Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Long Eaton homes

A town that made sofas has a lot of them, and plenty are trade built or reupholstered with no cleaning code label sewn in. Fibre and colourfast testing decides the method here rather than a symbol on a tag, and feather filled cushions dry slowly.

Upholstery takes up more of the round in this town than it does elsewhere, and the pieces are not the modern kind. A great many suites in this town were made locally, bought as trade stock or reupholstered by somebody who did it for a living, and what they have in common is that nothing has a cleaning code label sewn into a seam. Without that label the fabric has to be identified and tested rather than looked up in a chart. Older covers are often a wool or viscose mix over a webbed frame, and viscose in particular marks with plain water and stays marked long after it has dried. Feather filled cushions then add a drying problem on top of a cleaning one.

Long Eaton sits in NG10, under Erewash Borough Council. The housing here is mostly long rows of late Victorian terraces put up for the lace and furniture workforce, interwar and postwar semis on the edges, and apartments carved out of former mill floors near the centre, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Long Eaton carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs

The deck under the cushions holds the real soil, and on a traditionally built piece it is not covered in the same cloth as the outside. It is usually a plain calico or a cheap lining over the webbing, which soils faster, wets faster and dries far slower than the show cover does. Too much moisture there goes through into the webbing and the frame, and a damp hardwood frame in a closed room is how a clean sofa ends up smelling worse than a dirty one. So the cushions come off, the deck is done separately at lower moisture, and air is moved through the piece before anything goes back on.

How a Long Eaton carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs

The machine stays in the van and the hoses come to the work, which on a street with no front garden means a hose running across the pavement and the front door propped open while we clean. On a cold day that is a real consideration in a house with one through room, so we plan the order to keep the door open for as short a time as possible and get it shut between rooms. Downstairs floors here are a mix. Some are solid, some are suspended timber over a ventilated void, and the second kind loses heat and gains draught, which is what governs how long a carpet takes to dry rather than the machine settings. We need a socket, a place to draw water and somewhere to empty. Furniture is the other half of the planning: tell us in advance what is heavy, what is fragile and what has been in one place for years, because a piece that has never moved is often holding the floor together underneath it.

Who books it here

Regular domestic cleaning in the terraces and semis is the base, much of it while the house is empty because the London and Derby trains take people out early. Tenancy turnarounds run steadily through the year rather than in a summer block. Office and small premises contracts come from the town centre and the trade units.

We run Long Eaton on the same round as Sandiacre, Toton and Attenborough.

What we check on every Long Eaton job

The mark we are asked about most is a narrow dark line following the skirting, running under the doors and tracing the edge of a fitted carpet, and it is almost never a spill. Air is being drawn through the pile at exactly those points, up from under a suspended timber floor, past a chimney that was blocked but not sealed, or through the gap beneath a door, and the carpet works as the filter. Fine airborne soot lodges in the very tips of the fibres in a band no wider than a finger. That is why the edge of a room can look filthier than the middle everybody walks across. It responds to a solvent pre-spray and patience rather than to more water, it does not always come out completely, and it returns unless the draught causing it is addressed. Which of those two you are dealing with gets said before we start.

What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Upholstery: Low moisture, because the foam underneath holds water for days
  • Also covered: Mattresses, HEPA vacuumed with low-moisture spot treatment
  • Carpets: Thorough dry vacuum first
  • Carpets: Hot water extraction at pressure

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Long Eaton

Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£35 to £60

2 bed flat, throughout£75 to £175

Pet urine treatment, per spot£15 to £40

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. There is no cleaning label anywhere on our sofa. Can you still clean it?

Yes, but the method gets decided on the piece rather than off a chart. We identify the fibre by burn and feel on a hidden thread, then test for colourfastness on an area nobody sees, using the wettest solution we intend to use. That tells us whether it takes water at all, and a fair number of older covers do not. Where a fabric fails the test we say so and clean it dry rather than risk a permanent water mark.

It was reupholstered years ago. Does that change anything?

It usually helps and it does need mentioning. A reupholstered piece has a known cover rather than an unknown factory one, and the person who did it may have kept a note of the cloth. It also means the frame, the webbing and often the foam are of mixed ages, so the inside dries at a different rate from the outside. We work to lower moisture and longer drying on those, and we ask before touching anything showing loose braid or old adhesive.

How long before we can use the room again?

You can walk on it carefully in clean socks fairly soon, but a wool carpet in a cold room over a ventilated floor takes considerably longer to be properly dry than a synthetic one in a warm room. Heating on and a little air movement makes the difference. What matters more than the exact time is keeping outdoor shoes off until it is dry, because a damp pile picks up soil far faster than a dry one and undoes a good part of the work.

Will you move the furniture?

We move what can be moved safely by the people on site, which covers most sofas, chairs and small tables. Beds with drawers, pianos, full bookcases, aquariums and anything with a plug in the back stay where they are and we clean up to them. Once a piece goes back, protective tabs or foil go under the feet until the carpet is dry, because a damp pile under an untreated wooden foot will take a stain out of the wood that does not come back out.

Do you cover the whole of Long Eaton?

Yes, all of NG10 and the surrounding streets, under Erewash Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Long Eaton?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Long Eaton?

Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. Town centre premises are reached off the back service lanes rather than the shop front, and loading restrictions set the timing there, and we group Long Eaton with Sandiacre, Toton and Attenborough on the rota.
