Mattress Cleaning for Rise Park homes

Owner occupiers who have had the same bed a very long time, plus a third bedroom kept for visiting grandchildren with the radiator turned off. That mattress is not dirty. It is cold, and it smells of the room rather than of anything on it.

Bedrooms here run three or four to a house and they are wildly unequal. The main one carries fitted wardrobes along a whole wall, so the floor left over is a walkway rather than a room, and a king mattress gets worked standing on its edge against the base with the door shut. The third bedroom is the more interesting booking. It is a guest room slept in at Christmas and half term, the radiator is off the rest of the year, and the mattress in it has spent months absorbing whatever moisture the house makes without ever getting warm enough to give it back. That is a drying problem before it is a cleaning one, and it changes the order of the visit.

Rise Park sits in NG5, under Nottingham City Council. Houses are private built, owner occupied and generally well kept, so a first visit is rarely a rescue. What we are called in for is reach and time rather than neglect, and the annual work is as much about removing years of polish, mop shine and soap film as removing dirt.

What we run into on Rise Park mattress cleaning jobs

Turn a guest mattress over and the underside tells you more than the top did. A divan with a solid top platform gives it no ventilation at all, and in a room kept cold with the door shut the face against that platform is where grey spotting starts, in the pattern of the boards rather than in the shape of anything spilt. Spotting sitting on the surface of the ticking can be treated. Anything that has gone through into the filling cannot be reached and is a replacement decision, so both faces get looked at before a price is given rather than the one that was showing.

How a Rise Park mattress cleaning job actually runs

Everything happens in the bedroom, which sounds obvious and is the main planning constraint. Nothing goes down the stairs, so the room has to give us enough space to stand a mattress on its edge and still get round it, and on this stock that means the small things off the floor first: the bedside cabinets, whatever lives under the bed, the airer in the corner. Divan drawers get opened and emptied, since a drawer packed with spare bedding cannot be vacuumed through. Then drying, which sets the timing more than anything else does. Low moisture work puts in far less water than a carpet takes, but it still wants air moving over it and a room that is not cold, so the useful booking is a morning slot with the heating on its normal timer and the bed left stripped and standing until evening. A guest room that has had the radiator off since spring should be warmed the day before rather than the hour before. If the bed is being slept in that night, say so when you book, because it changes how wet we are willing to go on a stain.

Who books it here

The housing here is mostly late twentieth century private estate housing in brick with concrete tile roofs, detached and semi-detached in small closes, most with an integral garage and an open plan front lawn running to the pavement, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

We run Rise Park on the same round as Top Valley, Bestwood and Arnold.

What we check on every Rise Park job

The base drawers are the part that quietly undoes the work. On a two drawer divan the drawer runs directly on the carpet, so every open and shut pushes fluff and grit under the bed and into the box, and what is stored in there is almost always spare bedding and pillows: the same textiles, in the same cold air, absorbing the same thing the mattress was absorbing. Clean the mattress, put unaired bedding straight back underneath it, and the smell is back within a fortnight. So the drawers get emptied and vacuumed out, the contents get named on the way out, and anything smelling of the room goes into a wash rather than back into the box. The other place worth a torch is the strip of carpet the bed has stood on since the room was last decorated, which is a different colour from the rest of the floor and holds what fell down the sides.

What the mattress cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Stains and odour: Mineral tidemarks from perspiration treated separately from the body oils beside them
  • Stains and odour: Enzymatic pre-treatment for urine, which breaks down the uric acid crystals a detergent leaves behind
  • Stains and odour: Cold treatment for protein: blood, sweat, milk and vomit
  • The mattress itself: Air movement across the surface before we leave

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What mattress cleaning costs in Rise Park

Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£40 to £70

Typical per mattress in Rise Park. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per mattress
Minimum call-out£60 to £90
Cot or child's mattress£15 to £30
Single£25 to £45
Double£40 to £70
King£50 to £85
Super king£60 to £100

One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Divan base or headboard, each£25 to £50
Set stain treatment, per area£10 to £30
Deodorising treatment£10 to £25
Second and later mattresses, same visit20% to 30% less each

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Can you clean the memory foam topper as well?

Usually not wet, and the label decides it rather than we do. Most memory foam is marked spot clean or dry clean only, because the foam holds water in the middle where nothing will pull it back out and it stays damp for days. What it gets instead is a HEPA vacuum over both faces and the sides, spot treatment where something has gone on it, and air moving across it afterwards. Where the label allows more, we do more.

The spare room smells musty but the mattress looks clean. What is that?

Cold rather than dirt, in most cases. A room shut up with the radiator off sits colder than the rest of the house, so moisture moves into whatever will hold it, which is the mattress, the pillows and the bedding folded into the base drawers. Cleaning the mattress on its own buys you a few weeks. Warming that room a little and airing it is what actually stops it, and the drawer contents want doing at the same time.

We think it might be bed bugs. Can you deal with that?

No, and it matters that nobody tries to. Bed bugs are pest control work for a licensed contractor, and cleaning a mattress that has them spreads them further into the room and wastes the treatment you are going to pay for anyway. What helps is to stop carrying the bedding around the house, bag whatever comes off the bed, and get a contractor in first. We are glad to come afterwards, once they have signed the job off, and clean what has been left behind.

How long before the bed can be made up again?

Usually the same evening in a warm room with the door open and air moving through it, and considerably longer in a cold one, which is why we ask about the radiator. Test it with the back of your hand rather than by looking, because a mattress reads dry on top while the layer under the ticking is not there yet. If it has to be slept in that night, tell us at the booking and we work drier, which does limit what a heavy old stain will do.

Do you cover the whole of Rise Park?

Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does mattress cleaning cost in Rise Park?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Rise Park?

Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Every house has a drive and the frontages are open, so a van parks without blocking anyone, and we group Rise Park with Top Valley, Bestwood and Arnold on the rota.
