Oven Cleaning for Forest Fields homes
A licensed house cooks on one landlord cooker and six bedroom microwaves, so the booking here is rarely just an oven. The cooker is a plug in freestanding electric, and the worktop either side of it is committed to fridges.
Most oven bookings on these streets come from a licensed house rather than from a family, and that changes what is actually on the job sheet. One cooker in the shared kitchen does the real cooking for five or six unrelated people, none of whom bought it, so it goes years between proper cleans and the carbon layer thickens to the point where it needs two applications rather than one. Alongside it sit the bedroom microwaves. A room let with a kettle, a microwave and a small fridge standing on the chest of drawers is a kitchen in miniature, and the microwave in it gets used harder than the one downstairs. Each is priced as its own item, so tell us how many rooms there are when you ask, not just how many ovens.
Forest Fields sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly dense Victorian and Edwardian terraces on a tight grid off Berridge Road and Bentinck Road, a large share of them now shared houses or converted into flats, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Forest Fields oven cleaning jobs
The wall behind the fridges is the surprise on these jobs. A shared kitchen holds three or four of them in a line where a family would have one, all pushed back against the plaster, and the grilles at the back run warm and pull dust and airborne fat into a mat that sets hard. Easing one out to reach the side of the cooker shows a clean rectangle of wall and a grey field around it. We take that off the grille and the plaster while the cavity is dwelling, because that is dead time anyway and nobody else is ever going to move them.
How a Forest Fields oven cleaning job actually runs
The kit comes in on foot. There is no drive anywhere on this grid and the on street spaces are full from the middle of the morning, so the tank, the trays and the sheeting are carried from wherever the van has managed to stop, which can be a street away. That is why the booking asks which street you are on rather than just a postcode. Inside, the constraint is floor space rather than time. Soaking parts need somewhere flat and protected to stand, and in a shared kitchen the worktop is already taken up with fridges, kettles and other people's food, so we sheet the hall floor inside the front door and work from there. That door opens straight onto the pavement, so it stays closed rather than propped. Scheduling follows the house rather than the calendar. Room lets here turn over on whatever date a room fell empty, so the useful slot is a void week when the kitchen is quiet and at least one room is free. Goose Fair fortnight fills these streets from mid morning, so we put oven jobs early in the day that week or move them to the next.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Parking is on-street with cars nose to tail both sides, and the shared back entries are often the easier way in with equipment. Goose Fair week closes the Forest and fills the streets around it, so we shift those bookings rather than arriving late.
We run Forest Fields on the same round as Hyson Green, New Basford and Radford.
What we check on every Forest Fields job
The grill pan tells you how a shared kitchen has been used. In a family house it is a grill pan. Here it has been the only baking tray anybody could find for years, so it carries burnt sugar from one person, oil from another and foil welded into the corners by somebody who thought foil would save cleaning it. It soaks separately and comes out of the tank a different colour. The fan cover is the other one. Where a single cooker feeds several people back to back, the fan runs hot for hours at a stretch, so the fat reaching the housing behind the back plate has baked rather than settled and wants solution and dwell time rather than effort. We take the plate off where the model allows, degrease the housing, put it back with the screws in the same holes, and then rinse the cavity until the water runs off clean so nothing smokes when the next person uses it.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The oven itself: Door seal cleaned around rather than soaked, because a saturated seal perishes
- How the job is left: Existing damage photographed and pointed out before we start, not after
- The oven itself: Rinsed repeatedly, so nothing smokes the first time you use it
- How the job is left: Everything reassembled in the right order, including the glass, and the door checked for closure
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Forest Fields
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Forest Fields. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
There are six microwaves in the house. Do they all have to be done at once?
No, though it is usually cheaper if they are. Each one is priced as its own item, so a landlord booking the cooker plus five or six room microwaves in a single visit pays for one trip rather than several. The practical limit is access to the rooms. We need each tenant to have agreed to us going in, or the rooms empty at a changeover, and otherwise we do the ones we can reach and come back for the rest.
Whose oven is it in a shared house, and who books the clean?
The landlord owns it and normally books it, most often ahead of a room inspection or a licence renewal. Tenants do book it themselves when a check out is coming and the kitchen appears on their inventory. Either works. What we ask for is one named person to let us in and a clear answer on which of you is paying, because a cooker in a house of six otherwise becomes everybody's problem and nobody's booking.
The cooker is wired to a cooker point. How far does it come out?
Far enough to do the sides and the gap, and no further. A freestanding cooker on a cooker point has a fixed tail with limited slack, so we ease it out on its feet, clean what it reveals and put it back level. We do not disconnect anything, and we will not lift a gas cooker off its bayonet fitting. If it has not moved in years, expect the floor under it to need doing and to see the state of the vinyl seam it has been standing on.
Can you do it while the tenants are still using the kitchen?
Yes, but the kitchen is out of use for the length of the job and everybody in the house needs telling, not just whoever booked. The products are caustic, the removable parts are in a tank and the floor is sheeted, so people wandering in to make toast is the actual problem. In a house of six the answer is a note on the kitchen door the day before and a start early enough that we are finished before people come home from work.
Do you cover the whole of Forest Fields?
Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Forest Fields?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Forest Fields?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Parking is on-street with cars nose to tail both sides, and the shared back entries are often the easier way in with equipment, and we group Forest Fields with Hyson Green, New Basford and Radford on the rota.
