Oven Cleaning for Chilwell homes
Two kitchen layouts, two jobs. The newer closes run a single oven built under the worktop with an induction top over it, in a room with nowhere to stand a soaking rack. The extended semis take a range.
The appliance mix on this side of NG9 is younger than most of our round, because so many of these kitchens were fitted in the last fifteen years, and the age of the cooker decides what may be done to it. Pyrolytic cavities and catalytic side liners turn up constantly on the newer closes, and both are engineered coatings that a caustic product ruins for good, so the first task on arrival is working out which surface is which and saying so out loud. Induction above them rather than gas, which means burnt sugar and boil over instead of burner caps and a drip tray. The extended semis are the other half of the round, with a wide range cooker sitting in a knocked through kitchen, two cavities, a grill and seven or eight racks.
Chilwell sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly interwar and postwar semis, with newer estates around Toton Lane and the tram park and ride, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Chilwell oven cleaning jobs
A built under oven gives you no shelf at door height. Open an eye level appliance and the dropped door is a table; open one set below a worktop and everything you take out has to go somewhere else. So a folding bench comes in with us and the floor is covered before anything is applied, which matters because the floor on these estates is usually vinyl plank or engineered board running into the dining end with no threshold to stop a spill. The other regular find is the drawer under the cavity. It reads as storage, and on plenty of these models it is a warming drawer with a vent at the back catching drips since handover.
How a Chilwell oven cleaning job actually runs
Access is the easy part of an oven booking here and timing is not. Almost every plot has a drive, so the van stands a few steps from the front door and the heated tank the racks, runners, trays and grill pan go into sits right there, which shortens the job and keeps caustic wet parts off a public pavement. What does have to be negotiated is when the appliance is cold. These are households that cook in the evening, so a cooker used at seven the night before is comfortable to work in by nine the next morning, and one used at lunchtime is not. Ventilation is the second thing. The professional products are low odour rather than odourless, and a ground floor where the kitchen shares its air with the sofa at the other end of the room is not a place to shut the door and walk away, so we want the garden door open and the extractor running through the dwell period. December is the pressure point. Two or three weeks of notice rather than a few days, because everybody looks properly inside that door in the same fortnight.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Drives on most properties. The tram park and ride makes the area easy to reach.
We run Chilwell on the same round as Beeston, Stapleford and Clifton.
What we check on every Chilwell job
On an appliance whose pyrolytic cycle gets run regularly, the cavity is genuinely clean and the door is not, and that mismatch is the commonest thing we find on the newer closes. Ash from the cycle collects in the channel the seal sits in and along the bottom lip of the frame, and the brown film between the panes is untouched, because the cycle heats the cavity and not the gap inside a door. Racks left in through a cycle come out permanently dulled, which is discolouration rather than soil and does not clean off, whatever anyone applies to it. Under the hob the bead of silicone sealing an induction top into a laminate worktop is where water has been getting in, and a swollen edge on the board underneath is damage rather than dirt. Both of those are photographed and pointed out before a bottle is opened, because the alternative is being told afterwards that we caused them.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The oven itself: Interior light lens, fascia, controls and door handle
- How the job is left: Freestanding cookers pulled out where safe, so the sides and the gap are done
- The oven itself: Rinsed repeatedly, so nothing smokes the first time you use it
- How the job is left: The housing the oven sits in, and the plinth below it
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Chilwell
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Chilwell. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
There is a bead of sealant round the edge of the induction top. Does that matter?
It matters for how the hob is cleaned. That bead keeps water out of the chipboard the worktop is made from, and once it has failed the board underneath swells and lifts along the edge. So nothing is flooded, the blade is held flat and worked dry, and the panel dried rather than left wet. If the edge has already gone soft we photograph it and point it out before starting, because that is damage to the worktop rather than something sitting on the hob.
We are out all day and cook in the evening. When can you actually come?
A morning, because the appliance has to be stone cold before anything goes into it. An oven used at seven the night before is comfortable to work in by nine, and one used at lunchtime is not, so an afternoon slot on a cooking day is the awkward one rather than the convenient one. Once it is finished and rinsed through there is no standing time at all, so a morning visit leaves you cooking in it the same evening.
Can the oven be pulled out of its housing?
A built under oven slides forward on its own runners once the fixing screws in the frame are out, and that is worth doing, because the sides of the cavity, the floor of the housing and the gap between the oven and the unit next to it are where the runs of fat end up. What does not happen is disconnection. The supply cable is short and the socket is usually in the adjoining cupboard, and unplugging or rewiring an appliance is an electrician's job rather than a cleaner's.
We have a range in the extended kitchen. Is that one visit?
One visit, but a long one, and it wants a morning start rather than an afternoon. A wide range has two cavities of different sizes, a separate grill compartment, and seven or eight racks and trays that all need tank time, and the dwell is what sets the length rather than the scrubbing. The hood above it is quoted as its own item, because a canopy over a range is a bigger piece of metalwork than the recirculating unit on a standard kitchen.
Do you cover the whole of Chilwell?
Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Chilwell?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Chilwell?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Drives on most properties, and we group Chilwell with Beeston, Stapleford and Clifton on the rota.
