Laundry & Ironing for Attenborough homes

Two buyers: commuters on the early train who need a handover nobody attends, and long settled households sending out the bed linen and the ironing. What fills the bag is the bulky slow drying items, because a line here is unreliable most of the year.

Two households buy this here and they want different things from it. The commuters are gone on the early train and back after six, so the arrangement stands or falls on a handover neither party attends, and what they send is a full weekly wash. The long settled households in the older houses buy the parts they no longer want to do rather than the whole thing, usually bed linen, towels and a stack of ironing, and they are in when we call. What both send more of than an average household is the bulky slow drying items, because a line in this village is unreliable for a good part of the year and a full set of towels or a double bed set is the one thing a small house cannot dry indoors without the whole place feeling it.

Attenborough sits in NG9, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The local reference points are the nature reserve and its visitor centre, St Mary's church and the railway station, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.

What we run into on Attenborough laundry & ironing jobs

The return is the part that needs designing here rather than the collection. Laundry comes back dry, folded and bagged, and a bag left in an unheated porch, a brick store or a car boot for eight hours in this village does not stay that way, because the air it sits in holds more moisture than the air it was folded in. Ironed shirts on hangers are worse again, since the cover holds it against them. So the return goes inside the house wherever it can be arranged, into a hall or a kitchen rather than onto a step, and where that is impossible we would rather move the drop to an evening slot than leave it standing out.

How an Attenborough laundry & ironing job actually runs

The round here runs on a fixed day in a fixed order, and that is not administrative tidiness, it is the only way a narrow lane works. The van cannot wait, so a collection is a stop of a couple of minutes at an agreed spot, and if the bag is not out we carry on rather than circling back. Bin day is the one to plan around, because a lane with the bins out has perhaps one vehicle width left in it, so those streets move to a different day and you are told which day yours is. Weekends are avoided for the same reason as the rest of our work in the village, which is that the visitor traffic takes the parking. Two practical asks at the start. Give us the count of what is going into the bag, or let us take it at the door, because that sheet is what settles any question later on. And tell us if anything is on a deadline, a uniform needed for Monday or a set of bedding for a guest arriving Friday, so it goes in first rather than being noticed halfway through a sort.

Who books it here

Regular domestic cleaning is the bulk of it, usually fortnightly in households that are out on the early train. Carpet and upholstery work follows the walking seasons rather than the calendar, and exterior window rounds run shorter here than elsewhere because algae and bird lime return faster on glass this close to water.

We run Attenborough on the same round as Chilwell, Beeston and Toton.

What we check on every Attenborough job

Bed linen is where most of the local work sits and it is the item that behaves worst in a domestic machine here. A double duvet cover on its own is close to the drum capacity most households have, so it goes in with a sheet and the pillowcases, comes out twisted into a rope with everything wrapped inside it, and dries unevenly with the middle still cool hours later. Sent out, it is washed on its own at the label temperature, dried through, and either pressed or folded flat, and the difference shows most along the cuff of a duvet cover where the hem holds water longest. Towels are the second one. Washed in too full a drum and dried too gently they smell of nothing on the day and of the cupboard a week later, which is detergent residue and moisture rather than anything dirty. Both come back counted against the sheet they went out on.

What the laundry & ironing covers

A sample of what is included

  • Linen, towels and household items: Pillows and single duvets where the drum size genuinely allows it, said plainly at booking
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Sorted by colour and fabric, so whites, lights, darks and towels run separately
  • Service wash, charged by weight: Folded and bagged by person or by room if you tell us how the house works
  • Ironing: Bed linen and duvet covers, slow work and priced separately from clothes

That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.

What laundry & ironing costs in Attenborough

Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.

£2 to £4

Typical cost in Attenborough. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.

PropertyTypical cost
Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg£2 to £4
Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25
Washed, dried and ironed, per kg£6.50 to £9
Ironing only, per kg£5.50 to £9
Ironing, per hour£14 to £20
Shirt, washed and ironed£1.50 to £3

A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.

Priced separately

ExtraTypical cost
Duvet, single£14 to £22
Duvet, double£18 to £27
Duvet, king or super king£25 to £32
Collection and return, per orderFree to £5

These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

Questions

Laundry & Ironingin Attenborough

Ring us on 07438 843980, or see the full service page.

Nobody is home when you call. How does the handover work?

By agreeing one spot and one arrangement that does not change week to week. A key safe, a porch we can get inside, or a neighbour happy to take it in are the three that work. A doorstep is the one that does not, because a bag of clean laundry left out is at the mercy of the weather and whoever walks past. Tell us which end of the lane the van can stop at, since that decides the time as much as anything else.

Can you take walking gear and waterproofs?

Not on a service wash, and that is not us being awkward. A waterproof shell needs a technical wash and a reproofing treatment rather than detergent, and ordinary detergent left in the fabric is exactly what stops it beading afterwards. Down filled jackets need a drum and a dryer no household has. Base layers, fleeces and ordinary outdoor trousers are fine and go in with everything else. Name anything technical at collection and it comes straight back to you rather than being guessed at.

How many sets of bedding do we need if it all goes out?

Enough that one set is always in circulation, which for most households means two per bed and a third for anything a guest uses. That is the change that makes the arrangement work rather than the turnaround time, because the bed gets made the moment it is stripped and nothing waits on us. For a short let near the reserve the number goes up again, since a changeover and a full wash cannot share a day without one of the two being rushed.

Can you take dog bedding and the towels the dog uses?

Yes, named at collection and bagged separately, because it runs as its own load rather than with clothing and it wants a hot wash. Say if there is heavy hair on it, since that gets brushed off dry first: hair that goes into a machine wet mats into the seams and comes back out on everything else in the drum. What we will not take is anything with a waterproof backing that has started to break up, because it sheds inside the machine.

Do you cover the whole of Attenborough?

Yes, all of NG9 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.

How much does laundry & ironing cost in Attenborough?

The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.

How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Attenborough?

Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Lanes here are narrow and the reserve car park fills at weekends, so visits are booked for the morning, and we group Attenborough with Chilwell, Beeston and Toton on the rota.
