Laundry & Ironing for Bilborough homes
One machine under the worktop, a narrow kitchen and no utility room, so it is capacity that runs out rather than the weather. Bed linen and towels are the volume, and the round avoids the day the whole street has its bins out.
Who buys this here is a household with one washing machine and nowhere to dry. The kitchens on this stock are narrow, the machine sits under the worktop with a six or seven kilogram drum, and there is no utility room to put a tumble drier in, so a household of five generates more washing in a week than the room can process. That is the gap the service fills, and it runs all year rather than only through winter, because what runs out is capacity rather than good drying weather. Bed linen and towels are the volume, workwear is the awkward part because it has to be kept away from everything else, and school uniform is the fixed weekly item people underestimate until the first week of term.
Bilborough sits in NG8, under Nottingham City Council. The local reference points are Bilborough College, Glaisdale Drive and Harvey Hadden Sports Village, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.
What we run into on Bilborough laundry & ironing jobs
You can tell what has been dried indoors before the bag is opened. Washing that has spent two days on an airer in a heated room comes in with a flat, slightly sour smell that sits in the towels first and the heavy cotton second, and it survives another cool wash because the residue feeding it does not dissolve at thirty degrees. It wants a hot wash with a powder containing bleach for the whites, a longer cycle for the rest, and then proper drying rather than slow drying. We sort for it at collection, because a load put through on the normal programme comes back looking clean and smelling exactly as it went in.
How a Bilborough laundry & ironing job actually runs
Collection is a doorstep transaction of two minutes, which is why the round is built by road rather than by appointment. Bags go from the door into the van, get counted and weighed there, and come back the same way. Nobody being in during the day is normal, so what works is an agreed spot settled at the start: inside a porch where there is one, in a lockable store at the back, or with a neighbour already on the round. We do not leave clean laundry on an open step in the rain. Bin day is the one thing that shapes the diary here. On collection morning the frontages are full of wheelie bins, the kerb is taken and the crew are working the street, so the laundry round runs on a different day, and we set your slot around your collection day when the round is first built. For a let or a room let the pattern is different again. Linen goes out and comes back on a counted rotation, two sets per bed so a turnaround is never held up waiting on the machine, and the keyholder tells us which day the property is empty.
Who books it here
Regular domestic cleaning on a fortnightly rota, and end of tenancy work on the rented stock. Layouts repeat, so quotes here are accurate from a description alone.
We run Bilborough on the same round as Wollaton, Aspley and Bulwell.
What we check on every Bilborough job
Workwear is what decides whether a bag can be taken at all, and the check happens at the doorstep rather than at the machine. A polo shirt or a fleece with a printed or embroidered logo is straightforward: it washes cool and inside out, and it is pressed on the reverse so an iron never touches the print. What cannot go in is anything carrying oil, solvent, paint or biological contamination, because the question is not whether that garment survives but what it leaves in the drum for the next household's towels. Those get named and set aside at collection with a reason, rather than washed and hoped for. The same check catches broken zips and loose buttons, which at spin speed turn into a torn sleeve, and garments with no label left in them, where nobody can say what the fabric will do in water. Each of those goes back with the bag rather than being risked.
What the laundry & ironing covers
A sample of what is included
- Service wash, charged by weight: Non-bio and fragrance-free detergent on request, at no extra cost
- Service wash, charged by weight: Sorted by colour and fabric, so whites, lights, darks and towels run separately
- Linen, towels and household items: Workwear kept apart from household washing, which is the whole point of sending it out
- Linen, towels and household items: Pillows and single duvets where the drum size genuinely allows it, said plainly at booking
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Bilborough property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 14.
What laundry & ironing costs in Bilborough
Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£2 to £4
Typical cost in Bilborough. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg | £2 to £4 |
| Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead | 5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25 |
| Washed, dried and ironed, per kg | £6.50 to £9 |
| Ironing only, per kg | £5.50 to £9 |
| Ironing, per hour | £14 to £20 |
| Shirt, washed and ironed | £1.50 to £3 |
A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Duvet, single | £14 to £22 |
| Duvet, double | £18 to £27 |
| Duvet, king or super king | £25 to £32 |
| Collection and return, per order | Free to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Is this weekly, or when we need it?
A fixed weekly slot works better and costs less to run, so that is what we offer first. You get the same day and roughly the same time each week, bags out at collection and back the following day, or the day after that in a busy week. Ad hoc collections are possible, but they land where there is room in the round rather than where you would like them, which is fine for a one off and no use for school uniform.
How do we know nothing goes missing?
Everything is counted at collection onto a sheet, the bag is weighed in front of you and the weight and the price are confirmed before anything is washed, and that same sheet comes back in the bag with the count checked off. Sorting by person or by room is done if you tell us how the house works. Anything that turns up in a pocket is bagged separately and handed back rather than binned.
Can you do the duvet and the pillows?
Single and double duvets and ordinary pillows, usually yes, provided the drum genuinely takes them, and we say plainly at booking whether yours qualifies. King and super king duvets, and feather duvets of any size, we do not take at all. A duvet that cannot move in the drum has not been washed, and it comes back wet through the middle, which is worse than not doing it. Those go to a launderette with a machine built for them.
Everything here is on non biological detergent. Does that cost more?
No. Non biological and fragrance free detergent is available on request at no extra cost, and it is worth saying at the start rather than after the first bag comes back. Tell us about skin conditions in the house and about anything that has to be washed separately, and it goes on the account so it applies every week without you raising it again. Care labels are followed as written rather than one temperature for the lot.
Do you cover the whole of Bilborough?
Yes, all of NG8 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does laundry & ironing cost in Bilborough?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Bilborough?
Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Good, with on-street parking and generous road widths, and we group Bilborough with Wollaton, Aspley and Bulwell on the rota.
