Mattress Cleaning for Sherwood Rise homes
The bed in a furnished flat belongs to the landlord and stays when the tenant goes, so the person sleeping on it cannot replace it and the person who can never sees it. Most of them went up the stairs on edge.
Most beds here came with the flat. A furnished letting in a converted villa lists the mattress on the inventory with its condition recorded at check in, so it is inspected at the end of every tenancy and bought by nobody in between. The two people with an interest in it are looking at different things. Whoever sleeps on it wants it clean and wants the deposit back. Whoever owns it wants it presentable for the next viewing and wants to put off replacing it. One visit serves both, and who books it is usually settled by whichever of them is holding the flat on the day it stands empty. Between tenancies is the right moment anyway, since the bed can be stripped, worked on both faces and left to dry with nobody needing it that night.
Sherwood Rise sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. Almost every large house has been cut into flats, so the front door opens onto a staircase that four or five households use and none of them own. That common hall is where the dirt collects, and it is usually nobody's job until a letting agent asks.
What we run into on Sherwood Rise mattress cleaning jobs
Look at the side handles and the border stitching. A mattress hauled up a stair with two turns in it has been pulled by those handles, which are sewn into the border tape and were never lifting points, and on a good number one has torn out or the tape has puckered along a run of stitching. The same carry bends the mattress round the turn, which opens the seam at the fold. It matters for cleaning, not looks, because a split border is a way in for water, and water in the filling is the one thing that cannot be got back out. Where we find one, that side is treated dry and the open seam is left alone.
How a Sherwood Rise mattress cleaning job actually runs
Book a morning. In a one bedroom flat the bed being cleaned is the only bed there is, so a job started at nine leaves you something to sleep on that night and the same job started at three does not. There is no spare room to fall back on here, and the sofa in a converted flat is usually a two seater. Strip the bed before we arrive, protector included, and have somewhere for the bedding that is not the bed, because a small room fills up fast once a mattress comes off its base. Getting in is the usual arrangement for these buildings: someone in the flat, a code we have been given for the panel, or keys logged to us in writing. Three things change the time more than the size of the mattress does, so mention them when you book: whether the base has drawers, whether the bed is a divan or a slatted frame, and whether the room is up in the roof. Where an owner is doing two flats in the same building on one day, say so, since both beds are then covered by a single visit.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly large three storey Victorian villas and bay fronted semis on the slope, most of them long since divided into self contained flats, with a run of smaller terraces at the lower end, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Sherwood Rise on the same round as Carrington, Forest Fields and New Basford.
What we check on every Sherwood Rise job
The base tells you more about the tenancy than the mattress does. Furnished flats are let with drawer divans because storage is the thing these rooms have least of, and those drawers are where a letting quietly accumulates: a spare pillow still in its wrapper, a curtain that did not fit, a bag of hangers, and a layer of grit that came in on shoes and went straight under the bed. Nobody empties them at check out because nobody remembers they are there and the inventory rarely spells it out. On a floor with a fall in it, and most of these have one, a plastic runner will not hold a loaded drawer shut, so it stands proud and the gap takes in more of the same. We empty them, vacuum the void, wipe the runners dry rather than spraying anything into them, and hand over whatever was inside.
What the mattress cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The mattress itself: More dry passes than wet ones, so less water goes in than a carpet would take
- Stains and odour: An honest verdict on what will lighten rather than clear, given before we start rather than after
- The mattress itself: Label and construction checked before anything is applied
- Stains and odour: Cold treatment for protein: blood, sweat, milk and vomit
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What mattress cleaning costs in Sherwood Rise
Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£40 to £70
Typical per mattress in Sherwood Rise. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per mattress |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Cot or child's mattress | £15 to £30 |
| Single | £25 to £45 |
| Double | £40 to £70 |
| King | £50 to £85 |
| Super king | £60 to £100 |
One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Divan base or headboard, each | £25 to £50 |
| Set stain treatment, per area | £10 to £30 |
| Deodorising treatment | £10 to £25 |
| Second and later mattresses, same visit | 20% to 30% less each |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The flat is furnished. Can I ask the landlord to pay for it?
Ask, and ask in writing before the tenancy ends. The mattress is their property and it is on your inventory, so the clean protects their asset and your deposit at once, and plenty of owners will meet or share the cost when it is put that way. What does not work is doing it and invoicing afterwards. With no answer, book it yourself close to check out and keep the receipt with the check in photographs, because that pairing is what an adjudicator can read.
Our bedroom is up in the roof. Is that a problem?
It helps with the drying and hinders the handling. An attic flat sits under the warmest part of the building and the air moves once a window is open, so a mattress finished in a top floor room is usually ready sooner than one in a lower ground bedroom. What you lose is room to work. A bed pushed under a sloping ceiling can only be reached from one long side, so it gets turned end to end instead of walked round, which adds time.
Can it be cleaned with the bed still made up in the room?
It stays where it is, stripped, and here that is normally the only option. Standing a double on its edge needs floor space a subdivided bedroom does not have, and walking one out onto a shared landing is not fair on the neighbours. So it is worked flat on the base, one face, then lifted, turned and worked on the other. If the bed is a slatted frame rather than a divan, say so, because the slats take somebody's weight and a few will not.
What if it turns out to be past saving?
We say so before starting rather than take the money. A mattress that has collapsed, been soaked at some point or gone mouldy through the filling is a replacement, and the honest advice is to spend on the new one. Getting the old one out of a third floor flat is then its own problem, because it cannot stand on a shared landing waiting for a collection. Book the council bulky collection or a registered carrier first and match the dates, and ask any carrier for their registration number.
Do you cover the whole of Sherwood Rise?
Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does mattress cleaning cost in Sherwood Rise?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Sherwood Rise?
Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. The hill is the problem, and we group Sherwood Rise with Carrington, Forest Fields and New Basford on the rota.
