Laundry & Ironing for Aspley homes

Workwear and school uniform rather than a whole household basket. Trade households and the small units off Aspley Lane are most of it, and the honest limit is anything carrying oil, solvent or paint.

This is not an area that outsources the whole family wash, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. What people actually buy here is narrower and more regular. One is workwear, because Aspley Lane and the streets off it carry small industrial and trade premises, and a lot of households have one person coming home in clothing that should never go through the machine the children's things go through. The other is school uniform on a fixed weekly slot through term time. Beyond those there are the items a domestic drum cannot handle honestly, and households where carrying a wet basket has stopped being straightforward. Say which of those you are when you ring, because they want different collection days and different handling.

Aspley sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. The local reference points are Aspley Lane, Melbourne Park and Broxtowe Country Park, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Aspley laundry & ironing jobs

A workwear bag tells you what somebody does before the labels do. Pockets come out first and what falls onto the sorting table is grit, brick dust, screws, an occasional blade and a phone charger, any of which would wreck a drum, so every pocket is emptied and what is in it goes back with the load. The other check is high visibility tape. Retroreflective banding is not built for repeated hot washes or a tumble dryer, and once it has gone dull the garment stops doing the job it is worn for. We wash it to the label, keep it out of the dryer and tell you when a jacket is past it rather than quietly returning it.

How an Aspley laundry & ironing job actually runs

Collection and return decide whether this works on these streets, and the pattern is simple once it is set. Most of the households buying it are out during the day, so the useful arrangement is a fixed weekly slot with somewhere agreed for the bag rather than a call to say we are five minutes away. A porch, the store on the back wall or inside a side gate all work. The front step does not, and we will not leave clean laundry on one. Parking is easy here except on bin day, when the kerb fills up and we stop a few doors along and walk, which is worth knowing if you are watching for the van rather than the doorbell. Weight is confirmed with you at collection before anything is washed, and the count sheet goes into the bag and comes back with it. For school uniform the slot wants to be early in the week rather than late, so anything needing a second wash still has room before Monday. For workwear it wants to be the same day every week, so the household is never down to nothing wearable.

Who books it here

Fortnightly domestic rounds and annual deep cleans. The oven is the single most common reason someone in Aspley rings us for the first time.

We run Aspley on the same round as Bilborough, Bulwell and Hyson Green.

What we check on every Aspley job

School uniform is the most specific thing we handle around here and it has rules of its own. Polo shirts and sweatshirts are polyester or a polycotton mix with a heat pressed or embroidered badge, and an iron laid straight onto that badge lifts or glazes it, so it is pressed from the reverse or worked around. School trousers and skirts in a synthetic mix shine permanently once the iron has been too hot, which is why anything with a sheen on it gets steam from the back rather than weight from the front. Name tapes and marker pen are checked against the count sheet, because a sock with no name in a house with three children is a lost sock. Anything arriving with a broken zip, a hanging button or a tear is set aside and flagged rather than washed, since a drum turns all three of those into a bigger repair than they started as.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Service wash, charged by weight: Non-bio and fragrance-free detergent on request, at no extra cost
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Bags weighed at collection, with the weight and the price confirmed before anything is washed
  • Linen, towels and household items: Pillows and single duvets where the drum size genuinely allows it, said plainly at booking
  • Linen, towels and household items: Bed linen sets for lets, HMOs and holiday flats, cycled on a counted rotation

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What laundry & ironing costs in Aspley

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Aspley. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32
Collection and return, per orderFree to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Questions

Laundry & Ironingin Aspley

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

My work clothes are filthy. Will you take them?

It depends what the dirt is. Mud, dust, cement, grass and ordinary wear are fine and are most of what comes in from around here. What we cannot take is anything carrying oil, solvent, paint or biological contamination, and that is not fussiness. Those need a launderer set up for the run off from them, and putting one pair of overalls like that through a machine contaminates every load after it. Ask us before you fill the bag rather than after.

Can you do the duvets as well?

Singles and some doubles, depending on the drum, and we will tell you plainly at booking rather than take the bag and hand it back. King and super king duvets and feather items of any size we do not take, because a duvet that cannot move freely in the drum comes out wet through the middle and stays that way. That is the same reason yours will not go in a kitchen machine, so it is worth knowing before it takes up a slot.

Can you collect and bring it back the same day?

Not on a service wash, and anyone promising it is either rushing the drying or not sorting the load. Washing at the temperature on each label means separate cycles rather than one, and properly dried is what stops a folded pile smelling by Wednesday. The normal return is the next scheduled visit. Ironing alone can sometimes turn round faster, because there is no drying time in it, so ask about that separately if something is needed for a particular day.

Half the house is in non bio. Does that complicate it?

No, but tell us at booking rather than writing it on the bag. Non bio and fragrance free are available on request, and the practical point is that it has to be flagged before the load is sorted rather than after. It is the same conversation as keeping one person's work clothing apart from everything else, which we do as standard here. Both are decisions made at the sorting table, and the sorting table is the only place they can be made.

Do you cover the whole of Aspley?

Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Aspley?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Aspley?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Straightforward, with on-street parking and drives on many properties, and we group Aspley with Bilborough, Bulwell and Hyson Green on the rota.
