Oven Cleaning for Lenton homes

Kitchens here were fitted during licensing refits, so the appliance is usually a builders' specification double built under a short worktop, its top cavity used as a grill and never touched. Every one of them is judged in the same June fortnight.

The stock decides the appliance. Very few of these kitchens were designed, they were fitted during a licensing refit, which means a builders' specification double oven dropped into a tall housing at one end of a short worktop run with a separate ceramic hob beside it. The top cavity is nominally a second oven and is used as a grill, which is the part that matters, because a grill cavity gets spattered and then heated and nobody has ever put a cleaner near it. The larger houses on the boulevards that kept an original kitchen occasionally still carry a range in the chimney recess. Timing is the other constant: the appliance is looked at by an inventory clerk, in the same fortnight as every other one on the street.

Lenton sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly almost entirely Victorian and Edwardian terraces converted to shared houses, plus purpose-built student blocks along Derby Road, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Lenton oven cleaning jobs

The plinth under a built under oven is where this job hides. Fat that has run out below the door seal drips onto the chipboard shelf the appliance stands on and onto the floor of the housing, then bakes there every time the oven runs, so it sets hard and brown and it is not in the cavity at all. Draw the oven forward and the housing sides carry the same film at the same height. The second one is the roof of the grill cavity directly above the element, where spatter has carbonised into a stipple fine enough to pass for the enamel finish until some of it comes off.

How a Lenton oven cleaning job actually runs

Scheduling is the whole difficulty. Ovens on these streets get booked into the void, which is the same ten days in late June and early July, and an oven booked inside a whole property clean on the same day is not the same job as an oven booked on its own. If it has been left a year, give it its own slot. The kitchen has to stay free while the cleaner dwells, which in a shared house means telling six people rather than one and in practice means waiting until the last of them has gone. Water is the next thing to check, because racks and runners need repeated hot rinses and the sink in a converted rear kitchen is usually small, shallow and already holding whatever somebody left in it. Parking decides how much kit comes through the door. A soak tank, a heater and the tools for a strip down are more than one carry from a side street, so a permit borrowed from the landlord for the morning is worth arranging when the booking is made rather than on the day itself.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Permit zones across much of Lenton and very little visitor parking. We factor it in, but a drive or a permit genuinely speeds the job up.

We run Lenton on the same round as Radford, The Park Estate and Beeston.

What we check on every Lenton job

A builders' specification appliance is not the oven a manufacturer sells into a family kitchen, and the differences show as soon as the door is off. The inner glass on many of them sits in a plastic clip system nobody intended to be opened repeatedly, so it comes apart once, carefully, and gets inspected rather than forced. The seal is a woven rope in a groove instead of a moulded gasket clipped to the frame, and once that has been soaked it never lies flat again, which is exactly why it is cleaned around. The fan cover is normally a single stainless disc on two screws with a captive nut behind it, and the housing beyond it carries a hard brown deposit no wipe out of the cavity has ever reached. Side runners in these ovens are frequently already bowed, from loaded trays pulled hard while hot, and we point that out before they come out rather than after.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Microwave interior, roof plate, turntable and door seal
  • The oven itself: Interior light lens, fascia, controls and door handle
  • How the job is left: Everything reassembled in the right order, including the glass, and the door checked for closure
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Metal mesh filters degreased in solution, which is the part holding most of the grease

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Lenton property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What oven cleaning costs in Lenton

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in Lenton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Only the bottom oven gets used. Is the top one worth paying for?

In a let house it is usually the worse of the two. A cavity used as a grill takes spatter straight onto a hot roof and a hot element shroud, and because the door is small and the light is poor nobody sees what is on it. A clerk opening both doors will. Price it as part of the same visit rather than deciding room by room.

There is no worktop space. Where do the trays go while they soak?

On the floor, on protection we bring, or out in the yard if the weather allows and the gate is reachable. The worktop run in a converted rear kitchen is short and in a house of six it is already holding a microwave, two kettles and everybody's toaster, so we plan on having none of it and work from a soak tank standing on a sheet.

It has not been cleaned since it was fitted. Can it be done in a normal slot?

Book it as its own job rather than hoping an end of tenancy clean absorbs it. An oven inside a whole property clean gets an hour and is cleaned as it stands. On its own it gets the door apart, the back plate off and the removable parts soaking for as long as the carbon needs, which is a lot longer than an hour and is the difference between a clerk passing it and a clerk photographing it.

The kitchen has a range in the chimney recess. Is that the same booking?

Same method, more of it, and it needs saying at the point you enquire so the right amount of time is set aside. A range has more removable parts, heavier cast iron, and a recess behind and beside it that has generally never been reached. Send a photograph of the whole recess rather than of the front of the appliance, because what is around it decides the day as much as the oven does.

Do you cover the whole of Lenton?

Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in Lenton?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in Lenton?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Permit zones across much of Lenton and very little visitor parking, and we group Lenton with Radford, The Park Estate and Beeston on the rota.
