Mattress Cleaning for Bestwood homes

Family houses, so the beds are a main double and a child's single in the box room over the stairs. Both get cleaned where they stand, and the box room one has to come off the bulkhead wall before anybody can reach its far side.

Most of this is family work, and the bed booked is more often a child's than the main one. A three bedroom semi on this estate gives you a front room wide enough for a double, a back bedroom that takes one only if very little else goes in with it, and a box room over the stairs drawn for a single. So what we clean is a single with a history behind it, a bunk set, or a double that has had a child in it. Drying works in our favour upstairs. These bedrooms take sun on one side of the house or the other through the day, the landing window opens and the warm air goes up rather than sitting on a cold floor, so a bed cleaned in the morning is generally ready by bedtime.

Bestwood sits in NG5, under Nottingham City Council. Houses back onto open ground and reclaimed pit land, so what comes through the door is pale sandstone grit rather than city dust. It is abrasive, it sits deep in carpet pile, and it is the reason floors here need more than a vacuum pass.

What we run into on Bestwood mattress cleaning jobs

The edge nearest the wall is where the evidence sits. A single pushed against the bulkhead in the box room has only three sides anybody has ever touched, and the fourth carries a grey bloom along the piping where no air has crossed it since the bed went in. It vacuums off and comes straight back if the bed goes back tight against the plaster. The other find is under a bunk. A top bunk mattress is thinner than a standard one and lies on slats rather than a solid platform, so the slat lines print through: clean bars where the timber supported it and soiled stripes in the gaps between them.

How a Bestwood mattress cleaning job actually runs

A standalone mattress visit is booked by the hour of the day as much as by the date, because the bed has to be dry before anybody sleeps in it. Morning slots go first for that reason, and we would rather turn down a late afternoon booking in November than leave a family without a bed that night. Access is simple here. The van stands on the front, the front door opens into a hall with the stairs straight ahead, and there is nothing communal to negotiate on the way up. What we ask for inside is a metre of clear floor along one long side of the bed. In the main bedroom that usually means sliding it off the wall. In the box room it means moving it out for the duration, because there is no other way to reach the far side. Doing that before we arrive is time you are not paying for. Strip the bed and get the bedding into the wash rather than leaving it in the room, and if a protector is going back on, have it out ready, since it goes on dry and not before.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly postwar estate semis and short terraces laid out around wide grass verges, with 1970s and 1980s infill, and later private closes on the ground nearest the country park, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run Bestwood on the same round as Old Basford, Bulwell and Arnold.

What we check on every Bestwood job

Two things get shown to you before any water goes near the bed. The first is the label, because construction decides the method. A sprung mattress under a quilted cover takes controlled moisture. Memory foam takes almost none, and the newer beds inside these older houses are very often foam or a foam hybrid bought online, which is exactly the construction that traps water in the middle where no airflow reaches. Those get vacuumed, spot treated and dried, and they are not extracted. The second is the colourfast test, done in a hidden strip along the base seam, because a ticking that gives up dye onto a white cloth will do the same under a wand. After that the dry work is the bulk of the visit: a HEPA vacuum over both faces, the sides, the piping, the handles, the seams and the platform underneath, then treatment matched to what is actually there, and more dry passes than wet ones.

What the mattress cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Stains and odour: Enzymatic pre-treatment for urine, which breaks down the uric acid crystals a detergent leaves behind
  • Stains and odour: Bicarbonate deodorising where the smell sits in the surface
  • Stains and odour: An honest verdict on what will lighten rather than clear, given before we start rather than after
  • The rest of the bed: Fabric headboard cleaned to the same standard as the mattress

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What mattress cleaning costs in Bestwood

Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£40 to £70

Typical per mattress in Bestwood. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per mattress
Minimum call-out£60 to £90
Cot or child's mattress£15 to £30
Single£25 to £45
Double£40 to £70
King£50 to £85
Super king£60 to £100

One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Divan base or headboard, each£25 to £50
Set stain treatment, per area£10 to £30
Deodorising treatment£10 to £25
Second and later mattresses, same visit20% to 30% less each

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Will a king size go up these stairs?

Usually, though it is worth knowing before you buy one. The staircase here is a straight flight with a turn at the bottom and a fixed handrail, and the landing above it is narrow. A two part divan base goes up without trouble. A one piece sprung edge king and a rolled foam mattress of that size are the two that jam on the turn. None of it affects us, because the mattress is cleaned in the room it is already in.

There has been bedwetting for months. Is cleaning going to be enough?

It depends how far down it has gone. Urine soaked repeatedly into one area travels past anything cleaning reaches, and what smells again in a warm week is uric acid rather than surface soil. An enzymatic pre treatment with real dwell time deals with the top layer and usually with the smell. Where the filling below is saturated we will say so on the day, because a protector on a replacement is the better spend.

Can you do the divan base and the headboard as well?

Yes, and on a bed that has stood in one spot for years it is worth doing together. The base is quoted as its own item because it is real work: the platform under the mattress, the sides, the drawer interiors where there are drawers, and the strip of carpet the base has been standing on. A fabric headboard is cleaned to the same standard as the mattress, and the wall behind it usually wants a wipe once the bed is out, which we do while the mattress dries.

How long before the bed can be made up again?

Four to eight hours in a ventilated room is the normal answer, and longer for foam. Air movement runs across the surface while we do the base and the headboard, the windows go open, and we tell you when it is safe rather than leaving you to press a hand on it and guess. Bedding put onto a mattress that is still damp seals the moisture in and undoes the whole visit, so a morning booking and one night elsewhere is the sensible plan.

Do you cover the whole of Bestwood?

Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does mattress cleaning cost in Bestwood?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Bestwood?

Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Wide roads and grass verges, and a drive or hardstanding on most properties, so parking rarely costs us time, and we group Bestwood with Old Basford, Bulwell and Arnold on the rota.
