Mattress Cleaning for Top Valley homes
Beds stay where they are. The second bedroom takes a double and nothing else, the third is a genuine box room, and neither has the floor to stand a mattress on its side. So it is worked flat, in the morning, with air moving.
Room size sets the method here more than the mattress does. On the plans that repeat across this estate the main bedroom takes a double bed, a wardrobe and very little else, the second takes a double with just enough floor to walk one side of it, and the third is a genuine box room over the hall. None of those gives you space to stand a mattress on its side and work it like a piece of furniture in a showroom. So the job happens flat, on the base, with one long side kept clear and the bed moved out from the wall rather than out of the room. Owner occupiers of long standing and private lets both come up, and they want different things.
Top Valley sits in NG5, under Nottingham City Council. Houses were laid out to keep cars away from front doors, so the road you drive down often faces back gardens and the address you want is along a footpath. Everything that comes into a job here, kit, machines, waste, gets carried further than it looks on a map.
What we run into on Top Valley mattress cleaning jobs
The find that repeats is on the underside, along the edge that sits against the outside wall. Lift the mattress and there is grey speckling on the ticking within a hand's width of that edge, sometimes matched by a bloom on the divan platform beneath it. That is condensation rather than spillage. The wall is cold, the bedroom is unheated through the working day, and a mattress pressed hard against it has nowhere to give up moisture. Cleaning lightens the surface of it. What actually stops it coming back is standing the bed a few inches off the wall and letting air get behind the headboard, which costs nothing.
How a Top Valley mattress cleaning job actually runs
Everything for this job goes upstairs and stays there until it is finished, which on a straight flight is manageable but means arriving with what is needed rather than fetching it. Sockets are the practical catch. Bedrooms on these plans got one double socket and no more, usually on the wall the bed stands against and therefore behind the headboard, so an extension lead from the landing is standard rather than a sign of something going wrong. The window is the other thing we look at on arrival, because air across the surface is what finishes the job and a bedroom that opens onto the sheltered side of the house behaves differently from one that does not. Timing is straightforward for households with children, since the middle of the day is when the beds are free and the house is quiet. For a let it is worth being deliberate: a mattress cleaned the morning before a check in has the day to finish, whereas one done in the afternoon is still giving up moisture when somebody arrives to inspect it and make the bed up.
Who books it here
The housing here is mostly 1970s estate housing put up in one programme, semis and short terraces set in culs-de-sac and pedestrian greens off a handful of distributor roads, with rear parking courts and scattered later infill, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
We run Top Valley on the same round as Bestwood, Rise Park and Bulwell.
What we check on every Top Valley job
A double divan here almost always came upstairs in two halves, because the turn at the top of the flight will not take a base in one piece, and it has stayed clipped together ever since. That join is the find. The halves are held by a pair of linking clips or by nothing at all, and the gap between them runs the whole length of the bed with the mattress bridging it. Everything that works down through a mattress over the years ends up in there: grit walked in, hair, dust and the occasional coin, with a fine grey deposit along both inner faces of the fabric. Nobody has looked at it since the bed was put together, because getting to it means lifting the mattress off first. So it gets vacuumed out while the mattress is already off rather than afterwards. On an ottoman or a drawer base the same material collects in the runners, which is what makes a drawer stiff long before anything is broken.
What the mattress cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Stains and odour: Mineral tidemarks from perspiration treated separately from the body oils beside them
- The mattress itself: Low moisture agitation, with extraction only where the soiling justifies it
- The rest of the bed: Protector or topper handled, washed or refitted as the label allows
- The rest of the bed: Divan base sides and top platform vacuumed and spot cleaned
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full mattress cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What mattress cleaning costs in Top Valley
Mattress cleaning, priced by bed size. A mattress added to a carpet booking costs less, because the call-out is already covered. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£40 to £70
Typical per mattress in Top Valley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per mattress |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Cot or child's mattress | £15 to £30 |
| Single | £25 to £45 |
| Double | £40 to £70 |
| King | £50 to £85 |
| Super king | £60 to £100 |
One mattress on its own is priced at the minimum call-out, not at the size row in the table, because the visit costs the same whether it cleans one bed or four. Two or three mattresses in a single booking is the point at which the per mattress rate starts to apply.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Divan base or headboard, each | £25 to £50 |
| Set stain treatment, per area | £10 to £30 |
| Deodorising treatment | £10 to £25 |
| Second and later mattresses, same visit | 20% to 30% less each |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
The bed nearly fills the room. Can it still be done properly?
Yes, and most bedrooms here are worked exactly that way. What we need is one long side and the foot clear enough to reach every seam, which usually means pulling the bed away from the wall for the visit and putting it back afterwards. The head end against a wardrobe is the awkward part and it takes longer rather than being skipped. If a room is genuinely impassable, we will say before booking rather than on the day.
How long before the bed can be made up again?
Several hours in a warm room, longer in one that is cold all day, which describes most bedrooms on this estate in winter. Less water goes in than a carpet takes, and we leave air moving across the surface before we go. The thing that undoes it is putting a fitted protector or a sheet back over a mattress that is not quite dry, because that traps what is left in the surface.
It is a let. The tenant goes on the Friday and somebody moves in on the Monday. Is that enough time?
Comfortably, given a morning slot on the Friday or the Saturday. Less water goes into a mattress than into a carpet and we leave air moving over it, so the weekend is more than the surface needs. The harder conversation is whether cleaning is the right answer at all. A mattress that has collapsed on one side or carries deep set tidemarks will look better and still be at the end of its life, and we would rather say that before you book.
There is a smell in the room and we cannot work out where it comes from.
It gets traced before anything is applied, because treating the wrong surface simply moves the problem. The source is often not the face of the mattress at all: it can be the divan platform underneath, the carpet in the gap alongside the bed, or a protector that has been washed but never dried properly. Urine needs an enzyme treatment rather than a detergent, because detergent lifts the stain and leaves the crystals that bring the smell back in the first humid week.
Do you cover the whole of Top Valley?
Yes, all of NG5 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does mattress cleaning cost in Top Valley?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is how many mattresses go in one visit, the bed sizes, and whether anything needs treating rather than just extracting. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start mattress cleaning in Top Valley?
Within a week, and we would rather bring it alongside a carpet booking than make a separate journey for one bed. Parking is rarely the problem; reaching the door is, and we group Top Valley with Bestwood, Rise Park and Bulwell on the rota.
