Mattress Cleaning for Trowell homes
Two beds in these houses with opposite problems. The one being slept in is a soiling job. The one made up in an unheated spare room for visiting family is a damp job, and water is the last thing it wants.
Most of the mattress work here is not the bed people sleep in. It is the spare room. These are houses with the space to keep one, family visit at weekends rather than living round the corner, and the bed in the back bedroom stands made up and unused from one visit to the next in a room whose radiator has been turned off since spring. That is the opposite of a soiling problem. A mattress needs air moving round it, and one pushed against an outside wall in a cold closed room gets none, so what turns up is condensation damage on the underside and along the wall side rather than marking on the face. It also changes the verdict, because water put into a mattress in that room has nowhere to go.
Trowell sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. Farmland on one side, the motorway, canal and railway on the other. Most of what lands on a house here is agricultural rather than urban: soil off a ploughed field, chaff at harvest, insects in numbers a city street never sees. It arrives in days rather than weeks, so a fixed rota misses it.
What we run into on Trowell mattress cleaning jobs
Lift a spare bed mattress and the story is on the face nobody looks at. Where it has sat on a solid divan platform in a cold room you get black spotting in a pattern that matches the platform, heaviest at the wall end, with the same spotting on the top of the base underneath it. That is condensation forming against a cold surface with no airflow through it, not anything walked in from elsewhere. Vacuuming and treatment lift what is sitting on the surface, but growth that has gone into the ticking has stained the fibre and the mark stays. Standing the mattress on edge for a day before we come tells you how much of it is loose.
How a Trowell mattress cleaning job actually runs
The room decides how long this takes, and in these houses it is usually the smallest one. A back bedroom over the stairs takes a bed and very little else, and the bed is against two walls because there is nowhere else for it to be, so the first part of the visit is getting to all four sides and the underside rather than cleaning anything. We will move a bed. We will not unload a wardrobe standing against the same wall, and a divan with drawers wants emptying before we arrive rather than while we wait. The bigger point is timing. A mattress can only dry through the face it was cleaned on, so it needs the rest of that day and the night after it with the heating on and the door open, and it should not be booked for the morning your visitors are due. Late spring is the sensible window here: the room will be warmer than it has been since October and anything we put in comes back out. If it has to happen in winter, put the radiator in that room back on several days beforehand, not on the morning.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly older brick houses and a few cottages along the main road through the village, postwar semis on the estates set behind it, and later closes edging out toward the open fields, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Trowell on the same round as Stapleford, Kimberley and Nuthall.
What we check on every Trowell job
The bedding stored with a spare bed is usually in worse condition than the mattress on it. In these houses it lives in the divan drawers underneath or in a zipped bag pushed under the frame, and both of those sit on a solid base in the coldest room in the property. Feather and hollowfibre take moisture out of the air and hold onto it, so a duvet that went into a drawer in April smells sour when it comes out in December, and the pillows go first because they are handled and breathed on before they are put away. Nothing we do to the mattress touches that. Duvets and pillows want a drum big enough for them to move in, which means a launderer rather than a cleaning visit, and the washable ones say so on the label. What we will do is empty the drawers, vacuum them out and tell you honestly which of it is worth washing.
What the mattress cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The mattress itself: Pre-treatment matched to the soiling, with proper dwell time
- The mattress itself: More dry passes than wet ones, so less water goes in than a carpet would take
- Stains and odour: Cold treatment for protein: blood, sweat, milk and vomit
- Stains and odour: Mineral tidemarks from perspiration treated separately from the body oils beside them
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Trowell property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What mattress cleaning costs in Trowell
Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£40 to £70
Typical per mattress in Trowell. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per mattress |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Cot or child's mattress | £15 to £30 |
| Single | £25 to £45 |
| Double | £40 to £70 |
| King | £50 to £85 |
| Super king | £60 to £100 |
One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Divan base or headboard, each | £25 to £50 |
| Set stain treatment, per area | £10 to £30 |
| Deodorising treatment | £10 to £25 |
| Second and later mattresses, same visit | 20% to 30% less each |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The spare bed smells musty but there are no marks on it. What is that?
Almost certainly damp rather than soil. A mattress in an unheated room with no air moving round it takes up moisture from the room and holds it in the filling, and the smell sits strongest in the underside. Cleaning the face does very little for that. What helps is airflow: the bed pulled a hand's width off the wall, the radiator in that room on low through the winter, and the mattress stood on edge for a day every few months.
Can you clean a memory foam mattress in a cold spare room?
We can vacuum, spot treat and dry it, and we would not put water through foam wherever it stood. Foam is a closed structure and holds water in the middle where no air reaches, and a cold room makes that worse rather than merely slower. If the mattress in question is foam and the room is unheated, the honest advice is to move the bed off the wall and warm the room first, because the problem you are describing is the room.
The bed is jammed into the corner of the box room. Does it need taking out?
It needs pulling clear, not taking out. We have to reach all four sides, the seams and the underside, and a bed in a corner offers two of those. A foot into the room is usually enough and we will move it ourselves. What we would rather not be doing on the day is emptying a divan drawer or shifting the contents of a wardrobe standing against the same wall, so anything stored under or beside the bed is worth dealing with before we arrive.
How soon can the bed be made up again?
The rest of the day and the night after it, and longer in a room that has been cold since spring. We work low moisture precisely because a mattress cannot be aired from underneath, so there is not much water in it, but there is some. Putting a fitted sheet and a waterproof protector straight over it seals that in. Leave it bare with the door open and the heating on in that room, and make it up the following morning rather than the same evening.
Do you cover the whole of Trowell?
Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does mattress cleaning cost in Trowell?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Trowell?
Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Off street space at nearly every house, so parking is rarely the problem, and we group Trowell with Stapleford, Kimberley and Nuthall on the rota.
