Oven Cleaning for Attenborough homes

In the cottages the cooker stands in the opening the old range came out of, so it comes forward only as far as the brickwork allows. The larger houses near the church run heat storage cookers, off and stone cold before anybody starts.

Three kitchens here, three different jobs. In the cottages the cooker is freestanding and stands in the recess the original range came out of, so it will only come forward as far as the opening allows and the painted brick either side has been taking spitting fat for years. The interwar and postwar semis along Attenborough Lane run a built under double at worktop height with a separate hob above it, comfortable to work on and awkward to see into. The larger period houses near the church are where the heat storage cookers are, and one of those is a day with the appliance off and stone cold, which in a village kitchen usually means giving up the room's only real heat source for that day.

Attenborough sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly older cottages and larger period houses in the conservation area around the church, interwar and postwar semis along Attenborough Lane and Barratt Lane, and a little later infill toward the water, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Attenborough oven cleaning jobs

Where the racks and trays are going to stand is the first thing settled, because a cottage kitchen often has one short run of worktop with the sink in the middle of it. Everything ends up on the floor, and that floor is frequently old tile or stone laid without a seal on it. A caustic drip on an unsealed floor of that kind bleaches a pale patch that never comes back, so sheeting goes down first and it goes down wider than looks necessary. The other recurring find is the underside of the shelf or mantel above the cooker recess, which nobody has ever looked at and which sits directly in the rising grease.

How an Attenborough oven cleaning job actually runs

This is one of the few visits where the vehicle has to stay put for the whole booking, because the dip tank in it is doing half the work and the racks, runners and trays go out to it and come back. On these lanes that means an early weekday start before the reserve traffic builds, and it means agreeing where the van stands before the day rather than on it. Inside, three things decide how it runs. The appliance has to be cold, so a heat storage cooker goes off the night before and anything conventional a couple of hours ahead. We need a socket for the light and the vacuum, and in these houses that is often the only spare one in the room. And the room has to be ventilated, which in a village kitchen in February is not the same thing as opening the back door, so we work with the extractor running and the internal door shut so the rest of the house keeps its heat. Where the cooker is the room's heating, we would sooner book it for a milder week than the middle of winter.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Lanes here are narrow and the reserve car park fills at weekends, so visits are booked for the morning. Most houses have a drive; a few older cottages have neither drive nor side gate, so hoses and machines come in through the front door.

We run Attenborough on the same round as Chilwell, Beeston and Toton.

What we check on every Attenborough job

Extractors here are the part ignored longest, and the reason is that most of them are not vented. Where a cooker sits in a chimney recess there is frequently no duct to the outside at all, so the hood recirculates through a charcoal filter, and a charcoal filter is a consumable rather than something to be washed. We lift them out and show you what is there, because a saturated one has stopped doing anything and is simply holding grease above the hob. Behind it the metal mesh is usually loaded solid, and that is a wash rather than a replacement. The other thing worth naming is the canopy underside where it meets a chimney breast. Grease runs backwards along it toward the brickwork and gathers at the joint nobody looks at, and on a painted brick reveal it soaks in rather than sitting on the surface waiting to be wiped off.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • How the job is left: Usable straight away, with no waiting period and no smell on first heat
  • The oven itself: Cavity roof, floor, sides and back, treated and left to dwell rather than scoured
  • The oven itself: Fan cover and back plate removed where the model allows, and the housing behind it degreased
  • The oven itself: Door glass separated where the panes come out, so the space between them is cleaned

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Attenborough property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What oven cleaning costs in Attenborough

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in Attenborough. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Our cooker sits in the old fireplace opening. Can it still be pulled out?

Usually far enough to reach the sides and the gap, and not always as far as we would like, because the opening is narrower than the rest of the kitchen and there is often a hearth slab to lift it over. We pull it as far as is safe, clean the sides, the floor beneath and the brickwork we can reach, and tell you what is behind if we cannot get there. A cooker on a bayonet gas fitting stays connected.

The kitchen is cold. Does that change anything about the clean?

It changes the drying rather than the cleaning. The products work on contact time rather than on heat, so the treatment is unaffected, but rinsing leaves water on cold enamel and in a cold room it sits there. We rinse repeatedly and then run the oven briefly to drive the last of it off, which also proves nothing smokes on first heat. On a heat storage cooker there is no quick way to do that, which is part of why it takes so much longer.

The extractor is not vented outside. What can be done about it?

The mesh filters are degreased in solution and go back, and that part is worth having on a schedule rather than once. The charcoal filter is not cleanable, so it gets checked and reported and you replace it with the part for your model. What we cannot do is turn a recirculating hood into a vented one, which is a fitter's job, and in a conservation area a new vent through an old wall is a conversation before it is a purchase.

Can the hob and the microwave be done at the same visit?

Yes, and it takes less time than booking them separately because everything soaks together while the cavity is dwelling. Each is still its own item on the quote. Say at booking whether the hob is gas, ceramic or induction, because gas comes apart and soaks while the other two are bladed flat and polished. If it is a freestanding range with a gas top, give us the width as well, since a wide set of pan supports fills a tank on its own.

Do you cover the whole of Attenborough?

Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in Attenborough?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in Attenborough?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Lanes here are narrow and the reserve car park fills at weekends, so visits are booked for the morning, and we group Attenborough with Chilwell, Beeston and Toton on the rota.
