Oven Cleaning for Burton Joyce homes

Two cookers here. A built in double at eye level in a tall housing on the bungalow plots, with no worktop beside it to stand a hot tray on, and a freestanding cooker wedged into an old fireplace opening in the cottages.

Two cookers dominate this village and they are not the same job. The bungalows and the newer closes on the higher ground run to a built in single or double in a tall housing, the top oven at eye level, and no worktop next to it, so every hot rack and tray has to travel across the room to somewhere it can be put down. The cottages and larger houses near the church go the other way, a freestanding cooker or a range standing in an old fireplace opening with a couple of inches of wall each side and a solid floor underneath. One is a job about reach and protection, the other is a job about getting the appliance out at all.

Burton Joyce sits in NG14, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly older cottages and larger detached houses along the main road near the church, interwar and postwar semis on the streets behind them, and modern closes on the higher ground away from the water, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Burton Joyce oven cleaning jobs

The recess is the part worth naming. A cooker that has stood in a fireplace opening for years has a gap of an inch or two down each side, and that gap holds a grease and dust mixture nothing has ever reached. It is what you smell when the oven is turned up after a few weeks off, rather than the cavity itself. Getting at it means moving the appliance, and on the solid floors here a freestanding cooker has no rollers under it, so it walks rather than glides and it will score a tiled floor if it is dragged. We lift and pack rather than pull, and anything on a gas bayonet fitting stays where it is.

How a Burton Joyce oven cleaning job actually runs

Nothing about this job happens on a worktop. The removable parts, racks, side runners, trays, the grill pan and the fan cover, all come out and go into solution, which needs a protected run of floor near the cooker rather than a spare surface, and in the smaller kitchens along the older part of the village that is the floor we have just sheeted. Say in advance if the kitchen is the only route through the house, because for a couple of hours it is not usable, and in a bungalow there is no upstairs to send anybody to. We need a socket that works and a tap we can reach, and a door propped is normally the quickest way to move parts out to the van and back. Timing follows the road, the same as everything else out here. We aim to be unloaded and inside before the through traffic builds up, and the visit goes on a day we are already running east rather than becoming a trip of its own. If the cooker is being replaced inside the year, tell us, because the honest answer is sometimes to leave it alone.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Drives on most properties, so space is rarely the problem. Main Street narrows by the shops and parked cars leave one lane, so we come either side of the school run rather than through it. The riverside tracks want directions rather than a postcode.

We run Burton Joyce on the same round as Gedling, Netherfield and Carlton.

What we check on every Burton Joyce job

Door glass is where the difference shows, and the model decides what is possible. On most built in ovens in the newer housing the inner pane unclips at the top of the door and slides out, so the two faces nobody can otherwise reach get cleaned and the light through the door comes back. What is on them is not spatter. It is a fine brown film drawn up through the vent slots along the top of the door while the oven runs, laid down evenly, which is why the glass dulls all over rather than spotting. On some models the panes are bonded into the door and there is nothing to open, and we say so at the start rather than after taking a door apart. The seal is the other thing the door tells you. A rope seal gone hard and flat at one corner lets heat out at that point, and the soil pattern inside the cavity follows it.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The oven itself: Racks, side runners, trays and the grill pan lifted out and soaked, not wiped in place
  • The oven itself: Interior light lens, fascia, controls and door handle
  • The oven itself: Rinsed repeatedly, so nothing smokes the first time you use it
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Gas hobs: burner caps, crowns, pan supports and the tray underneath, all soaked separately

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What oven cleaning costs in Burton Joyce

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in Burton Joyce. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The oven is in a tall unit at eye level. Is that easier or harder?

Easier on the back and harder on everything else. There is no bending, but there is also no worktop beside it, so hot racks, trays and the door glass all need somewhere protected to go, and in a small kitchen that is the floor we have just covered. The doors on a built in double are heavy and hinged at the bottom, so they get supported rather than left hanging open.

Our cooker sits in the old fireplace opening. Can you clean behind it?

If it will come forward safely, yes, and the sides and the wall behind are usually the worst part of the whole job. An electric cooker on a plug comes out. A gas cooker on a bayonet fitting stays put, because disconnecting it is not our work, and we clean what can be reached from the front and the top instead. On a solid floor it wants lifting rather than dragging, which takes two of us.

Ours is a catalytic lined oven. Is there any point in a clean?

There is, but the liners themselves are left alone. Catalytic panels are designed to burn soil off at temperature, and caustic or scouring destroys them permanently, so they are cleaned by running the oven rather than by us. Everything the liners do not cover is still a full job: the door and its glass, the cavity floor, the back plate and the fan housing behind it, the racks, runners and trays, and the housing the appliance sits in.

Can we use it the same evening?

Yes. Everything is rinsed until the water comes off clean, so there is no waiting period and nothing smokes the first time it heats up. What takes the time is the soaking rather than any drying. In practice the kitchen is out of use for the length of the visit and not the rest of the day, which matters in these houses because the kitchen is often the only route to the back door and the garden.

Do you cover the whole of Burton Joyce?

Yes, all of NG14 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in Burton Joyce?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in Burton Joyce?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Drives on most properties, so space is rarely the problem, and we group Burton Joyce with Gedling, Netherfield and Carlton on the rota.
