Oven Cleaning for Strelley homes
Two cooker populations either side of the carriageway. Estate kitchens take a built under single with no worktop free to stand hot racks on, and the village runs to a range stood in the old chimney opening with bare brick either side of it.
Which cooker you have here depends on which side of the carriageway you are. The estate kitchens were built narrow, most now take a built under single with a hob above it, and the problem is not the appliance but the room: there is one run of worktop, the drainer is already on it, and a set of hot racks and a grill pan have nowhere to land. Ours go straight out to the heated tank in the van rather than being stacked on your only clear surface. In the village the cooker is usually a range, and it is standing in the opening the original fireplace left behind, with bare brick up both sides of it and a tiled hearth underneath. That is half a day rather than an hour and a half, and it is quoted as one.
Strelley sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly postwar city estate semis and short terraces along Strelley Road and Flamsteed Road, newer housing around Princess Boulevard, and a small group of listed brick and clay tile cottages in the village itself, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Strelley oven cleaning jobs
The recess is the part people have stopped seeing. Brick and lime mortar either side of a range absorb what comes off a pan, so the faces you can reach at arm's length carry a soft brown deposit that has soaked in rather than settled on top, and nothing takes that back out of open brickwork. What we can do is the cooker, the hearth and the gap. That gap, a couple of finger widths between the appliance body and the brick, has no plinth and no housing hiding it, and it holds fallen crumb, hardened fat and the occasional utensil going back years. It comes out with a thin tool and extraction before anything wet is opened.
How a Strelley oven cleaning job actually runs
Book a range and a single as different jobs, because that is what they are. The dip tank runs in the van, so wherever the van stands is where the racks and trays go, and on the village lane that means somewhere it can sit for several hours without shutting the road for everyone else. Tell us the make and model at the booking. It decides whether the door comes apart, and on the budget appliances fitted to a landlord specification the inner pane is sometimes bonded in, which we would far rather say on the phone than on your kitchen floor. We need hot water at the tap and a working socket. On the estate that is never an issue. In the cottages there are frequently two sockets in the whole kitchen and both are behind something. The floor matters more here than almost anywhere else we work, because caustic runoff on an unsealed quarry tiled hearth leaves a pale patch that does not come back, so sheeting and a tray under the door go down before a bottle is opened. Shut the dog out for the duration and keep children away while parts are in solution.
Who books it here
On the practical side: The estate half is easy: wide roads, verges, garage courts behind the terraces and off-street space at many properties. The village half is the opposite, with narrow lanes, no footway in places, and nowhere to park outside a cottage without blocking a gateway.
We run Strelley on the same round as Bilborough, Aspley and Wollaton.
What we check on every Strelley job
The doors are where the real difference shows. A range door is heavy, double glazed and vented along the top of the frame, and that vent is how grease gets between the panes: it rises, condenses on the cooler outer pane and runs down inside the sandwich, where nothing done from the kitchen side ever reaches it. Where the retaining strip and clips are designed to come out, the panes are separated, both faces of each are cleaned and it goes back orientated the way the maker set it. On the estate singles the equivalent is behind the back plate. Take the screws out and the fan housing is carrying more baked fat than the whole of the cavity you have been looking at through the door, because that is where the hot air has been circulating it for years. Neither of those is reachable in the hour an oven gets inside a whole property clean.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Metal mesh filters degreased in solution, which is the part holding most of the grease
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Charcoal filters checked and reported, since those are replaced rather than cleaned
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Microwave interior, roof plate, turntable and door seal
- How the job is left: Floor and worktop protected before anything is opened or applied
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Strelley property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What oven cleaning costs in Strelley
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Strelley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Can a range sitting in a chimney recess be cleaned where it stands?
Yes, and it stays where it is. Sliding a range forward over a quarry tiled hearth is how a tile gets chipped and how the feet score the floor, so the cavity, the doors and the plates are all done in place and only the removable parts leave the room. The sides of the appliance get whatever the recess allows, which we show you at the start rather than describe afterwards.
How long is the cooker out of use for?
It has to be off and stone cold before we start, so the evening before is the last meal out of it. On a single that costs you an hour or two of the morning. On a range it is most of a day. Once the rinsing is finished there is no standing time and no smell on first heat, so you can cook in it that night.
Is the oven safe to use straight away, and what about the tiled floor?
Yes, once it has been rinsed properly, which means six or seven passes with clean water rather than a wipe round. Caustic residue left in a corner or around the seal is what smokes the first time the oven heats, and that reads as a job left unfinished. The floor is a separate question and the answer is protection rather than cleaning: sheeting down first, a tray under the door, and nothing allowed to run onto unsealed tile at any point.
Our kitchen is a galley with one worktop. Where does everything go?
Out of the room. Racks, runners, trays, the grill pan and the burner parts go into the heated tank in the van and stay in it while the cavity is treated in place, so your only clear surface is not carrying a stack of greasy shelves for two hours. What stays in the kitchen is a protected area of floor in front of the appliance, and the door panes while they are apart, which are worked on flat rather than propped against a unit where they can slide.
Do you cover the whole of Strelley?
Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Strelley?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Strelley?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. The estate half is easy: wide roads, verges, garage courts behind the terraces and off-street space at many properties, and we group Strelley with Bilborough, Aspley and Wollaton on the rota.
