Oven Cleaning for Sherwood Rise homes

One owner fitting out a whole villa buys the same cooker four or five times, so a building here holds identical built under singles of one age, failing in the same place. Racks and door glass go down three flights to the tank.

The oven in a converted flat is almost never the occupant's. It arrived with the letting, it is listed on the inventory as the landlord's fixture, and it is usually a compact built under single set below a worktop in a room that was a bedroom before the building was split. Where the whole house is in one ownership, four or five flats hold the same cooker, bought together and fitted in the same week, so they have aged at the same rate and there is a case for doing them in one visit rather than one at a time as tenancies end. Where the flats were sold off individually, every oven is a different make and a different age, and each is its own booking made by whoever lives behind that door.

Sherwood Rise sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly large three storey Victorian villas and bay fronted semis on the slope, most of them long since divided into self contained flats, with a run of smaller terraces at the lower end, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Sherwood Rise oven cleaning jobs

The hob is a separate appliance here and it is where the mess actually sits. A four zone ceramic unit dropped into a thin worktop is held by clips underneath and sealed round its rim with a foam or silicone bead, and boil over runs under the glass edge and stops at that bead. From above you see a brown line following the whole perimeter. It is not on the glass, so a blade held flat does nothing to it, and the unit does not come out for cleaning because lifting one means disconnecting it. We work that line from the edge inwards with a soft tool and solvent, and we say plainly what will lighten rather than clear.

How a Sherwood Rise oven cleaning job actually runs

Two things decide how an oven visit runs in a building like this. The first is air. Oven products are caustic and want ventilation, and in a converted flat the kitchen is frequently the room with the least of it. Propping the flat door open is the obvious answer and the one thing you cannot do here, because the smell goes straight up the stairwell to four other households. So we work with the kitchen window open, internal doors shut, the flat door closed, and allow extra rinsing rather than less. The second is the carry. Everything arrives on foot: the soaking tank, the bags for the racks, the sheeting for the floor. Kerb space on this slope is taken from early in the morning, the van stands on the gradient braked and turned into the kerb, and it may not be outside your building at all. When you book, give us the floor, the entry arrangement, and whether the cooker is freestanding or built under. Say too if a neighbour is having theirs done the same day, because two ovens in one house is one trip up those stairs instead of two.

Who books it here

On the practical side: The hill is the problem. Most front doors sit above a flight of stone steps, so equipment comes up on foot, and the van parks on a gradient with the wheels turned in. Communal entrances need a fob or somebody to buzz us in.

We run Sherwood Rise on the same round as Carrington, Forest Fields and New Basford.

What we check on every Sherwood Rise job

Freestanding cookers in these flats stand on the original floor, and that floor is joists which have been cut about twice, once when the house went up and again when a bedroom became a kitchen. So there is a fall in it, the cooker rocks, and somebody has wound the front feet out to stop it. That matters the moment we pull the appliance out to reach the sides and the gap behind. It has to go back onto the same footprint at the same height, or the door drops out of square and stops sealing at the top corner, which is what makes an oven smoke at the hinge side and leaves a brown line on the fascia above the handle. So the feet get marked before anything moves, the closure is checked on a strip of paper at both corners afterwards, and where the appliance was already out of level, you are told and shown at the start rather than at the end.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The oven itself: Rinsed repeatedly, so nothing smokes the first time you use it
  • The oven itself: Fan cover and back plate removed where the model allows, and the housing behind it degreased
  • How the job is left: Freestanding cookers pulled out where safe, so the sides and the gap are done
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Metal mesh filters degreased in solution, which is the part holding most of the grease

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Sherwood Rise property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What oven cleaning costs in Sherwood Rise

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in Sherwood Rise. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

We rent. Should the landlord be paying for this, or us?

Either can, and it is worth knowing which you are. The cooker is the landlord's property and appears on your inventory, so a clean protects somebody else's appliance and your own deposit in the same visit. A tenant can book and pay for it perfectly well. A landlord doing the whole house gets more out of one visit, because the equipment comes up the stairs once and the parts from one flat soak while the next cavity is dwelling.

We are on the top floor. Does that change how it is done?

It changes the length of the visit rather than the method. Removable parts soak in a heated tank in the van, so racks, side runners, trays and the grill pan travel down two or three flights and back up again. They go bagged and in one trip each way, because the staircase is shared and nobody wants a grill pan standing on their landing. Tell us the floor when you book and the time we allow reflects it.

It has not been cleaned in years. Is one visit enough?

Usually, and occasionally not. A cooker that has served four tenancies without a proper strip down carries a carbon layer thick enough to want a second application, which is more dwell time rather than more effort. In a flat standing empty between lettings that is fine, because the day is ours. In an occupied flat it means a longer visit than you had planned around. We would rather quote from a photograph of the cavity and the inside of the door than find out on the morning.

Can you do every flat in the building on one day?

Yes, and it is the sensible way to buy it where a single owner holds them all. Parts from the first flat soak while the second cavity dwells, so the waiting that dominates one oven clean gets used instead of wasted. What it needs is access arranged for every flat on the same morning, and that is the part that fails. One tenant at work with no arrangement made stops that flat and not the others. Confirm the running order a week ahead, not on the day.

Do you cover the whole of Sherwood Rise?

Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in Sherwood Rise?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in Sherwood Rise?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. The hill is the problem, and we group Sherwood Rise with Carrington, Forest Fields and New Basford on the rota.
