Oven Cleaning for Compton Acres homes
Kitchens were replaced across the estate in one wave, and on this layout the cooking run backs onto an internal wall, so the hood recirculates through a charcoal cartridge instead of ducting outside. Almost nobody has changed one since the kitchen went in.
Two kitchens exist on this estate and they went in about fifteen years apart. The original one put a built under single oven below the worktop with a gas hob above it. The replacement, which most houses have had by now, moved to a double at chest height in a tall housing with a ceramic or induction top. Both share the same awkward feature, which is where the cooking run ended up. On this plan it backs onto the wall shared with the integral garage or the hall rather than an outside wall, so the extractor above it recirculates through a charcoal cartridge rather than ducting anywhere. That decides what we find, because whatever the filters stop holding goes straight back into the room.
Compton Acres sits in NG2, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly detached and link detached houses put up as a single scheme through the late 1980s and 1990s, four and five bedrooms, brick with integral or attached garages, open lawns and no front walls, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Compton Acres oven cleaning jobs
The tall housing is where a built in oven quietly damages the kitchen. It is a chipboard carcase with a foil wrap, and the flange of the appliance never seals against it, so fat runs down the gap at either side and hardens on the raw board edge behind the trim. Where that has gone on for years the edge has swelled and the wrap has lifted, and no cleaner puts that back. We take the plinth off, draw the appliance forward on its runners where the fixings allow, and do both faces of that gap. On the doors we ask the model before the day, because the earlier ovens here usually have the inner pane bonded in.
How a Compton Acres oven cleaning job actually runs
The oven has to be stone cold, and that is the one thing worth arranging before anything else. Cold means overnight rather than an hour, so a Sunday roast rules out a Monday morning slot, and it is better said at booking than discovered on the doorstep. After that this is an easy estate to work in. The van goes on the drive, so the tank and the racks come off it within a few paces of the kitchen door, and the soaking tank wants somewhere flat and out of the way for as long as the job runs. The garage is the right answer here, straight through the connecting door, rather than the frontage, which is open to the road and in view of every car going past. We need a hot tap and a socket, and we need the kitchen to ourselves while product is sitting on surfaces, so pets and small children elsewhere for the morning. Bookings cluster hard from the middle of November onwards, and the week before Christmas is usually gone by the end of October.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Short block paved drives open onto the pavement, so the van gets clear of the road easily. Entry is usually the door from the garage rather than the front, which means a remote or a side door key, and the alarm keypad sits behind it.
We run Compton Acres on the same round as West Bridgford, Edwalton and Gamston.
What we check on every Compton Acres job
Take the mesh filters out of one of these recirculating hoods and their weight tells the story before anything else does. A saturated filter has stopped filtering, so everything after it has been going onto the fan, and inside the canopy the scroll and the blade edges carry the same hard amber varnish that the back of an oven does. What leaves the hood after that lands on the room. There is usually a band of tack along the tops of the wall cupboards either side of it and a faint yellow ring on the ceiling above the hob, with a sharper edge to it than steam would leave. Behind the mesh is a charcoal cartridge, and in most houses on this estate it is still the one the kitchen fitter put in. Charcoal is not cleanable and it is not optional either, because it is the only thing standing between the hob and the room.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Ceramic and induction: burnt sugar and boil-over taken off with a blade held flat, then polished
- The oven itself: Racks, side runners, trays and the grill pan lifted out and soaked, not wiped in place
- The oven itself: Cavity roof, floor, sides and back, treated and left to dwell rather than scoured
- How the job is left: Freestanding cookers pulled out where safe, so the sides and the gap are done
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Compton Acres
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Compton Acres. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Our extractor does not vent outside. Is it worth cleaning?
Yes, and it is usually the dirtiest thing in the kitchen. A recirculating hood has a metal mesh filter that can be degreased in solution and a charcoal cartridge behind it that cannot, because charcoal is replaced rather than washed. Once the mesh is saturated the grease carries past it onto the fan and the scroll, and from there it is blown back out into the room you are standing in.
The kitchen is being replaced next month. Should the oven be cleaned first?
Only if the appliance is going back in. If it is, have it done while it is out of the housing, because that is the one moment the sides, the back and the top of it are reachable at all, and a clean appliance goes into a new kitchen without carrying the old one's grease with it. If it is being taken away for disposal, do not spend anything on it.
The extractor is loud and does not seem to pull much. Will cleaning fix it?
Some of it. A mesh filter loaded solid with grease is a restriction, and degreasing it in solution genuinely restores airflow, which is usually the change people notice most. If it is still weak after that, you are looking at either a spent charcoal cartridge or the motor, and neither of those is a cleaning job. We will tell you which we think it is and what size cartridge the canopy takes, rather than cleaning the same thing twice and charging you for it.
Can it be done while we are out?
Yes, and on this estate that usually means letting us in through the garage. We need the arrangement written down before the day: how we get in, whether there is an alarm and who to ring if it sounds, and where the hot tap and a socket are. What we will not do is switch a cooker off ourselves on arrival, because the appliance has to have gone cold in its own time or the products flash off it and the glass streaks.
Do you cover the whole of Compton Acres?
Yes, all of NG2 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Compton Acres?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Compton Acres?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Short block paved drives open onto the pavement, so the van gets clear of the road easily, and we group Compton Acres with West Bridgford, Edwalton and Gamston on the rota.
