Oven Cleaning for The Meadows homes
Galley kitchens with one worktop run and the cooker at the end, so there is nowhere to stand a hot shelf. Racks and trays go out to the soak tank in the van, and the van is a walk away from most front doors.
The kitchens on the redevelopment side were planned around a single worktop run with the cooker at the end of it, and that fixes what the appliance is. A built under single oven with a four ring electric hob above it is the standard fitting. An eye level double is rare, because there is no stretch of wall to hang one on, and in the let houses a freestanding slot in cooker has usually replaced what the kitchen was built with. The layout also fixes the working space. Once the hob is covered there is no clear surface left for a shelf coming out of a hot cavity, so the first thing we do is build somewhere to put things down. A freestanding cooker comes forward too, since the gap either side of it holds more than the cavity does.
The Meadows sits in NG2, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly low-rise redevelopment from the 1970s and 1980s, laid out around pedestrian walkways and rear parking courts, with older terraces surviving toward Queens Drive and flats and maisonettes near Bridgeway, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on The Meadows oven cleaning jobs
Single ovens in these kitchens nearly all carry the grill element in the roof of the same cavity, and that roof is where the worst of the carbon is. Fat is thrown upward under a high element and bakes on the spot, out of the light and above the line anybody looks along when they wipe. It takes the longest dwell of anything in the appliance. The other repeat is underneath. A built under oven sits above a kick plate that clips off, and years of whatever has run down the front of the door is on the floor behind it, where a mop has never been.
How a The Meadows oven cleaning job actually runs
Book this as a fixed slot rather than a call out window, because the setting up either side of the work takes longer here than it does on a street with a drive. The van goes into the court behind the block and the kit comes round on foot: tank, chemicals, sheeting, hand tools. That is one trip in and one trip out, so we would rather know beforehand which door you want us at and whether the court has room to stand a vehicle for a couple of hours. Indoors the requirements are dull and specific. Power for the vacuum and the lamp, hot water at the kitchen tap, and the floor in front of the appliance clear so the sheeting lies flat. A single oven with the hob is most of a morning. Add a slot in cooker that has to be drawn out of a fitted run and it runs longer, because the units either side get protected before anything moves. Let properties are far easier between tenancies than around a tenant's working day, and if an agent is booking it, the meter and the water need to still be on.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Park in the rear court and walk round, because the road the address belongs to and the door you knock on are often on opposite sides of the block. A photograph of the entrance saves us circling. Forest fixtures fill the streets nearest the river.
We run The Meadows on the same round as Nottingham City Centre, Wilford and West Bridgford.
What we check on every The Meadows job
Door glass is the part that shows and the part people assume is stained rather than dirty. On most of these appliances the door is two panes with an air gap, and the brown haze taken for scorched glass is grease that crept in at the top corners along the vent path and settled on the inside face. The door comes off its hinges, the inner pane releases, both faces get cleaned dry, and it goes back with the seal seated and the closure checked. A slot in cooker often has a third pane and a drop down panel behind the fascia as well. The hob beside it is the other thing worth twenty minutes. A ceramic top with sugar boiled onto it wants a blade held flat rather than a pad, because a scouring pad puts a permanent scatter of fine scratches into the surface, and those catch the light for the rest of the appliance's life.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- The oven itself: Door glass separated where the panes come out, so the space between them is cleaned
- How the job is left: The housing the oven sits in, and the plinth below it
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Charcoal filters checked and reported, since those are replaced rather than cleaned
- The oven itself: Rinsed repeatedly, so nothing smokes the first time you use it
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your The Meadows property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What oven cleaning costs in The Meadows
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in The Meadows. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
We rent, and the oven belongs to the landlord. Can we book a clean ourselves?
Yes. Cleaning an appliance is not an alteration to the property and needs nobody's permission, and on a let it is normally the tenant who gets judged on the state of it at the end. What you should not be paying for is a repair. A door that will not seal, a failed element, a fan that has started to whine or a cracked inner pane are all the landlord's to sort out, and we will say which of the two you have before starting.
Where do the racks and trays actually get soaked, if there is nowhere to park outside?
In a heated tank in the van, which stands in the nearest court, and the parts travel there and back in a covered carrier. Nothing caustic gets set down on a shared surface where children and dogs are going past. If the walk round the block is long enough to make that silly, the alternative is a lined tray working in your kitchen with the floor sheeted, which takes a little longer and never leaves the room.
We are in a flat near Bridgeway. Can you still do it?
Yes. The cooker in a flat here is usually a slot in with a single oven, which is a straightforward job. The difference is the carry, since everything comes up a shared stair rather than in through a door on the level, so we bring a covered carrier instead of walking hot components up in the open. Tell us the floor and whether the entry phone is working, because a locked stair door and nobody answering wastes the slot for both of us.
Will it smoke or smell the first time we use it?
It should not. Smoking after a clean means product left behind in the cavity, and the way that is avoided is repeated rinsing until the water coming off the surface is clear rather than cloudy. The same goes for the fan housing and the back plate, which is where residue hides if anybody has hurried. You can cook on it that evening. If you do get a smell on first heat, ring us, because that is something to come back and put right rather than something to explain away.
Do you cover the whole of The Meadows?
Yes, all of NG2 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in The Meadows?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in The Meadows?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Park in the rear court and walk round, because the road the address belongs to and the door you knock on are often on opposite sides of the block, and we group The Meadows with Nottingham City Centre, Wilford and West Bridgford on the rota.
