Oven Cleaning for Radcliffe on Trent homes

Two kitchens here. A built under single beneath the hob in the unaltered estate houses, with both bits of worktop already occupied. A wide range pushed into a chimney opening in the villas, boxed in tight on each side.

The village runs to two cooker arrangements and they are different jobs. On the estates the kitchen is often still the original footprint: a built under single oven with the hob directly above it, a short length of worktop either side already carrying the kettle, the toaster and the knife block, and a hard floor beneath the lot. In the older villas and the cottages the cooker is a wide freestanding range or a dual fuel model pushed into what used to be the chimney opening, with a fitted unit hard against both flanks, so the sides and the gap have never been reached. Either way there is nowhere to put a hot rack down, which is why we arrive with our own soaking container and our own protection for the floor.

Radcliffe on Trent sits in NG12, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. The housing here is mostly Victorian and Edwardian villas near the church and the cliff top, older cottages in the centre, interwar and postwar semis behind them, and large estates of detached houses added from the 1960s onward, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.

What we run into on Radcliffe on Trent oven cleaning jobs

The fan back plate is where a decade of Sunday cooking actually ends up in the estate ovens. Four screws take it out, and behind it the blades carry a brown crust sitting heavier on one side than the other, which is the low rattle people long ago stopped noticing. The shroud around it holds a soft carbonised felt no cleaning cycle touches, because the air moving through never slows enough to let anything soak. It is also the answer to a kitchen that smells of last weekend whenever the oven heats from cold, and it goes with a degreaser and a brush rather than anything drastic.

How a Radcliffe on Trent oven cleaning job actually runs

Two practical things get agreed before an oven job in this village. The first is space and water. In the older cottages the kitchen is often the smallest room in the house with one double socket behind the kettle and a shallow sink, so a range with heavy cast pan supports and a full set of trays needs more soaking capacity than the room owns. We bring our own and we need somewhere to stand it, which is usually the floor, and that is why the whole floor gets covered rather than a strip in front of the appliance. The second is the appliance itself. A freestanding cooker is pulled out where it is safe to do so, and on a gas model the bayonet fitting and the restraint chain stay exactly as they are: we clean the sides and whatever of the gap can be reached, and we do not take a gas cooker off its connection for anybody. Built under ovens in the estate kitchens bring their own question, which is whether the housing has been siliconed in at some point, because that decides whether the sides and the plinth are reachable at all.

Who books it here

On the practical side: Streets near the station fill with commuter cars by eight and stay full until evening, so a morning visit there needs somewhere planned for the van. Further out most houses have a drive. Main Road is tight past the shops when deliveries are on.

We run Radcliffe on Trent on the same round as West Bridgford, Gamston and Bingham.

What we check on every Radcliffe on Trent job

Door glass is where the difference between a wipe and a strip down shows, and on the wide range doors in this village it is worth the effort. Those doors carry three panes rather than two, held in a frame that comes apart at the top on clips once the door is off its hinges, and the brown film people can see is on the inner face of the middle pane where nothing has ever reached. From the outside it reads as a permanently dirty oven that has simply given up. Once the panes are separated, cleaned on both faces and put back in the right order and the right way round, the change in the room is out of proportion to the work. Not every model allows it. Where an inner pane is bonded into the door, or the frame is riveted rather than clipped, we say so before starting and clean what is reachable rather than levering at something that will not come apart.

What the oven cleaning covers

A sample of what is included

  • How the job is left: The housing the oven sits in, and the plinth below it
  • The oven itself: Door seal cleaned around rather than soaked, because a saturated seal perishes
  • Hobs, extractors and microwaves, each priced as its own item: Extractor canopy inside and out, and the grease trap where there is one
  • How the job is left: Freestanding cookers pulled out where safe, so the sides and the gap are done

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full oven cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

The cleaner who comes to your Radcliffe on Trent property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.

What oven cleaning costs in Radcliffe on Trent

Oven cleaning is priced per appliance rather than by the hour. Published Nottingham lists sit in the lower half of every range here. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£45 to £80

Typical per appliance in Radcliffe on Trent. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical per appliance
Single oven£45 to £80
Double oven, or oven and separate grill£70 to £110
Range cooker, 90cm to 110cm£80 to £130
Aga or heat storage cooker£100 to £200
Hob, gas or ceramic£10 to £30
Extractor hood£15 to £30

The single oven price is rarely the whole quote. An oven, the hob and the extractor hood together come to roughly £70 to £140, because the second and third items add cleaning time but not another journey. Booking them separately across three visits costs noticeably more than booking them together.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Microwave£15 to £30
Extra grill pan or set of racks£5 to £10
Heavy soiling, an oven left for years£20 to £30 on top
Several appliances in one visitUsually £10 to £20 off, or the smallest item included

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

We have a range with two cavities and the small one is barely used. Is it worth doing?

Usually yes, though not for the reason people expect. A little used cavity holds old grilling spatter rather than roasting soil, and that thin film bakes harder and smells more the moment it is fired. The seal and the interior light lens collect dust rather than fat. The bigger point is the door: a range door is heavy, and if the panes have never been separated then the space between them has years in it. Each cavity is quoted as its own item.

Our worktop is completely full. Where does everything go while you work?

On our own kit rather than yours. Racks, runners, trays and the grill pan come out into a soaking container we bring in, the floor and the fronts of the units are covered before anything is opened, and nothing hot or caustic is set down on a worktop or a hob. In a narrow kitchen that means working from the floor up, so the room is briefly unusable and then handed back with everything in the right order.

The oven is self cleaning. Do we still need this?

A pyrolytic cycle burns the cavity enamel clean and it does that part well. What it does not touch is everything outside the cavity: the door glass and the space between the panes, the seal, the fascia and controls, the racks and runners, which have to come out for the cycle anyway, and the housing the appliance sits in. Nothing caustic goes on a pyrolytic liner or a catalytic panel from us, so the cycle keeps doing its job and we do the rest of it.

How soon can the oven be used afterwards?

Straight away. Everything is rinsed until the water comes off clean, which is the step that decides whether the first heat up smokes or smells, and it is reassembled in order with the door checked for closure before we leave. Where a seal is perished, the glass is chipped or the enamel has gone, we point it out and photograph it at the start rather than at the end. Repair is not ours, but you should know before the appliance is next lit.

Do you cover the whole of Radcliffe on Trent?

Yes, all of NG12 and the surrounding streets, under Rushcliffe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does oven cleaning cost in Radcliffe on Trent?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of appliances rather than the hours, whether it is a single, double or range, and how long it has been since the last one. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start oven cleaning in Radcliffe on Trent?

Usually within a few days, because it is a one visit job that does not need a rota slot building around it. Streets near the station fill with commuter cars by eight and stay full until evening, so a morning visit there needs somewhere planned for the van, and we group Radcliffe on Trent with West Bridgford, Gamston and Bingham on the rota.
