Who pays for cleaning the shared staircase in a converted house?
Whoever owns the building. Where the flats are all let by one landlord it goes on their instruction and we clean the hall, stairs and landings on a set rota. Where the flats have been sold off, it comes out of the service charge and the managing agent books it. What does not work is one tenant paying for a staircase five households walk up, so we quote the common parts separately and say what is in them.
