Laundry & Ironing for Sneinton homes

Collection is the awkward half, not the washing. Front doors open onto the footway with no porch to leave a bag in, and a converted house has one street door serving three flats and one address between them.

The households buying this here are mostly the ones with nowhere to dry. A converted flat has no outside space of its own, often no room for a machine beyond a slimline one under the worktop, and in some conversions no machine at all, because the plumbing only ever went into one of the flats. Add renters who move every year or two and are not about to buy a dryer for a property they are leaving, and you have the pattern. The other steady strand is linen for the let stock, counted in and counted back out on a rotation, which is a different job from a household bag and is handled and priced as one.

Sneinton sits in NG2, under Nottingham City Council. The local reference points are Green's Windmill, Sneinton Market and Colwick Woods, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Sneinton laundry & ironing jobs

Bags from a first floor conversion reach us heavier than the same wash from a house, and there is a mechanical reason for it. A washing machine on a suspended timber floor cannot brace itself the way one standing on a ground floor slab can, so it walks, hits its out of balance sensor and drops the spin, and a load that should have come out at high revolutions comes out barely spun at all. That is water we then have to take out with heat and time. It explains a Wednesday return on a Monday collection, and it also explains why the airer in the front room never quite worked.

How a Sneinton laundry & ironing job actually runs

A weekly round only works if the same streets get the same day, and here the day is chosen around three things: kerbside collection, the traffic on the roads nearest the market, and whether an address is a house with its own door or a flat behind a shared one. Houses are simple. Conversions need an arrangement agreed once and then left alone, because a bag handed over a different way every week is a bag that eventually goes missing. Return is the half people think about less. Ironing comes back on hangers under a cover and needs somewhere to hang, which in a one bedroom conversion is often the back of a door rather than a wardrobe, so we ask before hanging rather than folding something you wanted pressed. Linen for a let is booked against the changeover instead of against a weekday, so it moves with the tenancy rather than with the round. If you are new to the round it is worth being in for the first collection, because that is when the count sheet gets set up and when we find out that the third bag was towels.

Who books it here

Rented terraces and flats, so end of tenancy and turnaround work dominates, with a growing number of regular customers in the newer builds toward the city.

We run Sneinton on the same round as Nottingham City Centre, Carlton and West Bridgford.

What we check on every Sneinton job

The count sheet earns its keep in a shared building. Three flats behind one street door means three identical addresses, and the only thing separating one household's washing from another is what is written on the tag and on the sheet. Every item is listed at collection, you keep a copy, and anything already stained, bobbled, holed or missing a button is written down before it leaves, so a mark that arrived with the bag is not one that gets argued over at return. The other thing recorded is whatever must not go in with the rest: school uniform with a name tape in it, workwear somebody wants kept away from the family wash, and anything new and strongly dyed that needs a couple of runs on its own. It takes about half a minute at the door. It is the difference between a service and a favour, and it is worth asking any laundry service to show you theirs before handing over a bag.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Ironing: Returned on hangers under a cover, or folded flat, whichever you ask for
  • Linen, towels and household items: Duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases washed and either pressed or folded flat
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Sorted by colour and fabric, so whites, lights, darks and towels run separately
  • Service wash, charged by weight: An itemised count sheet in the bag, matching the one taken at collection

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What laundry & ironing costs in Sneinton

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Sneinton. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32
Collection and return, per orderFree to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

There is one street door for three flats. How does collection actually work?

By arrangement rather than by leaving a bag in the hall, which in a shared entrance is nobody's property and everybody's problem. What works is a set time when you are in, a neighbour who will take it, or an entry code held against the round. Every bag is tagged with the flat rather than the address, because three bags standing in one hallway all say the same street and the same number.

Can the collection avoid our bin day?

That is exactly how the round is built. Kerbside collection turns a narrow terraced street into a single lane with wheeled bins down both sides of it, so streets get slotted around their collection day rather than in spite of it. Tell us your day when the weekly slot is set up. Where it cannot be avoided we come before the wagon rather than after it, which means an earlier time than you might otherwise be offered.

Can you take a backlog if our machine has broken down?

Yes, and it is the most common first booking we get from a flat. Say roughly how much there is when you ring, because a fortnight of washing for a household is several loads rather than one bag, and it has to be fitted into the round instead of squeezed into an existing slot. Split what you need back quickly from what can wait, label the two, and expect the urgent half first rather than all of it at once.

Do you iron bed linen, and is it worth paying for?

We do, and it is priced separately from clothes because it is slow work: one double duvet cover takes longer than several shirts. Whether it is worth it depends on what the bed is for. In a household, folding straight out of the dryer while everything is still warm gets you most of the way. In a let where somebody is photographing the room or paying to sleep in it, pressed linen is one of the few things a guest notices without being able to say why.

Do you cover the whole of Sneinton?

Yes, all of NG2 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Sneinton?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Sneinton?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Tight on-street parking and narrow entries between terraces, and we group Sneinton with Nottingham City Centre, Carlton and West Bridgford on the rota.
