Laundry & Ironing for Stapleford homes
Bought here for drying rather than washing: a yard walled on three sides and in shade, a rack in the front room, no floor left for a dryer. Collection then has to work around a street with no drives.
What sends washing out of these houses is drying rather than washing. A terrace yard is walled on three sides and in shade for most of the day, so a line out there is decorative from October onwards, and the fallback is a rack in the front room with the windows shut. There is frequently nowhere to put a tumble dryer either, because the back addition kitchen is already full and the plumbing sits on the only wall that would take one. So the buyers here are households working around that, older residents in the semis who have stopped managing a full wash day, trades who want workwear kept out of the family machine, and a small number of let terraces cycling linen between tenancies.
Stapleford sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The local reference points are the Hemlock Stone, Stapleford town centre and Bramcote Hills Park, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.
What we run into on Stapleford laundry & ironing jobs
Towels tell you how a house dries its washing. Brought in off a radiator or an indoor rack over a whole winter, they arrive stiff, slightly grey and carrying a sour note that the last wash did not put there, because the pile has matted and detergent with body oil has stayed in it through cycle after cycle. That is not a stain and no amount of conditioner touches it. They get sorted away from clothing, washed hot with no conditioner at all, and dried properly, and one pass usually resets them. School uniform polo shirts that have lived on a radiator behave the same way.
How a Stapleford laundry & ironing job actually runs
Collection is the part that needs thinking about on a street with no drives. The van cannot stand outside for long, so what gets agreed is a window rather than a clock time, and both ends of it work better away from the middle of the day. Check which weekday your bins go out on and keep collections off it, because on these rows the containers stand on the pavement outside the front doors and there is no room to hand a bag over, never mind two. Where a household is out at work, most people nominate a neighbour or a relative a few doors down and we deal with them instead. Bags are weighed in front of whoever hands them over and the weight and price are confirmed then, not afterwards. A count sheet goes in the bag and a matching one comes back with it. Weekly slots suit the households doing uniform through term time; lets are better on a counted linen rotation, with enough sets in circulation that a changeover never waits on a wash. Anything we cannot take comes back to you unwashed with a note saying why.
Who books it here
Domestic rounds in the terraces and semis, plus small commercial premises along Derby Road. We group Stapleford visits onto shared days.
We run Stapleford on the same round as Chilwell, Beeston and Bilborough.
What we check on every Stapleford job
Where the ironing goes when it comes back is a real question in a terrace. The standard return is on hangers under a cover, which assumes a hall or a rail to hang it on, and most of these houses open from the front door straight into a room with nowhere to put a covered rail down. So we ask which you want. Folded flat in a lined bag travels better here and does not end up draped over a bannister for two days undoing the press. Beyond that the work is the same wherever it goes: steam on the reverse of anything that takes a shine, a pressing cloth on wool, collars, cuffs and yokes worked one at a time rather than swept through in a pass, and bed linen priced apart from clothing because a double duvet cover is slow and heavy work. Workwear is kept separate from household washing throughout, which is most of the point of sending it out.
What the laundry & ironing covers
A sample of what is included
- Linen, towels and household items: Duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases washed and either pressed or folded flat
- Service wash, charged by weight: Washed at the temperature on the care label, not one temperature for everything
- Ironing: Shirts, blouses, trousers, dresses, school uniform and workwear
- Linen, towels and household items: Towels washed hot and kept separate from clothing
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What laundry & ironing costs in Stapleford
Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£2 to £4
Typical cost in Stapleford. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg | £2 to £4 |
| Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead | 5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25 |
| Washed, dried and ironed, per kg | £6.50 to £9 |
| Ironing only, per kg | £5.50 to £9 |
| Ironing, per hour | £14 to £20 |
| Shirt, washed and ironed | £1.50 to £3 |
A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Duvet, single | £14 to £22 |
| Duvet, double | £18 to £27 |
| Duvet, king or super king | £25 to £32 |
| Collection and return, per order | Free to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Do we have to be in for collection and return?
Somebody does, or you nominate a neighbour, because there are no porches on most of these streets and a bag left on a doorstep is a bag left on a pavement. What we agree is a window rather than a time, since the van cannot sit long outside a terrace with no drive. Handover takes a minute: the bag is weighed in front of you and the count sheet is checked before it leaves.
Will the towels genuinely come back soft?
Usually, though old ones may take two visits. The matting comes from slow indoor drying and from conditioner building up in the fibre, so the fix is a hot wash with none in it and real drying rather than a fabric treatment. If a towel has gone thin as well as stiff, that is worn fibre and washing will not bring it back. We say which is which when we sort rather than after.
Can you do bedding for a let alongside our own washing?
Yes, but they are kept as separate accounts with separate count sheets, and the linen runs on a rotation with sets numbered so you can see what is out. Mixing the two is how a household ends up short of a fitted sheet the morning a tenancy starts. Tell us how many beds and what size, and we will say how many sets need to be in circulation to make it work.
Is anything you will not take?
Dry clean only labels, anything with no label left in it, suits and structured jackets, silk and hand wash knitwear, and items with a broken zip or a tear that a drum will make worse. Heavily soiled workwear carrying oil or solvent is out as well. Those come back to you unwashed rather than being risked, with a note on the count sheet so you know what happened and why.
Do you cover the whole of Stapleford?
Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does laundry & ironing cost in Stapleford?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Stapleford?
Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Town centre parking is limited; the residential streets are fine, and we group Stapleford with Chilwell, Beeston and Bilborough on the rota.
