Oven Cleaning for Wollaton Park homes

Kitchens at the back of the house with the old chimney recess still open in the wall, holding something freestanding, often a range with two cavities. The recess is wider than the cooker, so grease has set on the plaster reveals either side.

Two cooker types run through this estate and they are not the same job. Where a kitchen has been refitted there is a built in single or double sitting in a tall housing with a cupboard over it. Where it has not, the old chimney recess is still open in the back wall and something freestanding stands in it, quite often a range with two cavities, a grill and a warming oven. A range doubles the number of racks, runners, trays and shelves that have to come out and soak, and the doors are heavy enough that they come off the hinges before the glass can be separated. Say which you have when you book, because the difference between them is hours rather than minutes.

Wollaton Park sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly substantial 1920s and 1930s houses put up as a single scheme, semis and detached, on wide tree lined avenues with generous plots and the same detailing repeating street after street, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Wollaton Park oven cleaning jobs

The recess is nearly always wider than whatever is standing in it, so there is a gap of a few inches down each side between the cooker and the brickwork. Nothing in there has ever been cleaned. Fat thrown sideways off a pan lands on the painted reveal and sets hard, and crumbs, foil and the occasional wooden spoon go down to the floor. The floor under the cooker is usually the original surface with a later covering over it, so a heavy appliance is walked out on its feet with a board under them rather than dragged. The reveals and that floor get done while it is out, because that is the only moment anybody can reach them.

How a Wollaton Park oven cleaning job actually runs

Two things decide the visit here: where the tank stands and how long the kitchen is out of use. The kitchen is at the back of the house, so everything comes in from the drive either through the hall or down the side passage, and it is worth saying at the outset which you would rather. Floor and worktop are sheeted before anything is opened or applied. Allow a couple of hours for a fitted single and appreciably longer for a range, because every cavity, rack, runner and tray is a separate item to soak and the doors come off their hinges before the glass can be separated. The appliance is usable the moment we finish and can be switched on that evening without smoking. Where a heat storage cooker has been fitted, it has to be off and stone cold before anybody touches it, which means shutting it down the day before and planning to be without it for two days rather than one. Most households leave a key and come home to it done.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Nearly every house has a drive, so a space is rarely the issue. Where a verge runs under the street trees we keep off it. The houses sit well back, so equipment comes a fair way in from the gate.

We run Wollaton Park on the same round as Wollaton, Lenton and Lenton Abbey.

What we check on every Wollaton Park job

The other direction grease travels in a recess kitchen is upward. A hood in that opening is nearly always recirculating rather than ducted, because the wall behind it is a chimney stack and nobody wanted to cut through it, so everything the fan lifts off the hob is thrown back into the room through a charcoal cartridge. What you get is a yellow film on the ceiling directly over the cooker and on the lintel above the recess, spreading out in a fan shape that is obvious from the doorway once you know to look for it. The metal mesh filters underneath hold most of it, and they come out and go into solution alongside the racks. Charcoal is a replacement item rather than a cleaning one, so we take the cartridge out, look at how old it is and tell you what fits.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • How the job is left: Everything reassembled in the right order, including the glass, and the door checked for closure
  • The oven itself: Door seal cleaned around rather than soaked, because a saturated seal perishes
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Ceramic and induction: burnt sugar and boil-over taken off with a blade held flat, then polished
  • How the job is left: Floor and worktop protected before anything is opened or applied

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Wollaton Park property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What oven cleaning costs in Wollaton Park

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in Wollaton Park. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Oven Cleaningin Wollaton Park

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

The cooker is freestanding and sits in the old chimney recess. Will you move it?

Where it is safe to, yes. A freestanding electric cooker on a plug comes forward on its feet, and the sides, the reveals and the floor are done while it is out. Gas is different. We do not lift a cooker off its bayonet fitting and we do not disconnect anything hardwired, so where one has never been moved in twenty years that is a job to have a Gas Safe engineer do alongside us rather than something we take on.

There is almost no worktop beside the cooker. Where do the racks and trays go?

Into our own tank, which is the point of bringing one. Racks, runners and trays come straight out of the cavity and into solution rather than being stacked on a surface, so a kitchen with a table in the middle and little fitted worktop is no obstacle at all. The tank stands on sheeting on the floor, or outside the back door on the path when the weather allows. Nothing hot or greasy is put down on your table.

Can it be done while we are out at work?

That is how most of them here are done. We need a key or a code, a working socket and the floor around the cooker clear of anything standing on it. Everything that comes out goes back in the right order before we leave, the door is checked for closure and the seal is left dry rather than saturated, because a soaked seal perishes. You come home to an oven that can be used that evening, with no smell on first heat and no waiting period.

Ours has a pyrolytic cycle. Is there anything left for you to do?

More than people expect. The cycle burns out the cavity and does nothing whatsoever for the door glass, the racks and runners, the trays, the fascia, the controls or the fan housing behind the back plate, and between them those are most of what you actually look at. We leave the pyrolytic enamel itself alone, since caustic and scouring both ruin it, and do everything the cycle cannot reach. Run the cycle first if you like, then let us in.

Do you cover the whole of Wollaton Park?

Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in Wollaton Park?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in Wollaton Park?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Nearly every house has a drive, so a space is rarely the issue, and we group Wollaton Park with Wollaton, Lenton and Lenton Abbey on the rota.
