Mattress Cleaning for Kimberley homes
Owner occupiers who have slept on the same bed for years, in back bedrooms too small to turn a mattress in. The stair below it turns twice on the way up, so nothing comes down to be worked on. It gets cleaned where it lies.
The bed does not leave the room, and in the older houses it could not if we wanted it to. A back bedroom over a terrace kitchen is often just wide enough for a double with one long side against the wall, and the staircase below turns twice before it reaches the landing, so a sprung double is not coming down it in one piece. On the estates the rooms are larger but fitted wardrobes take an internal wall and push the bed against the gable. Either way the mattress is worked flat where it stands. The other local fact is ownership: these are households that have been here for years rather than tenancies turning over, so the beds are old and the soiling is cumulative rather than recent.
Kimberley sits in NG16, under Broxtowe Borough Council. Two housing eras that want different visits. The older streets give small rooms, narrow hallways and a lot of doors, so the time goes on moving between spaces rather than on any one of them. The estates are open plan and hard floored, where the time goes on the floor and the glass.
What we run into on Kimberley mattress cleaning jobs
The side that has never been turned is the thing we find most often here. A two sided sprung mattress is supposed to be flipped a few times a year, and in a room where the bed touches three walls nobody ever does it, because there is nowhere to stand it while you turn it. So one face takes every night for a decade and the other comes up almost clean, with the label still crisp. You can usually see a shallow trench along the sleeping side and a firm, unused shoulder along the wall side. That tells us where to concentrate, and it tells you whether a topper is holding the bed together or hiding what is under it.
How a Kimberley mattress cleaning job actually runs
Book it for a morning, and book it for a week with some weather in it. Drying is the whole constraint in these houses: a solid walled back bedroom with one small window and a door that gets shut holds moisture for hours longer than a modern room does, and a bed cleaned at four on a November afternoon is not one anybody should sleep on that night. We run air across the surface while we work the base and the headboard, and we ask for the window ajar and the door open afterwards. The second practical point is getting there. The kit comes up a narrow stair with a turn in it, in two trips rather than one, and it sits on the landing while we work, so a landing stacked with laundry baskets costs time. Sockets are the third. Older bedrooms often have one, sometimes behind the bed, and an air mover and a machine both want power, so we bring a lead and we need somewhere sensible to run it that nobody trips on. Tell us at booking where the household is sleeping that night, because it changes the order we do the beds in.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly red brick terraces on the streets climbing away from the town centre, interwar semis along Nottingham Road, and estates from the 1970s onward filling the gaps out toward the A610, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Kimberley on the same round as Nuthall, Stapleford and Bilborough.
What we check on every Kimberley job
The coldest room in a lot of the estate houses is the one over the integral garage, and that is often a bedroom. There is nothing heated below it, only a garage door that has been open and shut all day, so the floor runs cold and the room sits a degree or two behind the rest of the house all winter. A mattress in there gives up moisture more slowly than the same mattress would in a first floor room over a warm kitchen, and it is also the room where a protector is most likely to have been used and least likely to have been washed. We put the air movement into that room first and check it by hand at the base of the pile rather than by eye at the surface. If the bed in there belongs to a child, it is the one to schedule earliest in the day.
What the mattress cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The mattress itself: HEPA vacuum over both faces, the sides, seams, piping and handles
- The rest of the bed: Fabric headboard cleaned to the same standard as the mattress
- Stains and odour: Cold treatment for protein: blood, sweat, milk and vomit
- The mattress itself: Label and construction checked before anything is applied
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What mattress cleaning costs in Kimberley
Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£40 to £70
Typical per mattress in Kimberley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per mattress |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Cot or child's mattress | £15 to £30 |
| Single | £25 to £45 |
| Double | £40 to £70 |
| King | £50 to £85 |
| Super king | £60 to £100 |
One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Divan base or headboard, each | £25 to £50 |
| Set stain treatment, per area | £10 to £30 |
| Deodorising treatment | £10 to £25 |
| Second and later mattresses, same visit | 20% to 30% less each |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Can the mattress be stood on its side while you work?
Rarely in the older bedrooms, and we do not force it. Standing a double upright needs floor space the room does not have and a ceiling height the back bedrooms often do not give either, and a mattress bent against a coving or a light fitting is a mattress with a damaged edge. We work it flat on the base instead, doing the top face, then the sides and seams, and lifting one end at a time onto a support to reach beneath.
Ours has never been turned. Is the underside worth doing?
Yes, and it is usually the cheap half of the visit because there is so little on it. If the mattress is genuinely two sided, cleaning both faces and then turning it puts the fresh side into service, which does more for how the bed feels than anything we can do to the worn face. If it is a one sided design, and most bought recently are, the underside still gets vacuumed and the label checked, but it stays where it is.
Where do we sleep the night you do the main bed?
Plan that before we arrive rather than at five in the afternoon. Four to eight hours in a ventilated room is normal and a cold bedroom takes the longer end of it, so a morning booking usually gets the bed back the same night and an afternoon one usually does not. If there are two beds to do, we can do the spare first and finish early enough that the main room dries with the window open, or split them across two visits. Say which matters more when you book.
Is a topper cleaned as part of the mattress?
It is checked first and then treated on its own terms, because it is often a different material from the bed under it. Many toppers here are memory foam bought to rescue an ageing mattress, and foam takes far less moisture than a sprung mattress does. A washable one goes in a machine and comes back better than any cleaning visit will manage. A fixed cover foam one gets vacuumed, spot treated and dried, and we say up front that it will not take extraction.
Do you cover the whole of Kimberley?
Yes, all of NG16 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does mattress cleaning cost in Kimberley?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Kimberley?
Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Kerbside parking on the terraced streets, with the town centre itself pinched at lunchtime, and we group Kimberley with Nuthall, Stapleford and Bilborough on the rota.
