Oven Cleaning for Edwalton homes
Built in ovens in tall housing units on the 1960s and 1970s estates, ranges in the rebuilt rear extensions, and island hoods on the newest houses that recirculate through charcoal instead of ducting outside. The island is usually the only clear surface in the room.
The kitchen decides this more than the cooker does. On the 1960s and 1970s estates the oven sits in a tall housing at chest height in a long run of fitted units, which is comfortable to work on and leaves you nowhere to stand anything, because the worktop either side is short and already occupied. In the houses whose rear has been opened up, the cooking has moved to an island or to a range against what used to be the outside wall, and the island then becomes the only clear surface in the room. The newest houses below the wood run a single built under oven with an induction hob above it, which is the quickest of the three and the one most often left the longest.
Edwalton sits in NG12, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly large interwar detached houses along Melton Road, 1960s and 1970s estates of four and five bedroom detached properties, a small old village core, and new estates on the southern edge, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Edwalton oven cleaning jobs
Where a soaked rack is allowed to stand gets settled before anything comes out of the appliance. Island and peninsula tops in these kitchens are usually quartz or another resin bound composite, and a caustic gel left sitting on one dulls the resin at the surface in a way no amount of polishing brings back. So the run beside the cooker is covered first and everything hot lands on a board rather than on stone. The recurring find is the underside of the shelf inside the oven housing, immediately above the door, which takes the grease that rolls off the top of the door every time it is opened and which nobody has ever seen.
How an Edwalton oven cleaning job actually runs
This is the one visit where the appliance has to be stone cold, which sounds trivial until it meets how these households actually run. In a house where the kitchen is also the room everybody sits in, an oven switched off from the night before is a real imposition, so the morning appointments go first and get booked out first. On a range cooker it means the previous evening rather than a couple of hours. Getting the van close is straightforward once cars are off the drive, since the tank and the parts carrier both have to come to the door without crossing a lawn. The thing worth settling in advance is the rest of the kitchen, because the work is priced per appliance rather than per room. A five burner gas hob with cast supports, a separate warming drawer and a microwave built into the same tower are three items, not one, and nobody wants that conversation once the oven is already in pieces on a dust sheet. Where the cooking has moved to an island, say so when you book, because the hood above it is the slowest part of the room.
Who books it here
On the practical side: Drives on almost everything, often block paved and long, which sounds easy and means the van sits well back from the door. Tell us if the working entrance is the back door through the utility, because on these houses it usually is.
We run Edwalton on the same round as West Bridgford, Gamston and Ruddington.
What we check on every Edwalton job
The gap beside a built in oven is where the evidence sits. A tall housing is a standard width and the appliance is slightly narrower, so there is a finger's width of void down each side between the oven case and the cabinet, and warm air carrying vaporised fat has been rising through it for years. Take the trim off and the chipboard edge of the cabinet is dark and tacky, holding a film of dust that appears on no specification anywhere and is exactly why a kitchen smells of old cooking when nothing in it looks dirty. That gets a degreaser on a cloth rather than anything wet, because a raw chipboard edge swells once and never goes back. The plinth under a built under oven tells the same story lower down, where the cooling vent pushes warm greasy air out at floor level all evening and lays a band of it along the plinth and the first row of tiles.
What the oven cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Microwave interior, roof plate, turntable and door seal
- How the job is left: Existing damage photographed and pointed out before we start, not after
- How the job is left: The housing the oven sits in, and the plinth below it
- How the job is left: Usable straight away, with no waiting period and no smell on first heat
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What oven cleaning costs in Edwalton
Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£45 to £80
Typical per appliance in Edwalton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical per appliance |
|---|---|
| Single oven | £45 to £80 |
| Double oven, or oven and separate grill | £70 to £110 |
| Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm | £80 to £130 |
| Aga or heat storage cooker | £100 to £200 |
| Hob, gas or ceramic | £10 to £30 |
| Extractor hood | £15 to £30 |
The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Microwave | £15 to £30 |
| Extra grill pan or set of racks | £5 to £10 |
| Heavy soiling, an oven left for years | £20 to £30 on top |
| Several appliances in one visit | Usually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
We have a recirculating hood over the island. Is that cleaned the same way?
Not quite, because it is not vented outside. A recirculating hood pulls air through a metal mesh filter, then through a charcoal cartridge, then pushes it back into the room. The mesh degreases in solution like any other. The charcoal is replaced rather than cleaned, and once it is saturated the hood stops holding anything, which is when grease starts showing up on the ceiling and on the roof glass above the island.
The oven is in a tall unit. Does it come out?
It stays where it is. A built in oven is held in the housing by screws through the trim into the cabinet sides and wired to a switched connection behind the unit, so drawing it forward is an electrician's job rather than a cleaner's. Everything that matters comes out through the front instead: the door and its panes, the racks and side runners, and the back plate where the model allows it.
It is our only oven and we cook every night. How long is it out of use?
From cold when we arrive to usable when we leave, so the planning is the evening before rather than the evening after. A single built in oven is a morning, a double most of a day. Once the rinsing is finished there is no standing time and nothing to burn off, and we run it briefly at the end to prove nothing smokes. The part people underestimate is switching it off in good time, not the appointment itself.
Can the hob and the microwave be done in the same visit?
Yes, and it is the sensible way round, because most of an oven clean is waiting rather than working. While the cavity is dwelling and the racks are sitting in solution, burner caps, pan supports and a microwave turntable go through the same tank at no extra time on site. What cannot be compressed is a charcoal cartridge in a recirculating hood, since that is a part to be replaced rather than cleaned, and all we can do is tell you it needs one.
Do you cover the whole of Edwalton?
Yes, all of NG12 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does oven cleaning cost in Edwalton?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start oven cleaning in Edwalton?
Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Drives on almost everything, often block paved and long, which sounds easy and means the van sits well back from the door, and we group Edwalton with West Bridgford, Gamston and Ruddington on the rota.
