Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Trowell homes

Mud off the lane comes in on tyres, dries on the drive and walks in as fine grit. The bigger constraint is drying: an exposed house in winter will not get a carpet dry overnight, so we work these on a spring cycle.

The question here is less what is in the carpet than when it can be dealt with. These are exposed houses with a lot of outside wall, and from November the combination of low indoor temperature and damp air outside means a carpet that has been extracted takes far longer to dry than the same carpet in a mid terrace in town. Wet carpet left overnight in a cold room is how a job that should improve a floor ends up smelling of one. So we work rural properties on a spring and early autumn cycle by preference, we take more water back out on the machine than a summer job needs, and if it has to be winter we ask for the heating on and we bring air movers rather than trusting the room.

Trowell sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly older brick houses and a few cottages along the main road through the village, postwar semis on the estates set behind it, and later closes edging out toward the open fields, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Trowell carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs

Underlay is the part that decides how a job here looks a week later. Fine soil does not stop at the backing; on a route that has been walked for years it has gone through into the underlay, and on a hall laid over a concrete slab there is nowhere for moisture to go except back up. Extract the pile and leave the base wet and the dirt in that reservoir wicks up as it dries, so a floor that looked right on the day shows a grey line down the middle of the run by the weekend. The answer is more recovery passes and forced drying, not more detergent.

How a Trowell carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs

This is the service where the van's position decides the job. A machine works off hose runs, and the length that will reach a back bedroom from a drive is not the same as the length that will reach it from a verge further down the road. So we ask before the booking whether the drive is clear, whether there is a side gate we can run a hose through rather than trailing it across a hall, and whether anyone else needs to move a car that morning. Inside, we need a socket that is not on the same circuit as everything else in the kitchen, and access to a tap and a drain for filling and dumping. Room clearance is the other half of it. Small items, lamps, bins and anything under a bed want moving beforehand; we will shift a sofa and slide a bed, but a full wardrobe stays where it is and we clean up to it. And the room has to be out of use afterwards, so a hall or a stair is best done on a day when nobody needs to be in and out of the house.

Who books it here

Fortnightly domestic rounds carry the week, in houses where both adults drive out of the village to work and the housework has been compressed into Saturday. Deep cleans cluster in April, once the wet half of the year has finished putting soil through the house. Window cleaning is the third string and the demand for it is openly seasonal.

We run Trowell on the same round as Stapleford, Kimberley and Nuthall.

What we check on every Trowell job

Stairs are where the wear and the dirt are, and they are not in the same place. The wear sits on the nosing, where the pile has been crushed flat and buffed shiny by the same part of every foot, and no amount of cleaning stands that pile back up. The dirt sits in the gully at the back of each tread, in the crease where the tread meets the riser, and it is invisible from the top of the flight because you are looking down at the nosings. That crease holds years of grit that a vacuum head cannot reach into, so it wants a hand tool worked along it before any water goes near, then extraction with the wand angled into the joint rather than dragged across the face of the tread. The riser above each gully takes the splash off the same feet and needs doing by hand, since a stair tool passed down the flight never touches it.

What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Also covered: Rugs, on site or collected
  • Upholstery: Cleaned panel by panel so no drying edge shows
  • Upholstery: Care label checked for the W, S, WS or X code before anything is applied
  • Carpets: Hot water extraction at pressure

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Trowell property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Trowell

Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£35 to £60

Typical one-off in Trowell. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical one-off
Minimum call-out£60 to £90
Single room£35 to £60
Hallway, stairs and landing£45 to £85
2 bed flat, throughout£75 to £175
3 bed house, throughout£140 to £260
4 bed house, throughout£200 to £350

Stairs are priced separately from rooms because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Upholstery, 3 seat sofa£45 to £90
Mattress clean£30 to £60
Pet urine treatment, per spot£15 to £40
Rug, per square metre£8 to £20

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Carpet & Upholstery Cleaningin Trowell

We vacuum twice a week and the hall carpet still looks grey. Why?

Because the material causing it is below the level a domestic vacuum works at. Fine soil drops through the pile to the backing, and a beater bar lifts the surface but does not pull anything out of the base. The grey you see is light scattering off fibre that has been scuffed by that grit, not dirt sitting on top of it. Extraction changes it, and afterwards the carpet holds its colour longer because there is less abrasive left in there to keep cutting.

How long before it looks dirty again?

Longer than you expect if the drying is done properly, shorter than you hope if it is not. Two things drive re-soiling: detergent left behind, which is sticky and grabs the next lot of grit, and a carpet walked on before it is fully dry. We rinse rather than leave residue and we ask for the room to stay off for several hours, longer in winter when nothing in a house out here dries quickly. Done properly the difference is months rather than weeks.

Can the stairs be cleaned, and how soon can we use them?

They can, and they usually show the biggest change of anything in the house. The practical issue is that a staircase is the one thing nobody can avoid walking on. We work top to bottom, take as much water back out as the machine will give, and ask that they are left alone for a few hours. If the house has to stay in use, tell us and we will do the stairs last so they get the longest clear run before anyone is up and down them.

The label on our sofa says dry clean only. Does that rule out cleaning it?

It rules out wet extraction, not cleaning. Upholstery carries a code on the label, and the ones that say solvent only mean water will shrink, ring or bleed the fabric, so those are cleaned with a low moisture or solvent method instead. We check the label and test an unseen area before anything else, whatever it says, because labels get replaced along with covers. If we do not think a fabric will survive the method, we will say so rather than find out on the front of the cushion.

Do you cover the whole of Trowell?

Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Trowell?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Trowell?

Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. Off street space at nearly every house, so parking is rarely the problem, and we group Trowell with Stapleford, Kimberley and Nuthall on the rota.
