is released.

Hucknall sits in NG15, under Ashfield District Council. The housing here is mostly former mining town housing, terraces near the centre and postwar estates around them, with new development toward the bypass, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Hucknall oven cleaning jobs

The constraint here is where the parts go while they soak. A tall housing has no worktop beside it, so on the newer plots racks, trays and door glass go out to the van rather than onto a kitchen surface. In the older kitchens the only clear horizontal space is a single bowl sink with a half drainer, and that will not take a double oven's worth of shelves. We bring boards and a tray of our own, set them down on protected floor, and keep caustic solution off laminate worktops and vinyl wrapped doors entirely, because both mark and neither goes back.

How a Hucknall oven cleaning job actually runs

An oven has to be stone cold before anything is applied, which sets the timing more than our routing does. If the cooker was used the night before that is fine, but a Sunday roast finishing at six rules out an early Monday slot, and a range needs longer off than a built in oven. On the terraced streets near the centre the practical constraint is the distance between the van and the kitchen. The parts soak in a heated tank that stays in the van, so racks, trays and door glass are carried out to it and back, and where the door opens straight onto the pavement that is a short walk across a public footway with hot solution in a covered tray. We park as close as the street allows and we do not leave anything standing outside the door. On the newer plots there is a drive, which makes the same job simpler and quicker. Either way the kitchen is out of use for the length of the visit, and the appliance is usable as soon as we leave.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Good, and reachable on the same tram line that runs past our base.

We run Hucknall on the same round as Bulwell, Arnold and New Basford.

What we check on every Hucknall job

The things that decide whether an oven clean is a real one are all at the back and the bottom. The fan cover comes off on a few screws to reach the housing behind it, and on older freestanding cookers those screws are often seized or rounded, so they get penetrating oil and patience rather than force, and if one will not move we say so instead of chewing the head off. The door seal is cleaned around rather than soaked, because saturating it perishes the material and a perished seal is a part order. Under a freestanding cooker there is usually a shallow drip tray or a bare floor that has never been seen, and the two vertical gaps either side of it hold years of boil over. Gas cookers stay on their bayonet fitting: we pull one forward only as far as the flexible hose safely allows, and if it is restrained by a chain we leave the chain alone.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The oven itself: Door glass separated where the panes come out, so the space between them is cleaned
  • The oven itself: Rinsed repeatedly, so nothing smokes the first time you use it
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Metal mesh filters degreased in solution, which is the part holding most of the grease
  • How the job is left: Existing damage photographed and pointed out before we start, not after

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What oven cleaning costs in Hucknall

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in Hucknall. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Our oven sits at chest height in a tall unit. Does that change anything?

It changes the working position rather than the price. A tall housing means the door is opened at standing height and the cavity is at eye level, which is easier on us and no different for you. What it removes is the landing space beside the appliance, so the removable parts leave the kitchen while they soak and come back assembled. We agree that before we start rather than spreading trays across your worktop.

We have a canopy hood over the hob. Is that included with the oven?

No, it is priced as its own item, along with the hob and the microwave. A canopy is worth adding here because the metal mesh filters hold most of the grease and they degrease properly in solution rather than in a dishwasher. If yours recirculates rather than venting outside, there is a charcoal filter behind the mesh as well, and that is a replacement part. We will tell you which you have.

Can you do it while we are both out at work?

Yes, and it is the common arrangement on this round. We need access, a cold appliance, cold water at the tap and somewhere to plug in. Leave a note of anything already damaged, though we photograph the chipped enamel and the scratched glass ourselves before starting. The kitchen is left usable and the oven can be switched on the moment you get home, with no waiting period and no smell on the first heat.

The cooker has not been moved in years. Will you pull it out?

Where it is safe to, yes. An electric freestanding cooker on a plug or an isolator comes forward far enough to clean the sides, the wall and the floor. A gas one moves only as far as its flexible hose allows and stays connected to the bayonet, because disconnecting it is Gas Safe work. Built in ovens in a housing stay put. If the floor covering has bonded to the feet we stop rather than tearing vinyl.

Do you cover the whole of Hucknall?

Yes, all of NG15 and the surrounding streets, under Ashfield District Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in Hucknall?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in Hucknall?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Good, and reachable on the same tram line that runs past our base, and we group Hucknall with Bulwell, Arnold and New Basford on the rota.
