Laundry & Ironing for Wollaton Park homes

Households rather than lets, buying bulk and pressing rather than washing. Linen for four or five mostly king sized beds is several loads before anybody's clothes go in, and the porch does the handover while the house is empty.

Who buys this here is a household rather than a landlord, and what they are buying is bulk and pressing rather than washing as such. Nearly every house has its own machine and a long garden with a line at the end of it. What the machine cannot keep up with is linen for four or five beds, most of them king sized, plus towels for two bathrooms and school uniform through term time. That is several full loads before anybody's clothes go in at all. The other half of the booking is the ironing, because bed linen is slow work and it is the first thing to go in a house with two full time jobs in it.

Wollaton Park sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. The local reference points are Derby Road, Middleton Boulevard, the park gates, and the university campus just south, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Wollaton Park laundry & ironing jobs

The porch does the handover in almost every house on this estate. There is an outer door and an inner one with a tiled floor between them, and that space is dry, out of the wind and out of sight of the road, which is exactly what a bag of clean linen needs when nobody is home before six. It matters more than it sounds. A sealed bag left on an open step through a Nottingham afternoon is a bag of damp washing by the evening, however well the contents were dried. The count sheet goes in the top of the bag and the outer door gets pulled to behind us.

How a Wollaton Park laundry & ironing job actually runs

This runs as a fixed weekly slot and almost all of it happens with nobody at home. We collect from and return to the same agreed place, which in these houses is nearly always the porch inside the outer door, and we need to be told once whether that door is left on the latch or whether there is a key safe. Bags are weighed at the door before anything is taken away, so the weight and the price are confirmed to you rather than discovered later. Every bag goes out with a count sheet in it and comes back with the matching one. Say how the household sorts itself, by person, by room, or everything folded together. Ironing returns on hangers under a cover where there is somewhere to hang it and flat in a bag where there is not, so tell us which. The one thing worth checking is the collection day for the bins, because on a morning when the wheelie bins are out at the kerb the porch is the only sensible place for clean laundry and the doorstep is not. Term time uniform can sit on the same slot each week.

Who books it here

Regular domestic help is most of it, in households where both adults work and the house holds more rooms than the week has evenings. Deep cleans once a year, carpet and upholstery more often than average, and a run of houses let to university staff, which changes hands in September rather than July.

We run Wollaton Park on the same round as Wollaton, Lenton and Lenton Abbey.

What we check on every Wollaton Park job

The bed linen out of these houses is not all modern. Alongside the fitted sheets there is usually a set or two of old flat linen and heavy cotton, hemmed and sometimes initialled, that has been in the family longer than the family has been in the house. It behaves differently at every stage. It is heavier wet than anything else in the bag, it creases hard, and it presses properly only while there is still some moisture in it, so it comes out of the dryer early rather than late and goes under the iron slightly damp. It does not fold to any standard size either, because sheets of that age were cut wider than the beds we put them on now. Those sets are kept together and counted as sets rather than mixed through the rest, and they come back folded flat.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Ironing: Steam on the reverse of anything that shines, and a pressing cloth on wool
  • Ironing: Returned on hangers under a cover, or folded flat, whichever you ask for
  • Ironing: Bed linen and duvet covers, slow work and priced separately from clothes
  • Ironing: Shirts, blouses, trousers, dresses, school uniform and workwear

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What laundry & ironing costs in Wollaton Park

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Wollaton Park. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32
Collection and return, per orderFree to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Questions

Laundry & Ironingin Wollaton Park

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

We have a machine and a garden line. What is actually worth sending out?

The bulky and the slow rather than the everyday. Bed linen for a house this size, towels, and the ironing are what people send, and they keep the daily wash at home. Sheets and duvet covers come back pressed and folded flat, which no domestic drum and airer will match for either speed or finish. If you line dry through the summer and want only the ironing collected, that works as well and is charged per item.

Can our king and super king duvets go too?

The covers yes, the duvets themselves no. A king or super king needs a bigger drum than ours, and a feather one needs far longer drying than any of them get, so a duvet that comes back not quite dry is worse than one that was never washed. Take those to a launderette with a large machine, or have them done once a year by a specialist. Sheets, covers, pillowcases and towels are all fine.

Nobody is here during the day. Where exactly do the bags go?

Wherever you tell us, once, and then it does not change. Most people on this estate use the porch, with the outer door left on the latch or a key safe fitted inside it. Clean laundry goes back bagged and sealed, so it will sit happily in a porch all afternoon, which it will not do on an open step in the rain. We message when we have collected and again when we have returned, with the weight and the count.

Everything comes back in one heap and has to be sorted all over again. Can that be avoided?

Yes, and it costs nothing extra. Tell us how the household divides and we fold and bag to match it, by person or by room, with the bags labelled. Most families here go by bedroom, so what arrives is one bag per room that can be carried straight up and put away. School uniform is worth keeping as its own bag on its own weekly slot through term. Towels and bed linen stay separate from clothing all the way through.

Do you cover the whole of Wollaton Park?

Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Wollaton Park?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Wollaton Park?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Nearly every house has a drive, so a space is rarely the issue, and we group Wollaton Park with Wollaton, Lenton and Lenton Abbey on the rota.
