Domestic Cleaning for Eastwood homes

Fortnightly houses where the levels matter more than the room count. A stepped terrace puts the yard at one height and the bathroom off a half landing, so the kit gets carried three times in a two bedroom house.

Regular work here is fortnightly, and the quote turns on how a house is stacked rather than how big it is. A terrace on one of the stepped rows gives you a front door straight off the pavement, a back door onto a yard at a different level, and a bathroom reached off a half landing in the back addition. That is three changes of level inside one two bedroom house, and each of them is somewhere a machine gets lifted rather than pulled. Houses on the higher ground behind the town are ordinary semis with everything on two flat floors and nothing to negotiate. So we ask how many levels and how many bathrooms before putting hours against a job, because in this town the bedroom count settles very little.

Eastwood sits in NG16, under Broxtowe Borough Council. Regular fortnightly visits are most of the round, in households that leave town every morning for work elsewhere. Tenancy end work follows the terraces, which change hands often and re-let quickly. Deep cleans are booked either side of a sale or a refit, and the nightly lets add changeovers spread across the year rather than piled into August.

What we run into on Eastwood domestic cleaning jobs

The boxed staircase is what gets skipped, and darkness is the reason. A flight walled on both sides with a door at the bottom has no daylight in it, so it reads as done from the landing and done from the hall while the tread edges are furred with fibre nobody has looked at for months. None of it is heavy work. It needs a light carried in, which sounds trivial until you have watched somebody clean a stair by feel because the switch is at the wrong end of it. If the stair door sticks, say so, because propping it open for the visit also lets the flight air while the rest of the house is being done.

How an Eastwood domestic cleaning job actually runs

Getting to the front door is the first job on a regular visit here. These streets were laid out before cars, so they are narrow, parked on both sides and running across a slope, and there is rarely anything off street to pull onto. On the tighter rows the practical answer is to stand the van on the nearest level stretch and carry kit the last part of the way, which is fine as long as everybody knows that is the arrangement rather than expecting a vehicle outside the door. It shapes the timetable too. A morning slot on a residential street is easier to work than an afternoon one, because cars come back from the middle of the day onwards and the same road is a different proposition by teatime. Where a house is empty during the day we would far rather hold a key or use a key safe than work to a handover, since a cleaner waiting on a doorstep on a hill in February is time paid for and nothing done. On the newer closes above the town there are drives, and none of this applies.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Streets off the main road are narrow and parked both sides, and there is nowhere to stop on the road itself, so we park off it and walk in. On the let properties we work from a key safe rather than meeting anyone.

We run Eastwood on the same round as Kimberley, Nuthall and Hucknall.

What we check on every Eastwood job

Solid brick walls with no cavity mean the coldest surface in the house is the outside corner of a bedroom, and it shows. Move a wardrobe or a chest that has stood against a gable wall since the tenancy began and there is usually a bloom of small black spots on the paper behind it, densest low down in the corner where nothing has been moved and no air has reached. It comes off, though not with a general purpose spray, and scrubbing it back with something soapy leaves enough in the paper to return by spring. What matters more than the clean is the gap. Standing furniture a hand's width off that wall and letting air behind it changes the corner more than any product does, and it is the only part of the fix that carries on working after we have gone.

What the domestic cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Kitchen: Hob and splashback exterior
  • Bedrooms and living areas: Accessible surfaces dusted
  • Bathrooms: Toilet inside and out, including the seat, hinges and base
  • Kitchen: Worktops wiped and disinfected

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full domestic cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Eastwood property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What domestic cleaning costs in Eastwood

Regular domestic cleaning, per visit, at a typical company rate. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£50 to £70

Typical per visit in Eastwood. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per visit
1 bed flat£40 to £50
2 bed£50 to £70
3 bed£60 to £80
4 bed£80 to £100
5 bed£100 to £120

A fortnightly clean of a two bedroom home works out around £1,560 to £1,820 a year. Weekly is roughly double.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Regular domestic, per hour£17 to £25
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Can the marks be cleaned off the paintwork in an old house like this?

Some of them, and the limit is the paint rather than the mark. Woodwork here has been repainted so often the film is thick and soft, and the cream cleaners and abrasive pads people reach for burnish it: the mark goes, and a dull patch appears where the sheen was, which catches the light and looks worse than the mark. So it is a damp cloth and mild detergent, and whatever will not come off gets mentioned rather than traded for a permanent scar.

There are steps and half landings everywhere in this house. Does that add hours?

It adds a little, and it is why we ask about levels rather than floor area. Carrying a machine up to a half landing and back down is time nobody quotes for and everybody spends. Across a visit to a two bedroom terrace it is perhaps fifteen minutes. What helps most is somewhere upstairs to keep a second set of cloths and a small vacuum, so the same kit is not travelling up and down all morning.

There is nowhere for a van to park on our street. Is that a problem?

Not usually, as long as we know before the first visit rather than on the morning of it. We stand on the nearest level stretch and carry what we need the rest of the way, which costs a couple of minutes at each end and nothing else. What it does affect is the slot, because the same street is far easier early than it is late. Tell us whether it is parked both sides and where the wider spot is, and the round gets built around that.

Black spots keep coming back on the bedroom wall behind the wardrobe. Can that be sorted?

We can clean the surface and it will look right, but the cause is wall temperature rather than dirt. That corner is the coldest spot in the room, moist air gives up its water there, and a wardrobe pushed flat against it stops any air reaching the wall to dry it again. Pull the furniture forward a little, leave the gap and air the room properly, and the same clean holds for a season instead of weeks. Without the gap it always comes back.

Do you cover the whole of Eastwood?

Yes, all of NG16 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does domestic cleaning cost in Eastwood?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the bathroom count more than the bedroom count, how often we come, and whether there are pets. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start domestic cleaning in Eastwood?

Usually within a week for a regular rota, and we will tell you the day rather than a window. Streets off the main road are narrow and parked both sides, and there is nowhere to stop on the road itself, so we park off it and walk in, and we group Eastwood with Kimberley, Nuthall and Hucknall on the rota.
