Mattress Cleaning for Daybrook homes
The interwar semis put the airing cupboard in the back bedroom and a quarter turn stair between that bedroom and the front door. A large mattress is not coming down it on edge, so it gets cleaned where it lies.
Bedrooms in these semis come as a fixed set: a front room across the bay, a rear double, and a third over the hall that takes a single and very little else. The staircase decides the work more than the rooms do. A quarter turn with a winder at the top and a low bulkhead over it means a large mattress will not come down on edge without dragging along the ceiling, so we clean it in the room it lives in and the frame stays assembled. Most of this work here is an owner occupier's own bed rather than a let, frequently the one bought when the house was, which is why the useful conversation about what will clear and what will only lighten belongs at the start of a visit rather than at the end of it.
Daybrook sits in NG5, under Gedling Borough Council. Daybrook sits at the bottom of the Mansfield Road dip, where the brook that named it runs under the road. Water and grit come downhill to it, so front paths, thresholds and door tracks carry more than the houses further up the same road do, and gardens stay soft late into spring.
What we run into on Daybrook mattress cleaning jobs
Standing the divan base on edge is the point at which the visit stops being about the mattress. The platform of a two piece base is woven fabric over a frame, and years of what has worked down through the mattress is lying on it as a grey felt, thickest along the join where the linking bars sit. Underneath, the castors have pressed four sockets into the carpet deep enough to hold dust of their own, and a base with drawers carries a strip of it along each runner. All of that goes through the HEPA vacuum while the base is upright, because once the bed is back down nothing reaches any of it again.
How a Daybrook mattress cleaning job actually runs
Two sorts of booking come in for this and they want different days. A household is booking its own bed, usually alongside something else, and a morning is the right slot so the room has the rest of the day with a window open before anyone has to sleep in it. A landlord is booking between tenancies, where the mattress is a listed item and it has to be back in service before the check in, and there the constraint is drying rather than cleaning. Say which you are when you book, because they are scheduled differently. Access is easy in the semis and awkward in a flat over the parade, where the machine and the hoses come up a shared stair and nothing can be left on the pavement, so we work out of one load and keep the landing clear. The request is the same everywhere else. Clear a working width along at least one long side of the bed and strip the bedding before we arrive, because a mattress that has to be walked around is a mattress cleaned at arm's length.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly interwar bay-fronted semis on the roads off Mansfield Road, a run of older terraces near the brewery site, and postwar and modern infill filling the gaps between them, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Daybrook on the same round as Arnold, Woodthorpe and Sherwood.
What we check on every Daybrook job
In a rear double the bed goes against the party wall because there is nowhere else for it, and one long side is the only one ever properly reached. The mattress shows that. The near border is compressed from years of sitting on it to put shoes on and the piping is grubby from hands, while the far side has never been vacuumed at all, and the seam along it holds a line of fine grey debris packed down into the stitching that a nozzle has to be worked along rather than passed over. The handles are the other giveaway, used twice a year at most, with dust sitting in the webbing behind them. We pull the bed away from the wall to reach the far side, treat both borders and the seams as their own piece of work, and take the wall line and the skirting behind the headboard while everything is off the wall, since that is the one moment in a decade when it is reachable.
What the mattress cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The rest of the bed: Skirting and the wall line behind the headboard
- Stains and odour: Cold treatment for protein: blood, sweat, milk and vomit
- The rest of the bed: The gap behind and under the bed, which nothing reaches once the frame is in place
- The mattress itself: Air movement across the surface before we leave
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What mattress cleaning costs in Daybrook
Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£40 to £70
Typical per mattress in Daybrook. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per mattress |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Cot or child's mattress | £15 to £30 |
| Single | £25 to £45 |
| Double | £40 to £70 |
| King | £50 to £85 |
| Super king | £60 to £100 |
One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Divan base or headboard, each | £25 to £50 |
| Set stain treatment, per area | £10 to £30 |
| Deodorising treatment | £10 to £25 |
| Second and later mattresses, same visit | 20% to 30% less each |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Do we need to take the bed apart before you arrive?
No, and on these staircases we would rather you did not. We lift the mattress off, work both faces where the room gives us the space, then stand the base on edge to reach the platform and the floor beneath it. What genuinely helps is a clear square metre beside the bed and the bedding stripped in advance. If the base has drawers, emptying them lets us vacuum the interiors while everything is already open.
How soon can the bed be slept in again?
The same evening in almost every case. Far less water goes in than a carpet takes, we run more dry passes than wet ones, and air is moved across the surface before we leave, so the face is dry to the hand when we go and the layer under it follows within a few hours. Leave the bedding off and a window open until evening, and do not refit a protector until the cover is dry right through.
There are old yellow marks on it. Will those come out?
Honestly, they will usually lighten rather than clear, and we would rather tell you that before we start than after you have paid. Perspiration leaves a mineral tidemark and body oils leave a separate stain beside it, and once either has been through years of heat and pressure it has changed the fibre rather than settled on it. What does respond well is the soil, the dust and the smell, and those are what people actually notice.
There is a smell in the room and we cannot place it.
Then it gets traced before it gets treated. Urine needs an enzymatic pre treatment, because a detergent lifts the stain and leaves the uric acid crystals that come back in the first humid week, and a fragrance laid over the top guarantees that. If the source turns out to be inside a mattress that has been soaked through at some point, we will say so. That is a replacement decision rather than a cleaning one and no honest visit pretends otherwise.
Do you cover the whole of Daybrook?
Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Gedling Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does mattress cleaning cost in Daybrook?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Daybrook?
Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Most houses have a drive, though on the older pairs it is one narrow strip and usually already occupied, and we group Daybrook with Arnold, Woodthorpe and Sherwood on the rota.
