Mattress Cleaning for Aspley homes

The chimney breast and a radiator under the window leave one place a double will go, so the bed sits against the outer wall for years. That face of the mattress is the one that smells, not the one you sleep on.

Two things in an Aspley bedroom decide where a bed goes, and neither of them is choice. There is a chimney breast on the party wall in both main bedrooms, leaving a shallow alcove either side of it, and there is one radiator sitting under the window. A double will not stand under the window without covering the radiator, so it ends up in an alcove or long side on against the outside wall, and it stays there as long as the household does. That is the whole job here. The face of the mattress nearest that wall gets the least air and the most cold, and it is the side that carries the smell rather than the side anyone sleeps on. We work both faces and then clean the wall line and skirting behind the headboard.

Aspley sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. Solid, uncomplicated houses. The common jobs are a fortnightly clean and a proper deep clean once a year, usually starting with an oven that has waited too long.

What we run into on Aspley mattress cleaning jobs

What turns up on the wall behind a headboard is a fine dark speckling rather than a patch, heaviest in the corner where the outside wall meets the party wall and highest near the ceiling. That is surface growth on a cold face. It does not come off a mattress or a wall by being attacked harder, and a fragrance sprayed over it buys about a week. We treat what is on paint, we tell you where it has got into wallpaper and needs the paper off, and we say plainly that a bed pushed tight to that wall will bring it straight back. A hand's width of air behind the headboard does more than any product we carry.

How an Aspley mattress cleaning job actually runs

Most of this work here is booked for one of two reasons and they run to different clocks. A household books it because a bed has stood in the same position for years and somebody has finally noticed the smell, and that wants a morning slot with the afternoon left to air the room. A landlord books it between tenancies, because a mattress listed on the inventory that fails a check in has to be replaced rather than argued about, and that wants a date fixed against the check in appointment rather than against the day the last tenant leaves. Access is the easy part. There is parking outside and the equipment is small, so nothing has to be run from a distance. What we ask for before the day is the bed stripped, the floor clear on one side of it, and anything stored underneath pulled out, because a divan cannot be tipped up with boxes beneath it and we would rather not be the ones deciding what moves where. If the room belongs to a child, plan on the bed being out of use until the evening.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly 1930s council-built semis and later infill, most with generous gardens and original layouts, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run Aspley on the same round as Bilborough, Bulwell and Hyson Green.

What we check on every Aspley job

The base is half of the job and almost nobody expects it. Divans on this stock are the two piece type joined by clips, standing on castors that have sunk through the carpet pile into the same four spots since the bed was bought. The platform under the mattress carries a felted grey layer of skin, fibre and household dust bound together, and that is the source of a smell people blame on the mattress itself. A drawer base adds two more voids to it. We vacuum the platform and the sides with a HEPA machine, spot clean anything that has gone through the ticking, clear out the drawer interiors and then do the floor and the skirting the bed has been hiding since it arrived. Fabric headboards are usually bolted through and stay where they are, cleaned to the same standard as the rest. Where a base genuinely cannot be moved we say so and clean what can actually be reached.

What the mattress cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The rest of the bed: Fabric headboard cleaned to the same standard as the mattress
  • The mattress itself: HEPA vacuum over both faces, the sides, seams, piping and handles
  • Stains and odour: Mineral tidemarks from perspiration treated separately from the body oils beside them
  • The rest of the bed: The gap behind and under the bed, which nothing reaches once the frame is in place

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Aspley property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What mattress cleaning costs in Aspley

Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£40 to £70

Typical per mattress in Aspley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per mattress
Minimum call-out£60 to £90
Cot or child's mattress£15 to £30
Single£25 to £45
Double£40 to £70
King£50 to £85
Super king£60 to £100

One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Divan base or headboard, each£25 to £50
Set stain treatment, per area£10 to £30
Deodorising treatment£10 to £25
Second and later mattresses, same visit20% to 30% less each

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Can the mattress be taken outside or downstairs to be done?

No, and it does not need to be. The work happens in the room the bed is in, on a low moisture method that puts in far less water than a carpet takes, so there is nothing to carry and nothing dripping down a staircase. What we do need is the bed stripped and pulled a good arm's length off the wall before we arrive, and enough clear floor on one side to stand the mattress on edge while the base is done.

Will it dry properly in a cold back bedroom?

It will if the room is helped. Book a morning slot, put the heating on a low steady setting rather than a short blast, leave the bedroom door open and crack the window for the afternoon so the moist air has somewhere to go. We move air across the surface before leaving. Do not remake the bed the same evening in a room that has stayed shut and cold, because that traps what little moisture is left in exactly the wrong place.

Ours is memory foam. Can it be done at all?

Vacuumed, spot treated and deodorised, yes. Wet cleaned, no. Most memory foam carries a spot clean or dry clean only instruction, and foam that has taken water holds it in the core where nothing reaches it, which is how a mattress ends up worse than it started. So we work it dry, treat what is on the surface and tell you what we have not been able to touch. If the label has gone, we treat it as foam and stay on the cautious side.

There are old yellow marks. Will they go?

They will usually lighten rather than disappear, and you should hear that before we start rather than after. Those tidemarks are the mineral content of perspiration and body oils that have dried into the ticking over years, and the ring at the edge is often set harder than the middle. We treat the protein and the mineral separately because they respond to different things. What we will not do is promise a mark will clear and then hand you a mattress that looks much as it did.

Do you cover the whole of Aspley?

Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does mattress cleaning cost in Aspley?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Aspley?

Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Straightforward, with on-street parking and drives on many properties, and we group Aspley with Bilborough, Bulwell and Hyson Green on the rota.
