Oven Cleaning for Lady Bay homes
Kitchens sit in the narrow rear addition, so a built under oven comes forward into a gangway with no free worktop beside it. Racks and door panes soak off site, and the extractor ducted through the side wall is the greasier half of the visit.
The kitchen in most of these terraces is the ground floor of the rear addition, one run of units down a single side with the back door at the end of it. The oven is built under the worktop and there is rarely a metre of clear surface anywhere in the room, so the moment the door comes down and the racks come out there is nowhere to stand any of it. That decides how the visit is organised. Removable parts go straight out to soak instead of standing about, the floor is protected before anything is opened, and the cavity, the door glass and the fan housing are worked in place. In the interwar semis the kitchen is squarer and a range will fit, which is a longer job for entirely different reasons.
Lady Bay sits in NG2, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly Edwardian terraces and interwar semis on a short grid of quiet streets, laid out between the river and the flood embankment, with bay fronts, tunnel entries between pairs and very little later infill, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Lady Bay oven cleaning jobs
The extractor is the surprise. Most of the hoods here have been ducted out through the side wall of the addition rather than recirculating, and that duct run is short, cold and close to horizontal. Fat condenses in it within the first foot and drains back toward the hood, and the louvred grille on the outside face of the wall is usually stuck shut with a black waxy deposit that has set hard enough to need a blade. The mesh filters above the hob carry the rest of it. None of that is baked carbon, so none of it responds to what the cavity needs. It comes off with heat and solution rather than dwell time.
How a Lady Bay oven cleaning job actually runs
The kitchen in a house like this is also the only route to the back door, so it is not a room the household can simply hand over for the morning. An oven in pieces with the floor sheeted and the racks out means nobody is walking through to the yard or the bins, and on a mid terrace there is no other way to the back at all. We agree that at the start and work in an order that keeps the doorway usable where the job allows it. Timing is the other half. Removable parts go out to the van to soak and come back once the cavity has had its dwell, so the visit runs to the chemistry rather than to the clock, and it is not one to book into the last hour before a school pick up. Parking is on the street and unallocated, so we may be a few doors along, which matters only because it lengthens the carry for the trays and the door panes. Where the cooker is freestanding we pull it out if that is safe to do, and a gas cooker on a bayonet fitting stays exactly where it is.
Who books it here
On the practical side: One way in over the bridge and a grid that leads nowhere else, so the streets stay quiet and a space is usually there. Getting out is harder: fixtures across the water close the crossings, so we set start times against the published dates.
We run Lady Bay on the same round as West Bridgford, The Meadows and Sneinton.
What we check on every Lady Bay job
The ceiling above the cooker tells you what the extractor has been missing. A back addition has a low lean to roof, so the ceiling sits closer to the hob than it does anywhere else in the house, and the fat that never reached the hood lands on it. What builds up is nothing like the black carbon in the cavity. It is a yellow varnish, even across the whole area, and it goes soft and slightly tacky whenever the oven has been running, so emulsion takes it up rather than shedding it. A wet cloth passed over it cold smears it. Warm the room a little first and the same cloth lifts it in one pass. There are usually drift marks down the wall behind the hob where the film has got heavy enough to move, and the grout between the tiles has taken the colour of it, which is a slower and separate job from the tile faces.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- How the job is left: Usable straight away, with no waiting period and no smell on first heat
- The oven itself: Racks, side runners, trays and the grill pan lifted out and soaked, not wiped in place
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Extractor canopy inside and out, and the grease trap where there is one
- How the job is left: Existing damage photographed and pointed out before we start, not after
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Lady Bay
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Lady Bay. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Our kitchen is the width of the back addition. Do you need it emptied?
The worktop and the floor, and the more of both the better. There is no spare surface in a room this shape, so we work off the floor and anything standing on it has to move regardless. The units themselves can stay shut. What genuinely helps is a clear route from the front door through the hall, because the racks, trays and door panes go out to the van to soak and come back the same way.
Can the door glass really come apart in a kitchen this size?
Yes, because a door needs a flat protected surface rather than floor space, and we bring one. The panes come out on models where the clips or the retaining strip allow it, get cleaned away from the appliance, and go back in the right order with the closure checked before we leave. Where a door is bonded or has to be stripped to reach the inner face, you are told at the start rather than afterwards.
Should the hood and the outside grille be done at the same time as the oven?
If the duct goes out through the wall, yes, and it is the part that changes the smell of the room rather than the look of it. The filters and the canopy are priced as their own items alongside the oven, and doing them in the same visit costs far less than a separate call because the solution and the heat are already on site. What we will not do is take a duct apart inside the wall. That is a fitter job and we will say so.
How do we keep it usable between visits with a kitchen this small?
Wipe the cavity while it is still warm from cooking rather than cold, because at that point the fat has not yet polymerised and comes off with a cloth. Use the hood every time you cook, not just when something smokes, and wash the mesh filters in hot water with a degreaser every few weeks. That is what determines whether the annual clean is a straightforward one or a two application job, and in a room this size the difference is a whole morning.
Do you cover the whole of Lady Bay?
Yes, all of NG2 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Lady Bay?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Lady Bay?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. One way in over the bridge and a grid that leads nowhere else, so the streets stay quiet and a space is usually there, and we group Lady Bay with West Bridgford, The Meadows and Sneinton on the rota.
