Oven Cleaning for Clifton homes
Freestanding slot-in cookers rather than built-under ovens in most of these kitchens, which means two cavities and a grill pan rather than one. There is nowhere to stand a hot rack down, so we bring our own bench and floor protection.
The cooker here is more often freestanding than built in, and that decides the job before anybody opens a door. A slot-in cooker sits between two runs of units with a narrow gap either side, is fed by a bayonet hose if it runs on gas, and carries a top compartment that doubles as a grill. That is two cavities, two doors, two sets of runners and a grill pan, so it takes the time a double oven takes rather than a single. It also puts the sides of the appliance and the ends of the worktop next to it into the job, because that is where the run of soil actually sits. Where a later fitted kitchen went in, the same house has a built under single oven and a separate hob, and that is a shorter visit.
Clifton sits in NG11, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly one of the largest postwar estates in the country, mostly semis and short terraces, plus student housing near the NTU campus, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Clifton oven cleaning jobs
The gap either side of a slot-in cooker is the find. It is a couple of centimetres wide, it has never been reachable, and what is in it is not grease in the ordinary sense. It is a dry wedge of crumbs, spilled rice and dust bound together by fat that has run down the side and set hard, and it comes out in pieces rather than wiping away. The worktop edge above it usually carries a scorched brown lip where a hot pan has been lifted across it. Drawing the cooker forward is what reaches all of that, which is why we ask about the gas connection at the point you book rather than on the doorstep.
How a Clifton oven cleaning job actually runs
An oven booked on its own is two hours or so spent in one room, and the practical question here is where the parts go while they soak. Racks, runners, trays, a grill pan and two door panes all need laying flat somewhere that is not your worktop or your floor, and there is rarely a spare surface in a kitchen this size. We bring a folding bench and sheeting, set it up where you tell us, and carry the parts out to the tank in the van rather than filling your sink. That needs a clear path from the door to the kerb for the length of the visit, so bins and bikes in the way are worth moving before we arrive. The appliance has to be stone cold, which in practice means unused since the night before, so a morning slot suits a household that cooks in the evening. Say at booking whether the hob, the extractor or the microwave are going on the same visit. Dwell time on one runs while another is being stripped, so three appliances together take nothing like three separate bookings.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Good throughout, with wide roads and generally available parking.
We run Clifton on the same round as Ruddington, West Bridgford and Chilwell.
What we check on every Clifton job
The part nobody ever sees is the space between the door panes, and on most of these cookers it is reachable. Fat vapour finds a way past the seal at the top of the door, condenses on the inside of the outer pane and dries into a brown mist, which makes the light in the oven look dim rather than the glass look dirty. On most models the inner pane lifts out once the top trim comes off, so both faces are cleaned flat and go back in the correct order. Where the panes are bonded or the trim is riveted we leave them alone, because forcing a bonded unit cracks it. The other repeat find is the fan cover at the back of the cavity. Behind it the housing holds a felt of burnt crumb that has been recirculating with every use, and that, rather than the cavity walls, is what makes an oven smell as it heats up.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- How the job is left: Floor and worktop protected before anything is opened or applied
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Gas hobs: burner caps, crowns, pan supports and the tray underneath, all soaked separately
- The oven itself: Fan cover and back plate removed where the model allows, and the housing behind it degreased
- How the job is left: Existing damage photographed and pointed out before we start, not after
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Clifton
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Clifton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Ours is a freestanding gas cooker. Will you pull it out?
Only as far as the flexible hose safely allows, which is normally enough to reach the sides and the floor beneath. We do not take a cooker off its bayonet fitting, because reconnecting a gas appliance is Gas Safe work and not ours. If yours has stood in the same place for years and the hose is short, say so when you book and we will work the gap from the front with a thin tool rather than dragging the appliance across your flooring.
Does the top compartment count as a second oven?
Yes, and it should be booked that way. A slot-in cooker with a grill compartment above the main oven has two cavities, two doors, two sets of runners and a separate grill pan, so the time and the price follow a double rather than a single. The top one is usually the worse of the two, because a grill throws fat straight upwards onto a roof nobody ever looks at.
Can the oven and the extractor be done in the same visit?
Yes, and it is the sensible way to buy it. Each appliance is priced as its own item, but the time overlaps heavily: the cavity is dwelling while the extractor filters are in solution and the hob supports are soaking, so three items together are nothing like three visits. The metal mesh filters hold most of the grease in any kitchen. If yours are a charcoal type they get replaced rather than cleaned, and we will tell you the size to order.
Will the kitchen be usable while you work?
The sink and the worktop stay yours if you tell us where to set up. We work off our own bench with the floor sheeted, and parts soak in the van rather than in your washing up bowl. What you cannot do is use the oven or the hob until we have finished and rinsed through, and children and pets need keeping out of the room while caustic product is sitting in the cavity. Everything is reassembled before we leave and the oven can be used straight away.
Do you cover the whole of Clifton?
Yes, all of NG11 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Clifton?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Clifton?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Good throughout, with wide roads and generally available parking, and we group Clifton with Ruddington, West Bridgford and Chilwell on the rota.
