Oven Cleaning for The Park Estate homes

The cooker sits on the lower ground floor where the scullery was, boxed into cabinetry that was made on site and scribed around it, so the appliance does not slide out onto the floor and the decision about whether it moves at all comes first.

The kitchen in a Park house is rarely where a modern kitchen would be. In a villa still held whole it is down on the lower ground floor, in the rooms built as scullery and larder, with its window looking into a light well rather than at the garden. In a flat it has been fitted into whichever room already had drainage near it. Either way the appliance is built in rather than freestanding, and in the better conversions the cabinetry was made on site and scribed around it, so the oven cannot simply be drawn forward onto the floor. We work out how it comes out, or whether it comes out at all, before a single fixing is loosened.

The Park Estate sits in NG7, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly large Victorian villas in a private conservation estate, many divided into apartments, most with original features intact, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on The Park Estate oven cleaning jobs

What sits behind these ovens is joinery rather than a manufactured housing. A cabinet built in place has a solid back rail and painted fillets packed into the gap on either side, and the appliance rests on a timber bearer instead of adjustable feet, so it is tight in the opening and dragging it forward marks the scribe line down both stiles. Where the run was made for a wider cooker and a narrower one was dropped in later, there is a void behind it holding years of spillage that never reached a surface anyone wipes. That void, not the cavity, is usually what the kitchen smells of.

How a The Park Estate oven cleaning job actually runs

Everything for this job walks in from wherever the vehicle is allowed to stand, which on this estate is a space rather than a driveway, so the carry is longer than the work deserves. Where the kitchen is on the lower ground floor there are usually two ways down to it, the internal stair or the external steps into the area at the front, and the second is better for us and worse for the paintwork in wet weather. Say which you want used. The tank, the trays and the solution come in once and leave once. Inside, we want the extractor switched off, the room to ourselves for the afternoon, and a route for the air, which matters more in a basement kitchen than it sounds, because the ceiling is lower than the rooms above and nothing moves through it on its own. Scheduling is otherwise easier here than in most houses, since these kitchens sit apart from the living rooms and a household can be at home without being in the way. Two appliances get booked together more often here, because a converted kitchen frequently still holds an older cooker left in from the previous fit out.

Who books it here

On the practical side: A private estate with gated entrances and its own parking rules. We need the access arrangement confirmed before the first visit, not on the doorstep.

We run The Park Estate on the same round as Nottingham City Centre, Lenton and Radford.

What we check on every The Park Estate job

Door glass is where a visit like this either pays for itself or does not. On a built under double the inner pane usually releases on two screws behind the top trim, and the haze that has drifted between the panes over years wipes off in a single pass once anyone can actually reach it. On older integrated singles, which are common in these conversions, and on any door where the panes are bonded, the glass does not come apart and we say so before starting rather than charging for a result we cannot deliver. The other thing worth knowing about these kitchens is the plinth. A fitted run standing on a lower ground floor is scribed to a floor laid on the ground that has since moved, so there is usually a gap under the plinth at one end that has been taking spillage for years. It comes off, the void behind it gets vacuumed and degreased, and it goes back on.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • How the job is left: Usable straight away, with no waiting period and no smell on first heat
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Gas hobs: burner caps, crowns, pan supports and the tray underneath, all soaked separately
  • How the job is left: Freestanding cookers pulled out where safe, so the sides and the gap are done
  • The oven itself: Racks, side runners, trays and the grill pan lifted out and soaked, not wiped in place

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What oven cleaning costs in The Park Estate

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in The Park Estate. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Can the oven be pulled out to be cleaned?

Sometimes, and we decide that with the door open and the fascia checked rather than by pulling and hoping. A unit fitted into cabinetry made on site is screwed through the frame into timber, and the surface either side is paint rather than laminate, so it chips at the edge and the chip shows. Where it will not come forward safely we clean it in position and tell you plainly what that leaves unreached.

The hob sits in the old chimney recess. Does that change anything?

It does, because the brickwork and render inside that opening are porous and almost always original. Spitting fat soaks into the face instead of sitting on it, and a caustic product taken to masonry drives the staining deeper and blooms the lime in the joints. We degrease the metal and the splashback, work the masonry dry with a brush and a filtered vacuum, and say when a mark is in the material rather than on it.

The kitchen is in the basement and no window opens. Can it still be done?

Yes, with the door to the stair open and a fan set in it so the air has somewhere to go instead of standing in a low ceilinged room. Products go onto the surface wet rather than being sprayed into the air, and the parts that would smell most leave the room in a sealed tank. What we will not do is work a closed basement kitchen with the household in the next room and no route out for the air, so mention the window when you book.

There are two ovens, one left over from before the conversion. What happens to that?

It gets quoted as its own item and looked at before it is touched. Appliances left in from an earlier fit out are often disconnected, sometimes gas, and now and again holding up the end of a worktop. We do not disconnect anything or move a gas cooker off its bayonet fitting, so if the old one is going out altogether that is a Gas Safe engineer first and us afterwards. If it is staying, it is cleaned like any other.

Do you cover the whole of The Park Estate?

Yes, all of NG7 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in The Park Estate?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in The Park Estate?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. A private estate with gated entrances and its own parking rules, and we group The Park Estate with Nottingham City Centre, Lenton and Radford on the rota.
