Mattress Cleaning for Bilborough homes

Bedrooms sized to a bed and a wardrobe, so a double is cleaned where it lies rather than stood on end. The find is underneath: a bloom on the cover where a solid divan platform has held moisture against a cold outside wall.

Bedrooms on this stock are sized to a bed and a wardrobe and not much else, and that decides how a mattress gets cleaned here. The bed stands against a wall, the wardrobes fill the foot of the room, and what is left is a walkable strip down one side, so there is nowhere to stand a double on its edge and no clear floor to lay it flat on. It gets cleaned where it lies, on its base, one face at a time, and the second face is done by turning it in place rather than carrying it out onto the landing. That works because the process is low moisture rather than saturating, but it does mean the room has to be clear enough to work down both sides of the bed.

Bilborough sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. Predictable layouts, which means quotes here are accurate from the description alone and rarely need revising on the day.

What we run into on Bilborough mattress cleaning jobs

The underside is where the find is. A divan with a solid top platform gives a mattress no air beneath it, and where the bed stands against an outside wall the coldest surface in the room is the one it is pressed against. Turn it over and there is a grey bloom in the shape of the platform, heaviest along the wall edge, sometimes with the outline of the base seams printed through it. That is growth on condensed moisture rather than a stain, and it wants treating and drying rather than wetting. Standing the base a hand's width off the wall is what stops it returning.

How a Bilborough mattress cleaning job actually runs

A mattress clean gets booked here for one of two reasons and they run to different timetables. On the rented stock the bed belongs to the landlord and the clean sits in the void between tenancies alongside the check out, which means a fixed date and an empty house. In an owner occupied house it follows an illness, a child, a pet or a move, the date is whatever suits, and the drying is the thing to plan around instead. Allow four to six hours before the bed is made up again, longer in a rear bedroom that gets no sun and is kept shut all day. What helps is simple. Put the heating on for the morning, open the window on the latch and leave the bedroom door open so air moves through. We bring air movement with us and can leave it running while we work elsewhere, which is a fair reason to book a mattress alongside something else rather than on its own. Strip the bed before we arrive, please, with the bedding already in the machine, because washing the linen the same day is what stops the smell going straight back onto a clean mattress.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly interwar and postwar estate housing, largely semis, with consistent room sizes and layouts, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run Bilborough on the same round as Wollaton, Aspley and Bulwell.

What we check on every Bilborough job

Divan drawers are the second half of this job and almost nobody asks for them. A two drawer base has open backs and no dust seal, so the boxes sit inside the frame collecting whatever falls through the platform above, and what comes out of them is consistent: fibre shed from the mattress, skin dust, hair, a layer of grit walked in off the carpet and the odd item lost years ago. On a bed standing against an outside wall the back of the drawer box is often the dampest timber in the room. Both drawers come out completely, the boxes are vacuumed along the joints with the crevice tool, the void in the frame behind them gets done as well, and they go back dry. The headboard is worth adding at the same time, because a fabric one takes the same treatment as the mattress and holds hair oil in a band across the top edge where everybody leans back.

What the mattress cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The rest of the bed: The gap behind and under the bed, which nothing reaches once the frame is in place
  • Stains and odour: Mineral tidemarks from perspiration treated separately from the body oils beside them
  • The mattress itself: HEPA vacuum over both faces, the sides, seams, piping and handles
  • The rest of the bed: Fabric headboard cleaned to the same standard as the mattress

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What mattress cleaning costs in Bilborough

Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£40 to £70

Typical per mattress in Bilborough. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per mattress
Minimum call-out£60 to £90
Cot or child's mattress£15 to £30
Single£25 to £45
Double£40 to £70
King£50 to £85
Super king£60 to £100

One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Divan base or headboard, each£25 to £50
Set stain treatment, per area£10 to £30
Deodorising treatment£10 to £25
Second and later mattresses, same visit20% to 30% less each

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Can it be done without taking the mattress out of the room?

Yes, and in these bedrooms it has to be. There is no landing space to stand a double up on and very little floor left in the room once the wardrobes are counted, so we work it on the base, one face at a time, and turn it where it lies. What we need is both sides of the bed clear and half a metre of working room, which usually means moving a bedside table and whatever is stored under the bed.

There is a grey shadow on the underside. Is the mattress finished?

Usually not, if it is sitting on the surface. Growth of that kind forms on the cover where a solid divan platform has held moisture against a cold outside wall, and it responds to treatment and proper drying. What does not recover is a mattress that has been soaked right through at some point, because the inside cannot be reached and cannot be dried. We look at both faces and tell you which of the two you have before anything is applied.

How long before the bed can be made up?

Four to six hours in a warm room with air moving, and longer in a bedroom that stays shut and faces away from the sun. Far less water goes into a mattress than into a carpet, so the wait is shorter than people expect, but a made bed traps whatever is left. If the room is cold, put the heating on for the morning and leave the door and a window on the latch, and we will leave a fan running while we work elsewhere.

Will this deal with the smell rather than cover it?

That depends what is causing it. Urine is treated with an enzyme that breaks down the crystals a detergent leaves behind, and it needs dwell time rather than more product. A stale smell from slow drying is a different problem and it leaves with the moisture. What we will not do is lay fragrance over either of them, because it comes back in the first warm week and you have paid for nothing. We tell you which one you have before we start.

Do you cover the whole of Bilborough?

Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does mattress cleaning cost in Bilborough?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Bilborough?

Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Good, with on-street parking and generous road widths, and we group Bilborough with Wollaton, Aspley and Bulwell on the rota.
