Mattress Cleaning for The Park Estate homes

The principal bed was assembled in the room because a superking will not turn on these stairs. It is cleaned where it lies, in a tall room that is slow to dry, and nothing goes down that staircase to be worked on elsewhere.

Bedrooms here are large and the staircase serving them is not. A Park villa stair turns at a half landing with a moulded handrail and a scrolled newel at the foot, so anything wider than a double came up in parts, which is why the principal beds in these houses are zip and link or a divan in two halves, assembled in the room and not moved since. That settles how the visit runs. Nothing is carried out to be worked on elsewhere, the mattress is cleaned where it lies, and what we need from the room is space to walk both long sides of it and somewhere to stand an air mover afterwards.

The Park Estate sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. Period detail everywhere: original timber, marble fireplaces, stone floors and stained glass. Nothing acidic goes near the stone, and we agree the products before the first visit rather than on the day.

What we run into on The Park Estate mattress cleaning jobs

Split a two part base in one of these rooms and the halves rarely feel the same. The half nearest the window, and in a room like this that means a tall sash with a deep reveal and a cold surface all winter, carries noticeably more moisture in the ticking than the half against the inner wall. You can feel it through the cover before anything is applied and it shows on a meter. That is condensation off the glass finding the nearest cold thing rather than anything the sleeper has done, and it explains why the marking on a bed in one of these rooms is so often heavier on one side than the other.

How a The Park Estate mattress cleaning job actually runs

The order the beds are done in is set by the building rather than by which one you mind most. We start with whatever is highest and furthest from the front door, so the kit goes up once and comes back down at the end, and in a divided villa that means it all travels the shared stair at the start of the visit with nothing left standing on a communal landing while we work. Machines run cordless or off a lead taken from inside the room, since landings seldom have a socket and nobody wants a cable across a shared stair. Then the room itself. Beds here stand out in the middle of a large floor rather than jammed against a wall, so there is usually space to work all four sides, which is the one thing that reliably goes right. What is missing is warmth and moving air, so we ask for the heating on the day before rather than the morning of, and for a sash that will actually open, which in a room painted shut over several decades is not a given. Tell us at booking which floor each bed is on.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly large Victorian villas in a private conservation estate, many divided into apartments, most with original features intact, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run The Park Estate on the same round as Nottingham City Centre, Lenton and Radford.

What we check on every The Park Estate job

Beds in these rooms are very often set with the headboard against the chimney breast, because it is the only wall in a large room with no window, no door and no cupboard in it. That puts the head of the mattress against a breast with a flue behind it, and where the fireplace below has been blocked up without a vent that breast stays cold and faintly damp all winter. The mustiness in the room then sits in the top corners of the mattress and in the back of a fabric headboard rather than in the middle where anyone sleeps. We put the back of a hand on the wall before starting and say if that is what we are actually dealing with, because a bed cleaned against a damp breast is back where it started by spring. Pulling the frame a few inches off the breast and leaving it there does more good than any product in the van.

What the mattress cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • The mattress itself: Air movement across the surface before we leave
  • The mattress itself: More dry passes than wet ones, so less water goes in than a carpet would take
  • The mattress itself: Low moisture agitation, with extraction only where the soiling justifies it
  • The mattress itself: Pre-treatment matched to the soiling, with proper dwell time

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What mattress cleaning costs in The Park Estate

Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£40 to £70

Typical per mattress in The Park Estate. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per mattress
Minimum call-out£60 to £90
Cot or child's mattress£15 to £30
Single£25 to £45
Double£40 to £70
King£50 to £85
Super king£60 to £100

One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Divan base or headboard, each£25 to £50
Set stain treatment, per area£10 to £30
Deodorising treatment£10 to £25
Second and later mattresses, same visit20% to 30% less each

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Mattress Cleaningin The Park Estate

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Can the bed be taken apart for it?

It can be split at the link where the base is in two halves, and that is worth doing, because the join between them collects debris and nothing ever reaches it. What we will not do is take a made up bed down the stair. These are turned staircases with original handrails and a tight half landing, and the marks left on the wall and the rail on the way down cost more to put right than the clean did.

The bedroom is on the lower ground floor. Will it dry?

Slower than the rooms above it, and that is the whole scheduling question rather than a detail. A lower ground room on this slope has the garden bank behind part of its wall, takes less sun and moves less air, so a bed ready by evening upstairs is ready the following day down there. We book those rooms for a morning, run an air mover over the surface, and ask for heat on until it is genuinely dry.

Is a protector worth fitting in a room like that?

Yes, and a breathable one rather than anything plastic backed. In a cold room a waterproof membrane traps the moisture a sleeper gives off against the top of the mattress, so instead of a stain you get a damp band across the middle of it. A cotton terry backed protector that washes at sixty degrees does the job properly, goes on dry once we have finished, and is the cheapest single thing that pushes the next clean years away.

What do you need us to do before the morning?

Strip the bed and take the linen right out of the room, clear whatever has been stored under the frame, and decide before we arrive where anybody sleeping in that bed goes tonight. If there is a rug under the bed, say so, because a rug and a damp mattress drying in one room is worth planning for. Where more than one bed is being done, leave the doors between rooms open, since carrying an air mover round a landing with full arms is how skirting gets marked.

Do you cover the whole of The Park Estate?

Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does mattress cleaning cost in The Park Estate?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start mattress cleaning in The Park Estate?

Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. A private estate with gated entrances and its own parking rules, and we group The Park Estate with Nottingham City Centre, Lenton and Radford on the rota.
