Oven Cleaning for Colwick homes

Small back kitchens with a single worktop run, so there is nowhere to stand a soaking tray. The bungalows off the cul-de-sacs went the other way, a built under double at knee height that is cleaned from the floor rather than at waist level.

Kitchens here are small and they are all in the same place, a single run along the back wall with the cooker set into the middle of it and the garden door at one end. That layout decides how the job runs more than the appliance does. There is no island and no second run, so there is nowhere to stand a soaking tray, and the racks, runners and grill pan go straight out to the heated tank in the van instead of taking up the only worktop you have. The short terraces on the older streets mostly still keep a freestanding cooker with a base unit either side of it. The bungalows on the cul-de-sacs went the other way when they were refitted, a built under double at knee height with the grill in the upper cavity.

Colwick sits in NG4, under Gedling Borough Council. The housing here is mostly two and three bedroom semis and short terraces along Vale Road and Mile End Road, bungalows on the cul-de-sacs off them, and a little newer infill nearer the loop road, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Colwick oven cleaning jobs

The flanks of a freestanding cooker hold more grease than the cavity does, and nobody sees them until it comes out. Fat sprays sideways off a pan, lands on the cooker's own side panel and on the end of the cabinet beside it, and bakes on again every time the oven runs. Getting one out here is rarely simple either. Several of these kitchens have sheet vinyl laid straight over the original solid floor, that floor has settled toward the back door, and the cooker is standing on packers under two of its feet. They go back on the same packers, or the door stops shutting square against the seal.

How a Colwick oven cleaning job actually runs

An oven clean is a booked slot rather than a stop on a round, and three practical things want settling before it. The oven has to be cold, which sounds obvious and catches people out on a day somebody has had it on for lunch. There has to be a working socket for the tank pump and a space for the van near the door, because racks and trays travel out to the tank and back, and on the older village streets with no drive that walk can be the length of two houses. And somebody has to be in for the duration, since the door and the fan cover come off and the kitchen is not usable while they are. Bookings cluster in the weeks before Christmas here as they do everywhere, but the second pattern is local to these cul-de-sacs. Bungalows change hands and get the oven done between the sale completing and the furniture arriving, and that window is a single named day with nothing either side of it. Give us the completion date and we will hold the slot rather than guess at it.

Who books it here

On the practical side: The estate roads are numbered rather than named, so a satnav will happily send a van to the wrong Private Road. Give us the unit number and the road number together. In the village, on-street parking is easy except on racecourse fixture days.

We run Colwick on the same round as Netherfield, Sneinton and Carlton.

What we check on every Colwick job

Look up rather than down in one of these kitchens. The extractor over the hob is very often a recirculating hood rather than a ducted one, because the only outside wall in the room already carries the window and the garden door and a duct has nowhere sensible to go. A recirculating hood pushes air back into the room through a charcoal filter, that filter is a replacement part rather than a washable one, and in most of the houses we have opened it has never been changed once. What it produces is a soft yellow film on the ceiling directly above the hob and along the top of the wall unit beside it, spreading out in a fan from the canopy. The metal mesh filter underneath comes out and goes in the tank with everything else. The charcoal one gets reported with its size taken off it, because it is cheap and it is the part doing nothing.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The oven itself: Interior light lens, fascia, controls and door handle
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Gas hobs: burner caps, crowns, pan supports and the tray underneath, all soaked separately
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Extractor canopy inside and out, and the grease trap where there is one
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Charcoal filters checked and reported, since those are replaced rather than cleaned

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What oven cleaning costs in Colwick

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in Colwick. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Oven Cleaningin Colwick

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

The kitchen is too narrow to stand a cooker in the middle of. Where do you actually work?

On the floor, and in the van. Floor and worktop are covered before anything is opened, the removable parts go out to the heated tank so they soak while the cavity dwells, and the cavity itself is worked from a kneeling position rather than off a step. What we do ask for is the back door kept usable, because that is the route the racks travel and it keeps solution out of your hall.

Ours is a gas cooker on a bayonet fitting. Can you pull it out?

No. Taking a gas cooker off its bayonet is not our work and it is not something to improvise, so we clean it where it stands, which still covers the cavity, the door, the racks, the hob and the fascia. If the sides and the gaps either side matter to you, have it moved and reconnected by whoever services it, then book us for the same day.

Can you do the hood and the hob at the same visit?

Yes, and it is the sensible way to buy it, because the tank is already hot and the mesh filters soak while the cavity dwells. Each appliance is still its own item rather than folded into the oven price. What we cannot do is replace a charcoal filter on the day, since it has to match the hood. We take the model and the size off it and tell you what to order.

How long will the kitchen be out of use?

For a single built in oven, most of the morning. The floor is covered, the door comes apart, the back plate comes off and the removable parts are out in the tank, so the room is a working area rather than a kitchen while that runs. You can use the kettle, and that is about it. On a bungalow double or a hob and hood in the same booking, plan on the kitchen being ours until the early afternoon.

Do you cover the whole of Colwick?

Yes, all of NG4 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in Colwick?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in Colwick?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. The estate roads are numbered rather than named, so a satnav will happily send a van to the wrong Private Road, and we group Colwick with Netherfield, Sneinton and Carlton on the rota.
