Oven Cleaning for Toton homes
Kitchens here were refitted one at a time, and the cooker usually moved to an internal wall in the process. That means a recirculating hood with a charcoal cartridge nobody has changed, sitting above an oven booked once a decade.
Three generations of cooker turn up on these estates, and which one you have depends on when the kitchen was last done rather than when the house was built. An untouched kitchen still has a freestanding cooker slotted between units with a gap either side. A refit from the eighties or nineties gave an eye level double in a tall housing with a separate hob over a cupboard. Anything done in the last few years is a single oven built under the worktop with an induction top above it. Each of the three needs a different amount of pulling out, has a different door assembly, and gives a different answer on whether the inner pane lifts free, so it is worth saying which you have when you book.
Toton sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly 1950s and 1960s semis and short terraces on the estates off Stapleford Lane and Swiney Way, with later cul de sac development and newer closes filling in between them, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Toton oven cleaning jobs
The extractor above it is the recurring find. When a kitchen here is replanned the cooker frequently ends up against an internal wall, where no duct can reach an outside face, so the hood fitted over it recirculates through a charcoal cartridge and puts the air back into the room. Charcoal cannot be washed. Once it is saturated the hood simply moves warm grease laden air around the kitchen instead of removing it, and that lands on the ceiling above the hob and on the underside of the wall cupboards either side. We report the filter type and its condition rather than degreasing a cartridge that needed replacing two years ago.
How a Toton oven cleaning job actually runs
An oven booking needs somewhere to put things down, and on these estates that depends entirely on whether the back of the house has been opened up. Where the kitchen still occupies the original room, the worktop run is short, the table is in the room next door, and there is nowhere that a rack, a grill pan and a loose pane of door glass can all sit safely at the same time. Where a rear extension has taken the kitchen into a dining area, there is a table to work off and the job runs faster for it. Say which you have and we bring more protective sheeting rather than improvising with a tea towel. The kitchen goes out of use for the length of the visit, so it is worth not planning lunch around it, and anything stored on the hob or on top of a slot in cooker wants moving before we arrive. An earlier slot helps as well, because the removable parts soak while the cavity dwells, and a late start pushes the reassembly into the middle of the school run.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Most houses have a drive or hardstanding at the front, so parking is rarely a problem. The park and ride fills the roads nearest the terminus on weekday mornings, and a skip on a narrow close during building work is worth flagging when you book.
We run Toton on the same round as Chilwell, Attenborough and Stapleford.
What we check on every Toton job
The ceiling tells you where the cooker used to be. In houses where the kitchen has been replanned there is nearly always a rectangle above the old cooker position that took years of grease and was then painted over once, and under a low winter sun it reads slightly yellower and slightly glossier than the ceiling around it. Above the current hob the same film is still building, and under a recirculating hood it builds faster, because the air comes back into the room warm and carries on rising. That film is not what an oven clean is booked for and it is worth pointing out anyway, because emulsion holding polymerised fat does not wash clean. It wants degreasing and then repainting rather than scrubbing, and scrubbing lifts the paint off in patches, which is how a ceiling ends up needing doing whether you wanted it or not.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Microwave interior, roof plate, turntable and door seal
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Metal mesh filters degreased in solution, which is the part holding most of the grease
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Ceramic and induction: burnt sugar and boil-over taken off with a blade held flat, then polished
- The oven itself: Rinsed repeatedly, so nothing smokes the first time you use it
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Toton
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Toton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Our cooker is freestanding and slots between two units. Will you pull it out?
Where it is safe to, yes, and it is usually the part that has never been done. A slot in cooker leaves a narrow gap each side that has collected everything spilled off the hob for years. An electric model on a plug or an isolator comes forward easily. A gas cooker on a bayonet fitting stays where it is, because taking one off its connection is gas work rather than cleaning, so we do the sides as far as the gap allows.
The hood over the hob does not vent anywhere. Is it still worth cleaning?
Yes, and the metal mesh is the part that matters. That grille traps the grease long before the charcoal behind it ever sees any, and it degreases properly in solution while your oven parts are soaking. What we cannot do is restore the cartridge itself, which is a consumable with a working life measured in months rather than years. We note the model and the size so you can order the right replacement instead of guessing at a shop counter.
The oven has not been touched since we moved in. Is one visit enough?
Usually, and where it is not we say so at the start rather than at the end. A cavity carrying several years of carbon needs a second application and a longer dwell, which is time rather than a different product, and that is the honest reason a neglected oven takes longer than a maintained one. What a single visit will not do is take out rust where the enamel has already chipped through, or bring back a crazed inner pane. Both of those get photographed before anything is applied.
Should we book anything else in at the same time?
If the hob, the hood and the microwave are all due, one visit beats three by a long way, because the removable parts soak together while the cavity dwells and the floor only gets sheeted once. In a house already on a regular fortnightly round, the sensible pattern is to hang the oven off one of those visits, so the kitchen goes out of use once instead of twice and we can plan the order of the day around it rather than around the traffic.
Do you cover the whole of Toton?
Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Toton?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Toton?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Most houses have a drive or hardstanding at the front, so parking is rarely a problem, and we group Toton with Chilwell, Attenborough and Stapleford on the rota.
