Mattress Cleaning for New Basford homes
Beds go against a solid brick external wall in the coldest room in the house, which decides both what is on the mattress and how long it takes to dry. Morning slot, air moving, and an honest verdict before anything is applied.
Two things settle a mattress job on these streets. The first is the wall. A back bedroom in a terrace of this age has a solid brick external wall with no cavity in it, the room is the last one in the house to pick up any warmth, and the bed is pushed against that wall because there is nowhere else in the room for it to go. The second is the staircase, which turns at the top under a ceiling following the pitch of the roof and settled the question of bed size long ago. So the work happens on the bed, in the room, with one long side against cold brick, and drying takes noticeably longer here than the same mattress would take in a warmer house.
New Basford sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. Our own postcode, so it is the shortest journey we make and usually the easiest slot to fill at short notice.
What we run into on New Basford mattress cleaning jobs
Strip the bed away from that wall and the evidence is on the face that was against it. There is a band of grey speckling along the wall facing seam and up onto the piping, often with the same speckling on the skirting and the plaster behind, and it is mildew rather than soil. Cold brick, warm damp air off a sleeping body and a gap of two centimetres with nothing moving in it is all it takes. Cleaning removes what has grown on the surface and we will photograph the area so you have a record of it. What stops it returning is a hand's width of space behind the bed and some background heat in the room.
How a New Basford mattress cleaning job actually runs
Everything for this job goes up a staircase that turns at the top, so it travels in two trips and it stays in the bedroom until we leave. Nothing gets carried back down halfway through, which matters on a street where the front door opens onto the footway and there is nowhere to stand equipment. A morning slot is what we push for and it is not a preference. A back bedroom in one of these houses is small, the window over the yard is modest and the room is the last one to pick up any heat, so a mattress finished at four in the afternoon is a mattress nobody can sleep on that night. Started at nine, with air moving over it and the door shut, it is ready by the evening. The third bedroom, the one over the stairwell, is the awkward booking. The bed goes under the window and touches two walls, so it wants drawing out before we arrive or a spare pair of hands on the day. Say which room it is in when you book, because that room is a different visit from a front bedroom with space around the bed.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly Victorian terraces and former lace-industry buildings, with pockets of newer flats around the tram line, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run New Basford on the same round as Hyson Green, Sherwood and Bulwell.
What we check on every New Basford job
Take the bedding off and look at the head end of the bed. In these rooms it stands against an external wall or against the chimney breast, and a fabric headboard pressed to cold plaster picks up a line of its own: darker along the top edge where warm air has risen past it, dusty in the seam where the panel meets the frame, and marked at the two points where somebody has sat up against it every night for years. The wall behind carries the same band. Nothing reaches either of them, because the headboard has never once been moved. The drawer in the base is the second. Divan drawers in these houses hold spare bedding, they run on a plastic wheel bearing directly on the floorboards, and what has collected in the bottom of one is a grey felt off whatever has been stored in it plus the grit the wheel has carried in off the boards. Both go on the list rather than being treated as extras.
What the mattress cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Stains and odour: An honest verdict on what will lighten rather than clear, given before we start rather than after
- The rest of the bed: Divan base sides and top platform vacuumed and spot cleaned
- The rest of the bed: Fabric headboard cleaned to the same standard as the mattress
- The rest of the bed: Ottoman and drawer interiors cleared of dust and debris
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What mattress cleaning costs in New Basford
Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£40 to £70
Typical per mattress in New Basford. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per mattress |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Cot or child's mattress | £15 to £30 |
| Single | £25 to £45 |
| Double | £40 to £70 |
| King | £50 to £85 |
| Super king | £60 to £100 |
One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Divan base or headboard, each | £25 to £50 |
| Set stain treatment, per area | £10 to £30 |
| Deodorising treatment | £10 to £25 |
| Second and later mattresses, same visit | 20% to 30% less each |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
There is grey spotting down the side of the mattress that faced the wall.
That is mildew, and it is a condensation fault rather than a cleaning failure. Warm moist air meets a cold solid wall, the side of the mattress traps it against the brick, and growth starts in the ticking where no air reaches. We treat and remove the surface growth and record what was there. Pulling the bed away from the wall and keeping a little heat in the room through winter does far more for it than any product we could put on it.
It is a room only let and the other tenants are in the house. Does that work?
Yes, with the times agreed rather than assumed. We work one room, use the shared stair twice, once in and once out, and the air mover runs in that bedroom with the door shut instead of blowing across a landing everybody is using. What we need is the room clear of belongings, the bed reachable from at least one long side, and a window that opens. The person whose room it is should plan to be somewhere else for the afternoon.
It is a furnished let. What will an inventory clerk want to see?
Condition recorded rather than a promise about it. A protector fitted and in good order, no staining that has appeared during the tenancy without a note against it, and a dated record of when the bed was last cleaned. We photograph both faces, the seams and the base before and after, and list anything that has lightened rather than cleared. That record is what stops a mark that was there at check in being argued about at check out.
It is memory foam and the room is cold. Can it still be done?
It can, with less water than a sprung mattress would take and no extraction at all. Foam is a closed structure that holds moisture in the middle where no air reaches, and a cold back bedroom is the slowest drying room in the house, so the two problems compound. We vacuum it thoroughly, spot treat what needs it, move air across the surface and give you a time when it is safe to make up. If that time is too late for you, we say so at booking instead.
Do you cover the whole of New Basford?
Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does mattress cleaning cost in New Basford?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start mattress cleaning in New Basford?
Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Straightforward, and we group New Basford with Hyson Green, Sherwood and Bulwell on the rota.
