Oven Cleaning for Netherfield homes
Much of the let stock came with the landlord's cooker, a freestanding gas model standing proud between two base units in a back kitchen of single skin brick. The grease is on the walls and the appliance sides as much as inside it.
These back kitchens were sculleries before anybody called them kitchens, so the cooker is almost always freestanding rather than built into a run of units. It stands in a gap between two base units with a bayonet fitting behind it, which means the sides of the appliance are exposed and carry as much baked splash as the cavity does, while the two unit end panels either side carry the rest of it. The second thing the room decides is where the work happens. A scullery worktop is about a stride long and already holds the kettle and the drainer, so racks, runners, the grill pan and a separated door glass need floor space rather than surface. We bring a stand and sheeting instead of borrowing the only clear metre you have.
Netherfield sits in NG4, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly railway terraces in long straight rows off Victoria Road, built for the Colwick yards, with postwar infill toward the flood plain and a high share of the stock privately let, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Netherfield oven cleaning jobs
Pull a freestanding cooker forward and the gap either side tells you how long it has been in. Splash runs off the hob edge, down the appliance flank and onto the floor, and it sets as a hard brown ledge along the bottom of both end panels and across the plinth line. That is a separate item, softened and lifted rather than scraped, because those end panels are faced chipboard and a blade takes the foil off along with the grease. The gas hose sets the limit on the rest. A bayonet fitting lets a cooker out only so far, so part of the wall behind stays out of reach, and we say which part rather than claim the lot.
How a Netherfield oven cleaning job actually runs
The van position decides the shape of an oven booking here more than the appliance does. Removable parts go out to a heated tank in the van, so racks, runners, trays and the grill pan are carried from the back kitchen, through the living room and out onto the footway, then back again at the end. On a street where cars are in both sides by late afternoon that is an argument for a morning slot, and it is why we ask which end of the row you are on when you book. Inside, the kitchen is the whole job. The floor gets covered because a freestanding cooker has to come forward onto it, and the run through the living room gets sheeted because the carry happens several times rather than once. Power and hot water both come off the kitchen, and if the yard tap has been isolated for the winter, which is normal on these terraces, say so and we plan around the sink instead. The back door onto the yard does the ventilation, which in a room this size makes a real difference to how the visit feels.
Who books it here
On the practical side: On-street only across the terraced streets, with cars both sides and not much room to pass. The back entries are shared and usually gated, so equipment comes in through the front door. Commercial jobs are easier, because the retail park has its own parking.
We run Netherfield on the same round as Carlton, Colwick and Gedling.
What we check on every Netherfield job
The grill compartment is the part of a landlord's freestanding cooker that gets left. On the gas models common in this stock the grill sits in a shallow cavity above or beside the main oven, it is used far more often than the oven itself, and the roof of that compartment carries a layer of carbon that flakes down onto whatever is under the grill. It is not reachable through the oven door and it is not touched by a wipe round the cavity, so it needs the pan and the wire runners out and its own dwell time. The runners are the second half of it. The compartment vents into a cold kitchen rather than into a flue, so condensation sits on bare wire and the runners rust, and rust is damage rather than soil. We clean them, show you the state they are in, and let you decide whether to ask the landlord for a replacement pair.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The oven itself: Cavity roof, floor, sides and back, treated and left to dwell rather than scoured
- How the job is left: Floor and worktop protected before anything is opened or applied
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Gas hobs: burner caps, crowns, pan supports and the tray underneath, all soaked separately
- The oven itself: Fan cover and back plate removed where the model allows, and the housing behind it degreased
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Netherfield
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Netherfield. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The cooker came with the house and belongs to the landlord. Should we still book it?
Usually yes, and before the check-out appointment rather than after it. The oven causes more deposit deductions than any other single item, and a landlord's appliance is judged on the same photographs as everything else in the property. Tell us it is not yours when you book, because we record chipped enamel, a crazed inner pane and a perished door seal before anything is applied, and that record protects you rather than us.
There is no extractor over the hob, only a window. Does that change the job?
It changes where the grease is. With no hood and no filter catching it, the fat that would have been trapped lands on the wall behind the hob and the paintwork above, and on solid brick that runs cold it stays there rather than drying off. So a hob clean in a kitchen like this sensibly takes in the tiles and the wall behind as well, and we quote that alongside the appliance instead of leaving the room looking half finished.
Does the oven get taken away, or is the tank work done here?
The oven never moves. The tank sits in the van and takes only the parts that come out, which on these cookers is the racks, the runners, the trays, the grill pan, and the burner caps and pan supports off a gas hob. The cavity, the door and the fascia are all cleaned in your kitchen by hand. That is why the van wants to be within a short carry of your front door rather than round the corner.
It is a let and the tenant is still living there. Who needs to be in?
Somebody with access, and it does not have to be the person who booked. Landlords book these regularly with the tenant at home or with a key safe code passed on. What matters more is the record: we photograph the condition before anything is applied and send it to whoever booked the work, because a crazed inner pane or a perished seal that already existed is much easier to prove now than at the end of a tenancy.
Do you cover the whole of Netherfield?
Yes, all of NG4 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Netherfield?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Netherfield?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. On-street only across the terraced streets, with cars both sides and not much room to pass, and we group Netherfield with Carlton, Colwick and Gedling on the rota.
