Mattress Cleaning for Eastwood homes
Beds here are cleaned where they stand. A bedroom in these terraces takes a double and a chimney breast and little else, so the mattress is worked from one long side, cannot be turned in the room, and is not coming down that stair.
The room decides this job before the mattress does. A first floor bedroom in one of these terraces is a small square with a chimney breast on one wall, a window on another and the door on the third, so a double goes against the breast and is reachable from one long side only. There is no clear floor to stand a mattress on edge, no landing wide enough to walk one out to, and the flight below turns at the head. So the bed is cleaned in place, on its base, with the head end pulled clear of the wall at the start and put back at the end. Bedrooms in the semis on the higher ground are ordinary rectangles with room to walk round three sides, and almost none of this applies to them.
Eastwood sits in NG16, under Broxtowe Borough Council. A hilltop town that also receives visitors, which is an unusual pair for a place this size. The terraced rows give small rooms and many doorways, and the short let stock among them wants a different visit on a different clock. The two sit within a few streets of each other.
What we run into on Eastwood mattress cleaning jobs
Because there is only one side of the bed anybody can stand at, mattresses here wear asymmetrically, and you can read it off the borders. The long side facing into the room is where people sit to put shoes on and where they push down to get up, so the piping along it is flattened, often split at one corner, and the ticking has gone shiny. The opposite border, hard against the wall, still has a crisp edge and its original nap. That changes the method rather than being a curiosity. A split seam takes water in and is slow to give it back, so the worn side is worked dry and any moisture goes on the face instead.
How an Eastwood mattress cleaning job actually runs
Getting the kit upstairs is the first part of the job. A mattress visit needs a machine, a hose and an air mover at first floor level, and in these houses that means carrying all of it up a flight with a turn at the head and a doorway immediately off it that anything bulky has to be angled through. So we use a portable unit and take it up in pieces rather than dragging one heavy thing round the turn, and we ask for the stair and the landing to be clear before we arrive. Inside the room, strip the bed and take the bedding out entirely rather than leaving it on the floor, because a small bedroom with a stripped bed in it has no spare surface. If the box room over the stairs is one of the beds, say so at booking: those rooms take a single with a few centimetres either side, the door opens inward against the bed, and the job is done kneeling. And take the morning slot. Drying is the constraint here, and nine against three is the difference between a bed you can use tonight and one you cannot.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly nineteenth century brick terraces in long rows stepped down the slope, interwar and postwar semis on the higher ground, and newer closes filling former works land toward Newthorpe and Giltbrook, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Eastwood on the same round as Kimberley, Nuthall and Hucknall.
What we check on every Eastwood job
The wall behind the bed is the part nobody includes on a quote and everybody notices once it is pointed out. Where a headboard stands against plaster there is a band at head height, a little darker than the paper around it and faintly polished, which is hair oil and skin left by years of somebody reading sitting up. Immediately above it, along the top edge of the headboard, there is a grey line of dust settled on the only horizontal surface in that part of the room. Neither shifts with a dry cloth. The band takes a mild detergent on a damp cloth and a light hand, since the lining paper in these bedrooms is old and lifts more readily than the mark does. The dust line has to be vacuumed before anything wet goes near it, or it becomes a streak running down the wall. Both get done while the bed is forward anyway.
What the mattress cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The mattress itself: Pre-treatment matched to the soiling, with proper dwell time
- The rest of the bed: Protector or topper handled, washed or refitted as the label allows
- The rest of the bed: Fabric headboard cleaned to the same standard as the mattress
- Stains and odour: Bicarbonate deodorising where the smell sits in the surface
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Eastwood property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What mattress cleaning costs in Eastwood
Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£40 to £70
Typical per mattress in Eastwood. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per mattress |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Cot or child's mattress | £15 to £30 |
| Single | £25 to £45 |
| Double | £40 to £70 |
| King | £50 to £85 |
| Super king | £60 to £100 |
One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Divan base or headboard, each | £25 to £50 |
| Set stain treatment, per area | £10 to £30 |
| Deodorising treatment | £10 to £25 |
| Second and later mattresses, same visit | 20% to 30% less each |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The bed cannot really be moved. Can it still be done properly?
Yes: that is the normal case here, not a compromise. The head end comes forward far enough to reach the wall side and the gap behind, the mattress stays on its base, and we work the face and the accessible seams first, then walk it up on edge against the wall for the far border where the room allows. Where it does not, we tell you which parts were reached rather than implying everything was. The base and headboard are done in the same visit.
How long before we can sleep in it again?
Longer than a machine specification suggests, because the room is small, the outside wall is cold and the window is the only ventilation. Book the morning so there are daylight hours left, run the heating as normal, and leave the bedroom door open so air moves to the landing. We run an air mover across the surface before we go. If the bed has to be slept in that night, say so, because it limits what can honestly be attempted on a set mark.
Could the mattress not just be taken out to the yard and done there?
It is the first thing people suggest and it does not work in these houses. The way out is through the front room or down a stair with a turn, so it gets handled twice more than it needs to be. A yard behind a terrace also has nowhere flat and clean to lay one down and nothing safe to stand it against. There is no drying advantage either, because what dries a mattress is air moved across it, and we bring that with us.
Is it worth having the divan base and the headboard done as well?
In a room this size, yes, more than it would be elsewhere. The base is effectively the floor of the room: the drawers hold everything the wardrobe could not, and the platform underneath collects what falls down the side of the bed for years. The gap between the headboard and the wall is unreachable the moment the bed goes back, and it is where dust settles heaviest. All of it is accessible for about twenty minutes on the visit and for nothing at all afterwards.
Do you cover the whole of Eastwood?
Yes, all of NG16 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does mattress cleaning cost in Eastwood?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Eastwood?
Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Streets off the main road are narrow and parked both sides, and there is nowhere to stop on the road itself, so we park off it and walk in, and we group Eastwood with Kimberley, Nuthall and Hucknall on the rota.
