Laundry & Ironing for Eastwood homes
The town empties every morning, so the awkward part is not the washing, it is the doorstep. A front door opens straight onto a public pavement, there is no porch to leave a bag in, and bin day fills the street.
The people who buy this here are not in when the van is. This is a commuting town, out early and back after five, and the two things that go out most are workwear on a shift pattern and school uniform, both needed back on a fixed day rather than eventually. That makes the round the product rather than the wash. A collection has to work with nobody home, which on a terrace means an agreed spot instead of a doorstep, because a front door here opens onto a public pavement with no porch, no side gate and nowhere a bag can sit for eight hours without being in everybody's way. The let properties are a different order of thing entirely: fewer of them, and what they send is bed linen and towels rather than clothes.
Eastwood sits in NG16, under Broxtowe Borough Council. The local reference points are the D. H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum on Victoria Street, Nottingham Road and Eastwood Hall, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.
What we run into on Eastwood laundry & ironing jobs
You can usually tell what a bag came from before opening it, and the one that causes trouble is the let. A household bag is light and mixed: shirts, a school set, sports kit, something that needs pointing out. A bag off a short let property is nearly all towels and bed linen, weighs three times as much, and a good part of it went in straight off a rail an hour after somebody showered rather than dry. Sealed in polythene for a day, damp towelling goes sour, and that smell survives an ordinary wash, so the load runs hot and occasionally twice. A mesh bag or an open crate for anything already damp costs nothing and removes the problem.
How an Eastwood laundry & ironing job actually runs
The round here gets built around two things the washing has nothing to do with. The first is the bin pattern. On a terrace with no side access the bins live at the front, and on collection day the length of the street is taken up with them before the lorry comes and taken up with them again afterwards until people get home, so a laundry slot on that day is the worst one available and we would sooner move it than fight it. Tell us which day yours is at the start. The second is what happens at the far end of the visit. Ironing returned on hangers needs somewhere to hang, and in a house with no hall to speak of that is usually the top of a door or the stair rail, neither of which is anywhere for clean clothing to sit for eight hours. So we ask where things are meant to go before the first collection, and where there is genuinely nowhere sensible we return that part folded instead and say so, rather than leaving a covered rail hooked over a door that somebody then opens.
Who books it here
Regular fortnightly visits are most of the round, in households that leave town every morning for work elsewhere. Tenancy end work follows the terraces, which change hands often and re-let quickly. Deep cleans are booked either side of a sale or a refit, and the nightly lets add changeovers spread across the year rather than piled into August.
We run Eastwood on the same round as Kimberley, Nuthall and Hucknall.
What we check on every Eastwood job
There is a smell that turns up on a first collection here often enough to be worth naming, and it is not dirt. Cotton dried slowly indoors, on an airer in a cold front room or over a radiator that goes off at nine, stays damp in the folds for hours longer than it looks, and what grows in that time is mildew. It is faint while the item is dry and it comes back strongly the moment the fabric is warm and wet again, which is why a towel smells fine in the cupboard and sour thirty seconds into a shower. Washing it again at the usual temperature does very little about it. It needs a hot wash with the right chemistry and then a proper dry, and the second half of that is what a house like this cannot supply in February. It is the most common single reason a household here starts sending laundry out.
What the laundry & ironing covers
A sample of what is included
- Ironing: Returned on hangers under a cover, or folded flat, whichever you ask for
- Linen, towels and household items: Towels washed hot and kept separate from clothing
- Linen, towels and household items: Workwear kept apart from household washing, which is the whole point of sending it out
- Service wash, charged by weight: Non-bio and fragrance-free detergent on request, at no extra cost
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full laundry & ironing page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What laundry & ironing costs in Eastwood
Typical UK rates. Washing is priced by weight, ironing by item or by hour, duvets individually. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
£2 to £4
Typical cost in Eastwood. A written fixed price for your property takes about a minute: ask for one.
| Property | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Service wash, washed, dried and folded, per kg | £2 to £4 |
| Minimum load, or a minimum charge instead | 5 to 8kg, or £15 to £25 |
| Washed, dried and ironed, per kg | £6.50 to £9 |
| Ironing only, per kg | £5.50 to £9 |
| Ironing, per hour | £14 to £20 |
| Shirt, washed and ironed | £1.50 to £3 |
A 6kg bag works out at £12 to £24 on the per kg rate but is usually billed at the £15 to £25 minimum, so that is the realistic floor for a single load. Ironing is the expensive half: washed, dried and ironed runs £6.50 to £9 per kg against £2 to £4 for washing alone, which is why sending shirts priced by the item often works out cheaper than sending a whole bag ironed.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Duvet, single | £14 to £22 |
| Duvet, double | £18 to £27 |
| Duvet, king or super king | £25 to £32 |
| Collection and return, per order | Free to £5 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
Nobody is home during the day. How does a collection actually happen?
On an agreed spot rather than a doorstep, worth settling before the first week rather than during it. A key safe works, a porch where there is one, an outbuilding in the yard if we can reach it, and a neighbour who is in is best of all. What does not work is a bag on a front step opening onto a public pavement, which is also why we will not leave a return there. Fixed day, fixed spot, count sheet in the bag.
If we are not there at either end, how do we know nothing has gone missing?
Because it is counted twice and you hold a copy of both. Items go onto a sheet at collection, with anything already stained, holed or missing a button written down there and then, and the same sheet is counted back at return with a copy left in the bag. If something is wrong it is traceable to a load and a date rather than to somebody's memory. Ask any laundry service how they handle that before you hand over a bag.
Can you take a duvet?
A single or a pillow sometimes, depending on the filling and whether it moves freely in the drum. A double, a king or anything feather goes to a launderette with a machine big enough for it, and we say so rather than take the money. It matters more here than elsewhere, because a duvet that comes back heavy with water has nowhere to finish: no warm cupboard to air it, and nowhere to hang something that size indoors without putting all that water back into the house.
Can work clothes be kept separate from everything else?
Yes, and it is the main reason work clothes get sent out at all. Workwear washed with household clothing puts whatever is on it into everything else in the drum, and a lot of the work people travel out to does not leave clothing clean. It runs as its own load, hot, and comes back separate. What we will not take is anything carrying oil, solvent, paint or biological contamination, which needs a specialist launderer. Tell us what the work is and we will say which side it falls.
Do you cover the whole of Eastwood?
Yes, all of NG16 and the surrounding streets, under Broxtowe Borough Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does laundry & ironing cost in Eastwood?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the weight rather than the item count, whether ironing is included or just washing, and how often we collect. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start laundry & ironing in Eastwood?
Within a few days to set up a collection day, and after that it runs to the same day each week. Streets off the main road are narrow and parked both sides, and there is nowhere to stop on the road itself, so we park off it and walk in, and we group Eastwood with Kimberley, Nuthall and Hucknall on the rota.
