Laundry & Ironing for Nottingham City Centre homes
No garden, no line, and in the student blocks no machine in the flat at all, only a shared laundry room with a queue on a Sunday. Where there is a machine it sits under a worktop in the one room with a drain.
Two things shape this round in the city and neither one of them is the washing. The first is that a flat has no doorstep. A bag cannot be left out in a communal lobby, a parcel room is for couriers rather than for laundry, and a fob controlled door does not open for a driver, so collection and return happen at an agreed time or through an arrangement the building has already approved. The second is that there is no bin day. Nothing goes to a kerb here, so the rhythm that sets a suburban round simply does not exist, and the slot is built around loading windows and quiet hours instead. That is why a city collection tends to fall earlier in the morning than a suburban one does.
Nottingham City Centre sits in NG1, under Nottingham City Council. The local reference points are the Lace Market, Old Market Square and the Victoria Centre, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.
What we run into on Nottingham City Centre laundry & ironing jobs
Return format matters more here than anywhere else we work. Ironing normally comes back on hangers under a cover, and in a studio with one rail inside a fitted cupboard there is nowhere to put ten of them, so folded flat is the default in this postcode and hangers are the thing you ask for rather than the other way round. The other constraint is the lease. Most of them have something to say about washing hung over a balcony railing or visible from outside, which makes air drying an indoor problem in every one of these flats and explains why the ironing half of this sells better than the wash on its own.
How a Nottingham City Centre laundry & ironing job actually runs
The round runs on a fixed slot and a very short stop. A vehicle at a loading point in NG1 has minutes rather than an hour, so bags need to be made up and by the door before the slot rather than assembled while a driver waits, and where several flats in one core are on the same round they go up in one trip. That is the whole economics of buying this in the city: the washing costs what it costs anywhere, the access is what makes a suburban round cheaper. What people are usually buying is drying rather than washing. The machine in most of these kitchens is a combined unit that will wash a full load and only dry a fraction of it, so a household that washes eight kilos on a Sunday is looking at three separate drying cycles and an airer in the living room for two days. Student blocks run to a different calendar again, with term time weekly slots and nothing at all through the summer. Short lets need counted linen with a fixed exchange, which is a separate rotation rather than a household bag, and the two never travel as one load.
Who books it here
Apartments, short lets and small offices above the retail streets. A lot of Airbnb changeovers, and a lot of one-off deep cleans in flats that have been let furnished.
We run Nottingham City Centre on the same round as The Park Estate, Sneinton and Hyson Green.
What we check on every Nottingham City Centre job
The recurring fault in a flat is the machine rather than the washing, and the smell gives it away before the greying does. An under counter washer in a kitchen with no window, run at thirty degrees with the door shut between loads, grows a biofilm in the folds of the door seal and in the back of the detergent drawer, and every load afterwards picks up a trace of it. Pull the seal back and it is visible as a grey deposit sitting in the lip. A hot maintenance wash with the drum empty, then leaving the door and the drawer ajar, does more than any change of detergent will. On the linen side the recurring one is fabric conditioner on let towels: it coats the fibre, and a coated towel stops absorbing, so guests report them as damp or unwashed when they are neither. Let towels are washed hot without conditioner for that reason, and household towels get the same treatment unless you ask otherwise.
What the laundry & ironing covers
A sample of what is included
- Ironing: Collars, cuffs, plackets and yokes done individually rather than in one pass
- Service wash, charged by weight: Folded and bagged by person or by room if you tell us how the house works
- Linen, towels and household items: School uniform on a fixed weekly slot through term time
- Ironing: Returned on hangers under a cover, or folded flat, whichever you ask for
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What laundry & ironing costs in Nottingham City Centre
Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£2 to £4
Typical cost in Nottingham City Centre. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg | £2 to £4 |
| Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead | 5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25 |
| Washed, dried and ironed, per kg | £6.50 to £9 |
| Ironing only, per kg | £5.50 to £9 |
| Ironing, per hour | £14 to £20 |
| Shirt, washed and ironed | £1.50 to £3 |
A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Duvet, single | £14 to £22 |
| Duvet, double | £18 to £27 |
| Duvet, king or super king | £25 to £32 |
| Collection and return, per order | Free to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Our block has a shared laundry room. Is a collection cheaper than using it?
For one small load, no, and we would rather say so. The machines are already downstairs and already paid for. Where it starts to make sense is a week with bedding, towels and work shirts in it, or a Sunday queue that costs you an afternoon of going up and down with a basket. Count the trips rather than the wash, because the wash was never the expensive part of doing it yourself.
We run two short lets and one long let in the same building. One round?
Yes, kept strictly apart. Let linen is counted as a set and rotated, so it goes back into the property store rather than to a person, while a household bag comes back to that flat door with its own sheet. The two never share a load or a count. Doing them on one slot means a single trip through the building, which is the part of this job the city actually charges you for.
Why does our washing come out smelling stale even though it is clean?
It is usually the machine and the drying rather than the wash. A machine run cool and kept shut in an unventilated kitchen holds residue in the seal and the drawer, and washing that then takes two days on an airer in a warm flat starts to sour before it is dry. Run a hot empty cycle, leave the door open between loads, and if it still comes back, the problem is drying time, which is the thing a collection actually fixes.
We are in a studio and produce one small bag a week. Is that worth collecting?
On its own, honestly, not really, and a machine downstairs will handle it. It starts to add up when bedding, towels and work shirts land in the same week, when ironing is the part you never get to, or when two or three flats in one core go onto the same slot. Splitting one access between neighbours is the difference between this being sensible in the city and being a luxury.
Do you cover the whole of Nottingham City Centre?
Yes, all of NG1 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does laundry & ironing cost in Nottingham City Centre?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Nottingham City Centre?
Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. The constraint, rather than the cleaning, and we group Nottingham City Centre with The Park Estate, Sneinton and Hyson Green on the rota.
