Oven Cleaning for Dunkirk homes

Two cookers in one kitchen is ordinary here, because a house licensed for six has to be able to feed six. Both are freestanding, both stand in a gap between base units, and neither of them belongs to anybody in particular.

The cooker here follows the licence rather than the household. A property let to six has to provide cooking facilities for six, so a fair number of these kitchens carry two freestanding cookers standing side by side, or one cooker and a second small oven parked on the worktop, where a family house would have a single built-in appliance. Freestanding is the word that changes the job. The cooker is not boxed into a tall housing on runners, it sits in a gap between base units with both enamelled sides exposed to the room, and it can be walked out onto the floor. The flats in the newer schemes on the boulevard frontages are the opposite problem, a compact single fan oven under a ceramic hob in a galley barely wide enough to swing the door open.

Dunkirk sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly a compact grid of late Victorian and Edwardian terraces let room by room, with purpose-built student blocks and infill apartment schemes squeezed along the boulevard frontages, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Dunkirk oven cleaning jobs

The gap either side of a freestanding cooker is where most of this job actually lives. It is about the width of a hand, and everything that comes off a pan between the hob and the sink goes down it: oil, rice, sauce, the water off a lifted lid. It lands on the floor beneath the appliance and on the bare enamel sides, and since nobody ever moves the cooker, the heat coming through those side panels bakes it hard. The facing edges of the units either side carry the same brown film. None of it is inside the cavity, which is why it survives every wipe out the oven has ever had.

How a Dunkirk oven cleaning job actually runs

Bookings for this land in two shapes here. One is the landlord clearing a snag before a licensing visit or a check in, where the cooker has been flagged and needs to be right by a named date. The other is a household that has decided between themselves to split the cost, which is a conversation we stay out of, though we do need one person to be the contact and one person to let us in. Either way the appliance has to be cold and unused that morning, so tell whoever is on a night shift that the kitchen is out of action until early afternoon. There is a boundary worth stating before anybody quotes. Where a freestanding cooker is gas, it is connected by a bayonet fitting and a flexible hose, and moving it off that connection is work for a Gas Safe engineer rather than a cleaner. We will not do it. We clean the sides and the floor as far as the appliance will safely come forward on its own feet, and we say what has been left behind rather than pretending the gap does not exist.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Resident permit bays, filled through the day by people who have driven to the hospital and walked the rest. Tell us where a van can legally sit before the first visit, because working from the kerb of a dual carriageway is not an option.

We run Dunkirk on the same round as Lenton, The Park Estate and Beeston.

What we check on every Dunkirk job

The drawer under a freestanding cooker is worth opening before anyone quotes. It is either a warming drawer or plain storage, and in a shared kitchen it becomes the cupboard for the trays nobody washes, so it holds a stack of them under a layer of crumbs and old fat. Above it, the bottom edge of the oven door has a return channel, and every time the door is dropped open the fat that has run down the inside collects along that lip and then drips into the drawer below. The drawer and its runners come out, get soaked with the racks and go back in cleaned, and the door channel is done separately with the door off its catch position. Existing damage gets photographed before we start, not afterwards, because rust in the cavity floor and a chip out of the enamel are common on an appliance this age and neither of them is dirt.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Extractor canopy inside and out, and the grease trap where there is one
  • How the job is left: Usable straight away, with no waiting period and no smell on first heat
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Ceramic and induction: burnt sugar and boil-over taken off with a blade held flat, then polished
  • How the job is left: Everything reassembled in the right order, including the glass, and the door checked for closure

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What oven cleaning costs in Dunkirk

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in Dunkirk. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

There are two cookers in the kitchen. Do we need both done?

Each appliance is its own item, so you can have one or both, but look at them before deciding. In most shared houses one gets used for almost everything and the other holds the pans, which means the two are in completely different states. We will look at both when we arrive and tell you honestly if the second one needs an hour rather than a full strip down.

Where do you soak the racks in a kitchen this small?

In our own tank, not in your sink. These galley kitchens have one drainer and six people who need to reach it, so nothing of ours goes in there. We lay protection on the floor, work off that, and keep the walkway between the door and the sink clear the whole time. The trays and runners come out to the tank and go back in at the end.

The cooker is gas. Will you pull it out to do behind it?

No, and nobody working without a Gas Safe registration should. A freestanding gas cooker sits on a bayonet connection with a flexible hose, and disconnecting or dragging it is not a cleaning task. We move it as far forward as the hose safely allows, which on most installations is enough to reach the sides and the floor. If you want it out completely, book an engineer and we will work around whatever they leave us.

The tenants say the oven was already like that. Does that matter to you?

It matters to you rather than to us, and photographs are how it gets settled. We record the state of the appliance before anything is applied and again at the end, including anything that is damage rather than soil. Rust, chipped enamel, a cracked inner pane and a perished door seal all stay exactly as they are, and they will look no better afterwards because they were never dirt in the first place.

Do you cover the whole of Dunkirk?

Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in Dunkirk?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in Dunkirk?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Resident permit bays, filled through the day by people who have driven to the hospital and walked the rest, and we group Dunkirk with Lenton, The Park Estate and Beeston on the rota.
