Oven Cleaning for Trowell homes
Cooking here is compressed into the weekend, so an oven roasts hard for two days and then stands cold for five. What that builds is carbon on the cavity roof and the inside of the door glass rather than an even film across the base.
Nobody here cooks much midweek. Both adults drive out of the village and the cooking lands on Saturday and Sunday, which produces a particular oven rather than simply a dirty one: two days of high heat roasting and then five days cold. Carbon builds on the cavity roof and on the inside face of the door glass, where fat has spat upward and been baked again the following weekend, while the floor under a roasting tin stays comparatively clean. It also settles when the job is easiest to do. The appliance is out of use from Monday to Thursday anyway, so a weekday visit costs the household nothing, where a Saturday booking takes the cooker away on the one day of the week it is actually wanted.
Trowell sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly older brick houses and a few cottages along the main road through the village, postwar semis on the estates set behind it, and later closes edging out toward the open fields, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Trowell oven cleaning jobs
In the older brick houses along the road the kitchen is a rear extension with a solid floor, and a freestanding cooker stands in a gap between units with its feet settled into whatever is under it. Fat that has run down the side has not sat on vinyl. It has soaked into a porous tile and gone dark, and it will not come up with a cloth. Drawing the cooker out is the only way to reach any of it, and it wants lifting rather than dragging, because a settled foot scores the floor it has been standing on. The strip of tile that comes into view then needs dwell time and a poultice.
How a Trowell oven cleaning job actually runs
Two things want settling before the date. The first is what the appliance actually is, because the model decides the job more than the state of it does: whether the inner door panes come out, whether the back plate unclips, whether the cooker is gas sitting on a bayonet fitting, which we do not move. A photograph of the fascia and the badge at booking saves a conversation on the doorstep. The second is heat. The oven has to be cold when we arrive, so it should not be used that morning, and where one of the larger houses toward the fields runs a heat storage cooker it goes off the day before rather than the hour before, which is a decision about the hot water as much as the cooking. Beyond that, the practical local point is the second oven. A good number of these houses kept the old cooker when the kitchen was refitted and stood it in the garage for Christmas and overflow, and it has had years of use with no attention at all. If you want both, say so at booking, because it roughly doubles the soaking rather than adding a few minutes to it.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Off street space at nearly every house, so parking is rarely the problem. The main road is: it carries through traffic between Nottingham and Ilkeston with nowhere sensible to stand a van, so tell us if your only frontage is on it.
We run Trowell on the same round as Stapleford, Kimberley and Nuthall.
What we check on every Trowell job
The hood over the cooker is where the weekend cooking actually collects, and in these rear extension kitchens it is usually a recirculating one. There is no outside wall behind it to duct through, so the air goes up through a metal mesh, through a charcoal cassette and straight back into the room. The mesh lifts out and degreases in solution, which is the part holding most of it, and the tray it sits in is often worse than the filter above it. The cassette behind is not a cleaning item at all: charcoal gets replaced rather than washed, and on most of the hoods we open it is still the original, which means the smell of every Sunday has been going back into the kitchen for years. We take the mesh out, do the canopy inside and out, and tell you what the cassette is rather than pretending it came up.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The oven itself: Door glass separated where the panes come out, so the space between them is cleaned
- The oven itself: Interior light lens, fascia, controls and door handle
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Ceramic and induction: burnt sugar and boil-over taken off with a blade held flat, then polished
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Charcoal filters checked and reported, since those are replaced rather than cleaned
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Trowell
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Trowell. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
We only really use the oven at weekends. Is once a year still right?
Roasting is what builds the carbon, not the number of days the appliance is switched on, so a household that roasts every Sunday puts more into an oven than one that boils and grills all week. Once a year suits most of them. What changes the arithmetic is leaving it: past a couple of years the layer thickens enough to want a second application and a longer soak, so the job gets bigger for having waited.
Our kitchen has almost no spare worktop. Where do the racks go?
Out to the van. The removable parts, meaning racks, runners, trays, the grill pan and any burner caps and pan supports, soak in a heated tank outside, which is why a proper oven clean does not need your kitchen laid out with hot metal. The floor and the run of worktop beside the cooker are covered before anything is opened, and the cavity is done by hand where it stands. Nothing caustic gets stood on a surface you prepare food on.
Ours is a cast iron heat storage cooker. How much notice does it need?
A day at least. It holds warmth long after it is switched off and it cannot be worked on warm, because the products flash off the surface and nothing gets the dwell time it needs. So it goes off the evening before, and if it also runs your hot water or a radiator circuit you want to have thought about that beforehand rather than afterwards. The clean is longer than a conventional oven as well, and anything inside the burner or the flue is an engineer's job and not ours.
Can you do the cooker in the garage on the same visit?
Yes, and it is worth asking, because a second appliance shares the soak rather than doubling the visit. Tell us at booking though. A cooker that has stood in a garage for years is usually the bigger job of the two: there is often surface rust on the enamel, which is damage to the metal rather than something sitting on it, and if it is unplugged and standing on an uneven floor we want it stable before a door comes apart on it.
Do you cover the whole of Trowell?
Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Trowell?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Trowell?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Off street space at nearly every house, so parking is rarely the problem, and we group Trowell with Stapleford, Kimberley and Nuthall on the rota.
