Mattress Cleaning for Wollaton homes
Loft rooms reached by a steep straight flight, and a third bedroom over the stairs that a double will not fit. Beds here are cleaned where they lie, because there is nowhere on the landing to stand one up.
Bedrooms in a 1930s semi are arranged around a staircase that was never meant to take furniture. The main room runs the width of the bay, the second sits over the back room, and the third is the box room above the stairs, which in these houses is genuinely small: a single bed, a chest of drawers and very little floor. Above that, a large number of properties here have a loft conversion, and the flight up to it is steep, straight, narrow and low at the head. A king mattress that went up that stairwell while the builders were still in will not come back down it willingly, which is the practical reason bed cleaning happens in the room here rather than somewhere more convenient.
Wollaton sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. Family homes with conservatories and a lot of glass, so interior windows and conservatory roofs come up more here than anywhere else we work.
What we run into on Wollaton mattress cleaning jobs
Two beds in the same house dry at completely different rates, and it is the room doing that rather than the mattress. A loft room sits under insulated rafters with a heated house below it, so it runs warm, and a treated mattress up there is ready by the evening. The back bedroom over a flat roofed kitchen extension is the opposite: cold from underneath, and usually fitted with the smallest opening light in the house. That is the one that gets the air mover, and we open the door onto the landing rather than the window, because on a still day the stairwell shifts more air than a small opener above a flat roof.
How a Wollaton mattress cleaning job actually runs
Bed cleaning here is booked by owner occupiers far more than by landlords, and that changes the diary rather than the work. There is no turnaround deadline behind it, so visits get set for whenever suits, which in practice means a weekday morning once the school run has gone and the drive is free again. That matters, because the drive is what makes the job easy here: the machine and the air mover come off the vehicle and through the front door in a single trip. Getting up to the bedrooms is the part worth planning. The stair turns at the top onto a small landing with three or four doors opening off it, so hoses run up and then along rather than in a straight line, and anything left standing on that landing blocks the route. We ask for beds stripped and the floor around them clear before we arrive, and for the room to be one you can leave ventilated for the rest of the day. Where a whole house is being done, the loft room and the front bedroom go first and the cold back bedroom goes last, so it has the longest to dry before bedtime.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly 1930s bay-fronted semis and detached houses, with larger properties backing onto the park, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Wollaton on the same round as Bilborough, Beeston and The Park Estate.
What we check on every Wollaton job
Divan bases are the recurring find in these houses, and it is the castors rather than the fabric. Original boarded floors upstairs are common here, and a divan on castors standing on boards works itself into the same four depressions over the years, then rocks very slightly every time somebody sits down, and that movement grinds grit into the base sides at floor level. The grey line along the bottom of a divan is abrasion, not soil, and it will not clean out. The gap behind the bed is the other one. Where the chimney breast forces the bed against an outside wall, which it usually does, the back of the base gets no air at all, and on a cold rear wall we find surface mould on the fabric of the base rather than on the mattress. That is a ventilation finding and we report it as one, because taking it off without pulling the bed forward simply means it returns by the same week next year.
What the mattress cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The rest of the bed: Ottoman and drawer interiors cleared of dust and debris
- The mattress itself: Low moisture agitation, with extraction only where the soiling justifies it
- Stains and odour: An honest verdict on what will lighten rather than clear, given before we start rather than after
- The mattress itself: Colourfast test in a hidden area, usually along the base seam
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What mattress cleaning costs in Wollaton
Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£40 to £70
Typical per mattress in Wollaton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per mattress |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Cot or child's mattress | £15 to £30 |
| Single | £25 to £45 |
| Double | £40 to £70 |
| King | £50 to £85 |
| Super king | £60 to £100 |
One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Divan base or headboard, each | £25 to £50 |
| Set stain treatment, per area | £10 to £30 |
| Deodorising treatment | £10 to £25 |
| Second and later mattresses, same visit | 20% to 30% less each |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The bed is in the loft room. Can it be done up there?
Yes, and it generally has to be. Equipment goes up in pieces and comes back down the same way, which costs a few minutes and nothing else. What we want to know beforehand is the width of the flight and whether there is a handrail, because running a hose and a hand tool up a steep straight stair is a different proposition from carrying them across a landing. Say so at booking rather than on the doorstep.
Our third bedroom only takes a single. Is a small mattress quicker?
The mattress is, the room is not. A box room over the stairs has the bed against three walls, so it comes off the base and is stood up to reach the far side and the seams, and the only place to stand it is the landing outside. Clear the floor round it before we arrive and the visit runs to time. What you pay follows the size of the bed, not the size of the room.
There is mould on the back of the divan against the outside wall. Will cleaning fix it?
Cleaning takes it off. It does not stop it happening again. Surface mould on a base pushed tight against a cold outside wall is condensation finding the least ventilated surface in the room, and the bed goes straight back into the same position afterwards. Leave a hand's width behind the base and it will not come back the same way. If the wall itself is wet rather than simply cold, that is a different problem and worth having looked at properly.
Can you do two beds and the loft room in one visit?
Usually yes, and one visit beats two because setting up is the slow part. The order matters more than the number: warm rooms first and the cold back bedroom last, so every mattress gets the longest possible window to dry before the house goes to bed. If one of them is memory foam we will tell you at booking whether it can be cleaned wet at all, since a good many of those carry a spot clean only label.
Do you cover the whole of Wollaton?
Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does mattress cleaning cost in Wollaton?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Wollaton?
Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Drives on most properties, and we group Wollaton with Bilborough, Beeston and The Park Estate on the rota.
