Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Toton homes
Floodplain mud off the Erewash path and mown clippings off the verges rather than city grit. The winder treads at the bottom of a postwar staircase take everybody's pivot and go long before the rest of the flight.
Two things bring us out for carpets here. The first is the ground. Toton Fields and the Erewash path are flat, low and wet for a good part of the year, so what walks back in is floodplain mud rather than city grit, and through the summer it is grass seed and mown clippings off the verges, which stain a light carpet rather than sitting on top of it. The second is the shape of the staircase. A postwar estate semi has a straight flight with three or four winder treads turning at the bottom, and everybody pivots on the same two of them. Those treads soil and wear at a rate the rest of the flight never approaches, and they are why a whole staircase reads as tired.
Toton sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly 1950s and 1960s semis and short terraces on the estates off Stapleford Lane and Swiney Way, with later cul de sac development and newer closes filling in between them, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Toton carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs
Winders cannot be done with a wand. Each tread is a wedge, wide at the wall and narrow at the newel, so the tool has to be worked from two directions for an even pass and the riser beneath it done separately by hand. That is slow, and it is the reason stairs are priced apart from rooms. The other thing worth knowing about these houses is that fitted carpet often runs straight over the original softwood boards on a thin underlay, and boards of that age have gaps between them. Over-wetting goes through rather than staying in the pile, so stairs and landings get lower moisture and more dry passes.
How a Toton carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs
The practical shape of a carpet job here is settled at the front door. A machine mounted in the van means a hose and a vacuum line run in through the hall, so the door stands open for the length of the work and the vehicle has to sit within reach of it rather than wherever there happens to be space on the close. Where that cannot be arranged, the work runs off a portable machine brought inside, which does the same job more slowly and needs saying at the booking stage rather than discovering on the day. Rooms want clearing of small items before we arrive. Sofas and beds we move and put back, but a floor covered in boxes turns into an hour of carrying. Drying is the part people plan badly. Warmth and moving air do it, not heat on its own, so windows come open and the heating goes on low, and stairs stay walkable in socks rather than shoes until the pile has dried out.
Who books it here
Regular fortnightly cleans in owner-occupied family houses make up the base, and post-construction work is the second string: rear extensions, garages taken into the house, and full kitchen and bathroom replacements. Deep cleans follow those, usually booked once the building work is finished and the household notices the rest of the house went untouched for months.
We run Toton on the same round as Chilwell, Attenborough and Stapleford.
What we check on every Toton job
The dark line along the skirting is the observation worth having. It shows up on carpet edges in rooms that are otherwise clean, most often against an outside wall or across a doorway where the door is kept shut, and people take it for a shadow or for something the vacuum keeps missing. It is filtration soiling. Air is drawn through the gap at the edge of the carpet, out of a draughty floor void or under a closed door, and the pile does the filtering, so fine airborne soot from candles, cooking and traffic deposits itself in a narrow band. It answers to a solvent based pre spray and patient hand work along the edge, not to another pass with the wand, and it will return unless the draught itself is dealt with. We treat it as separate work and we say where it is likely to come back.
What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Carpets: Neutralising rinse, so no sticky detergent residue is left to attract soil
- Upholstery: Cleaned panel by panel so no drying edge shows
- Also covered: Pet urine, with enzymatic pre-treatment and extra dwell time
- Carpets: Hot water extraction at pressure
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Toton property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Toton
Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£35 to £60
Typical one-off in Toton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical one-off |

| Single room | £35 to £60 |
| Hallway, stairs and landing | £45 to £85 |
| 2 bed flat, throughout | £75 to £175 |
| 3 bed house, throughout | £140 to £260 |
| 4 bed house, throughout | £200 to £350 |
Stairs are priced separately from rooms because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |

| Upholstery, 3 seat sofa | £45 to £90 |
| Mattress clean | £30 to £60 |
| Pet urine treatment, per spot | £15 to £40 |
| Rug, per square metre | £8 to £20 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

The bottom three stairs look far worse than the rest of the flight. Can that be evened out?
Improved, usually, and evened out, not always. Those treads carry the pivot of everyone in the house, so they hold more soil and they have also lost more pile height. Extraction lifts the bonded soil and brings the colour back a long way, which is what most people are actually seeing. Where the fibre itself has been walked flat and abraded, cleaning cannot rebuild it, and we will say which of the two you have before we start.
Grass cuttings have marked a pale carpet. Is that permanent?
Usually not, if it is dealt with before it has been walked on for weeks. Chlorophyll staining responds to the right pre-spray and dwell time rather than to scrubbing, and scrubbing a green mark on a light carpet is how it becomes a fuzzy patch instead of a stain. What does set is the combination of clippings and mud pressed into wool over a whole summer, so the sooner after the mowing season the better.
How long before we can walk on it?
Walkable in a few hours in socks, and properly dry within the day if the room is warm and the air is moving. Ventilation matters more than temperature, so open windows beat turning the heating up. Keep shoes off until it has dried, because a damp pile picks soil off a shoe sole far faster than a dry one, and put foil or plastic under furniture feet if anything has to go back early, so stained wood does not mark the fibre.
Can you clean a fabric three piece suite while you are here?
Usually, and it is worth doing in the same visit while the equipment is already in the house. What decides it is the manufacturer's label under the cushion, which says whether the fabric takes water, solvent only or neither. We check that first and test a hidden section before anything else, because some older loose covers shrink and some dyes move. Feather filled cushions dry more slowly than foam, so those go somewhere warm and airy rather than straight back on the frame.
Do you cover the whole of Toton?
Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Toton?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Toton?
Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. Most houses have a drive or hardstanding at the front, so parking is rarely a problem, and we group Toton with Chilwell, Attenborough and Stapleford on the rota.
