Domestic Cleaning for Toton homes

Postwar estate semis on the long roads off Stapleford Lane, most of them cleaned with nobody home. Houses modernised a room at a time, so a bathroom fitted last year and a kitchen that has never moved sit under one roof.

Most of the regular work here is in houses built between the early fifties and the mid sixties, on the long roads and closes off Stapleford Lane and Swiney Way. They have been improved in pieces rather than all at once, and that is the thing which actually shapes a visit: a bathroom refitted last year sitting next to a kitchen that still has its original layout, or the other way round. Modern surfaces want a different cloth and a different order of work from painted timber and old enamel, and in one house you get both. Almost all of these visits happen with nobody in, because the tram terminus at the end of Toton Lane takes a good part of the street into the city before nine.

Toton sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. Regular fortnightly cleans in owner-occupied family houses make up the base, and post-construction work is the second string: rear extensions, garages taken into the house, and full kitchen and bathroom replacements. Deep cleans follow those, usually booked once the building work is finished and the household notices the rest of the house went untouched for months.

What we run into on Toton domestic cleaning jobs

Front gardens on these estates have mostly been turned over to parking, usually block paving or gravel laid onto what was lawn. Both shed grit at the door, and gravel migrates into the hall in a way block paving does not. The wide grass verge outside is the other one. It gets cut through the summer and the clippings blow to the kerb, so for two or three days after a cut everything walked in is green and slightly damp, which marks a pale carpet rather than simply soiling it. Hard floors get a full vacuum before any water goes near them.

How a Toton domestic cleaning job actually runs

Regular domestic work in Toton is arranged around an empty house. The park and ride at the end of Toton Lane pulls a large share of these streets onto a tram before nine, and people are not back until late afternoon at the earliest, so most visits run on a key held by us or on a keysafe by the door. Both are fine. What matters is that the arrangement is written down and that one person is named for anything needing a decision on the day. Parking is the second practical item. The closes here are narrow, drives are usually full even when the house is empty, and the verge is not somewhere a van can sit for two hours without blocking a neighbour, so we agree a spot at the first visit rather than each week. Bin day is worth a thought as well, because collections here run on a fortnightly cycle for some of the bins, and a clean timed just before a collection empties the house rather than filling a bin that then stands for a fortnight.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Most houses have a drive or hardstanding at the front, so parking is rarely a problem. The park and ride fills the roads nearest the terminus on weekday mornings, and a skip on a narrow close during building work is worth flagging when you book.

We run Toton on the same round as Chilwell, Attenborough and Stapleford.

What we check on every Toton job

A great many of these houses have a conservatory or a glazed sunroom across the back, added long after the original build, and it behaves nothing like the rest of the house. The roof is usually polycarbonate, so it grows a green film on the outside and drops dust through the sheet joints on the inside, and the frame corners hold cobwebs that come back within weeks whatever you do to them. The floor is where it shows. A conservatory of this kind sits a step down from the kitchen, and the step traps grit coming in from the garden door, so the first stretch of that floor soils far faster than the rest of the room. We treat it as its own area with its own products rather than as a continuation of the kitchen, because glass, plastic frames and a cold floor want different cloths from painted timber and carpet.

What the domestic cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Kitchen: Bin emptied and relined
  • Kitchen: Microwave interior
  • Kitchen: Appliance fronts
  • Kitchen: Hob and splashback exterior

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full domestic cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Toton property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What domestic cleaning costs in Toton

Regular domestic cleaning, per visit, at a typical company rate. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

ExtraTypical cost
Regular domestic, per hour£17 to £25
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Half the house has been modernised and half has not. Does that make it harder to quote?

It makes the description matter more than the room count. An old enamel bath, painted timber and original tiling take a different approach from a new shower enclosure and gloss units, and a house with both needs the products and the order of work planned rather than assumed. Tell us which rooms have been redone and roughly when, and the quote holds without a visit in most cases.

We have gravel parking at the front. Can anything be done about the grit indoors?

A proper barrier mat inside the door, long enough for two full steps rather than one, does most of the work, and a second mat outside helps more than people expect. Beyond that it is a matter of vacuuming hard floors before mopping them, every time, because a mop on loose gravel grit grinds it into the joins between boards instead of lifting it out.

Nobody is in during the day. How do you handle keys?

Either a key held by us or a keysafe fitted by the door, and in both cases the key is stored without an address attached to it and logged against a job rather than a person's name. Staff working in your home are DBS checked. If you change a lock or a keysafe code, tell us before the visit rather than after, because a cleaner standing on the drive with no way in still uses the slot even though nothing has been cleaned.

Our drive is always full and the road is narrow. Where does the van go?

On the road at a point we agree with you at the first visit, clear of the dropped kerbs either side and off the grass verge. Verges on these estates stay soft for most of the year, and a van parked on one leaves ruts that the council rather than you has to put right. If the drive happens to be free on the day, send a message, because it saves carrying equipment further than it needs to go and gets more of the hour into the house.

Do you cover the whole of Toton?

Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does domestic cleaning cost in Toton?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the bathroom count more than the bedroom count, how often we come, and whether there are pets. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start domestic cleaning in Toton?

Usually within a week for a regular rota, and we will tell you the day rather than a window. Most houses have a drive or hardstanding at the front, so parking is rarely a problem, and we group Toton with Chilwell, Attenborough and Stapleford on the rota.
